The list of things Sonia Kashuk’s new Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balms have going for ’em reads like a laundry list of travel makeup awesomeness.
- Sleek presentation
- They’re pretty affordable at $8.99 each
- They come in four sheer, universally flattering shades — Hint of Coral, Hint of Pink, Hint of Red and Hint of Berry
- The lightweight formula
- They’re unburdened by scents or flavors
- SPF 15
- Infused with açaà oil, essential fatty acids, cherry extract for antioxidant protection and safflower seed oil to nourish lips
I always worry about losing my (luggage, mind) makeup bag when I travel, and Sonia regularly releases such great stuff at good prices that I figured I’d bring one of these along with me on my next trip.
Except there’s one problem with that…
Moisture!
I didn’t find much.
After hopping between Hint of Coral and Hint of Pink since Monday of this week, my lips are drier than the Sahara! Flaky and just so, so dry.
Hmm… I think I’ll stick to Burt’s Bees faboo $7 Tinted Lip Balms as my travel balms o’ choice. For now at least. 🙂
PRICE: $8.99
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Target stores and target.com

“So here I go again on my own…! Going down the only road I’ve ever known!! Like a tabby I was born to walk alone…”
Guess who woke up singing Whitesnake this morning.
That hair!!
It’s ’cause I watched The Fighter with Christian Bale and Marky Mark on TV last night.
Gotta love rooting for underdogs, am I right? That grand finale when the protagonist comes from behind to beat the odds (BOOM POW!), embracing the thrill of victory and avoiding the agony of defeat (after experiencing the agony of defeat at least once earlier in the film, of course).
It makes me want to do some push-ups or something. I don’t know, kick some @ss, haha!
I was not very athletic growing up, but I wish I’d been. I was tiny and shy. Did you (or do you now?) play any sports or do any athletic things?
I run on my treadmill…but I don’t think that counts (and it’s more for my mental health).
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Have a great hump day.
Kiss & Make-up says
Aw, too bad these are a little disappointing.
Karen says
I know, bummer!
Agata says
It is disappointing they are not moisturizing. But..your hair looks beautiful (as always) and what blush are you wearing? It looks beautiful! Happy Wednesday. It is happy for me because it’s my day off 🙂
Karen says
Hi Agata,
Let’s see… on my cheeks I’m also wearing Sonia Kashuk! It’s her Chic Luminosity Blush/Bronze Duo in Glisten.
Hope you’re enjoying your day off. Are you doing any “me time” things?
Agata says
I’m going to Target and Ulta with a friend in a bit and then to a Zumba class.
Lorraine says
Too bad! I am really interested in trying the Sonia Kashuk lipsticks that Vampy Varnish reviewed. SPF 16 in those and nice colors, too. Have you tried those?
Karen says
I haven’t tried ’em yet. They look pretty cool though.
Trisha says
Now I totally have that song stuck in my head. I love 80s metal power ballads. Happy times!
Also, what a total bummer about the lack of moisture in those balms. Disappointment! Especially since they look so darn cute in the packaging.
Karen says
I’ve been listening to that song all morning. 🙂
Sunny says
Oh noes!!! Such a horrible flaw for a tinted lip balm to dry your lips out instead. No good!
Karen says
I know, gimme moisture!
Sofie - Little Makeup Face says
Love the Hint of Coral, but my lips are already kinda dry so that sucks. By the way your hair is looking gorgeous! I’m so jelly! lol
Karen says
Hi Sofie,
You should try the Clarins Light Natural Lip Perfectors. I have very dry lips and these are amazing for moisture.
Jennifer says
Oh no! A balm that dries? Not good!
Karen says
Gimme moisture!
Danielle says
Too bad these weren’t that great. Hint of Coral looks really nice.
Karen says
I know. I wanted to love them.

I couldn’t get passed the scent of mine! It smelled *exactly* like new carpet. And the scent took forever to go away. Did yours not have that problem? So far, I’m rather bummed out about the SK spring line. I didn’t have much luck with the new lipsticks either 🙁
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
really?? Aw that sucks, I was so super excited about these too. I will probably still get them to be honest because they’re just so pretty but my lips are pretty dry too and I will probably end up disappointed like you :/
Vanessa says
Karen I was really disappointed with the lack of moisture with these too. I read another blogger’s review and she simply raved about how moisturizing the SK lip balms were – so much so she bought almost all of the colors. So I purchased one with the notion that it would sooth my parched winter lips. Not only did they not moisturize my lips they actually made them feel dry. 🙁 I have never had that happen with any lip balm type product before.
Chelsea says
Sucks that these don’t live up to the name!
I love that Whitesnake song. I had a car with a cassette deck until fairly recently (had belonged to my gramps, who had it retro-fitted with a cassette deck in 2002 instead of a CD player… why??) and I had a Whitesnake cassette, because it was one of the better options at the thrift store. I also had Dio and the sound track to Dirty Dancing.
TrippyPixie says
Too bad that they’re so dry. My lips are already dry, so I don’t want to make it worse! Thank goodness for Medicated Chapstick…
As for working out, I’ve been German folk dancing (polkas and waltzes) with my German cultural group for almost 17 years. Oddly enough, I can’t do any other sport since I’m a really big klutz! (It seems like the only time I’m coordinated is when I dance. Funny how that worked out.)
Laura T. says
I was at Target and thought about grabbing a couple of these. Glad I didn’t! I LOVE 80’s glam rock. Waking up singing Whitesnake sounds like a pretty good morning. 🙂
Jacque says
Oh no! Sorry to hear they were so drying for you. I picked up the hint of berry one and really like it. No problems with it drying out my lips at all. I actually like these better than the new SK shine luxe lipsticks.
