Lately, I’ve been super obsessed with the idea of the South of France and the Cannes Film Festival taking place there next month. Plus, you know how much I like surfing, and apparently, Cannes has some really great surf spots, too. Who knew?
Chanel’s new Soleil Tan de Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder in Bronze Rose ($50) is fueling this obsession. It launched a couple weeks ago with the new Chanel Les Fleurs D’Ete Summer Collection.
Doesn’t it make your heart flutter? It’s like summer in a pan, ah…
If it seems like you’ve seen this film before, you have a good eye, my friend. A similar four-color powder bronzer premiered with Chanel’s Cote D’Azur Summer Collection back in 2009, except that story starred four shimmery golden browns instead of a shimmery pinkish gold; a peachy pink; a warm, golden orangey brown; and a light baby pink.
I think these colors look lovely either apart or swirled together in the pan and worn as a blush (what I’ve been doing). On my skin, the resulting peachy pink has a touch of golden orangey brown — like a toned down, slightly pinker version of NARS Orgasm mixed with a really warm, shimmery bronzer.
Bronze Rose shades separately (first four swatches from left to the right) and swirled together (far right)
Like a movie that has to be watched more than once to be fully appreciated, I have to layer this to get it to show up well on my skin. Four layers, in fact. So if you’re around my shade or darker, be prepared to layer, young lady, especially if you like brighter cheek looks. It might not be an issue for lighter lovelies, or for gals who just want a light cheek flush.
Chanel bills this as moisturizing, but my dry cheeks and I haven’t noticed a big surge in moisture. That said, I wasn’t really expecting much moisture from a powder product.
For $50, it’s no bargain matinee, but the price is typical of the brand. Coupled with the need to use so much of it, though, it could discourage all but the heartiest Chanel die-hard fans.
As an everyday blush/bronzer, if you’re willing to splurge, you’ll be getting a color well equipped to work with lots of different looks.
PRICE: $50
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Chanel counters and also online

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Happy hump day! 🙂
Meha says
i think smashbox highlighter in prism and nars laguna bronzer works just as good if not best for me! but this looks delicious too.
Karen says
Almost good enough to eat, LOL!
Antonia at Swedish Love Affair says
It IS summer in a pan! it looks great and I’m totally getting it as soon as I see it!
Karen says
Yay, Antonia! 😀
Michelle says
I have this and absolutely love it! My fave product of the season for sure. I am probably about an NW20-25 and it shows up great with just a swipe or two with the skunk brush. Maybe the Bronze Corail (sp?) works better for someone looking for more pigmentation? Both look great on you 🙂
Karen says
I’m thinking I’ll have to give that one a go too. 🙂
Michelle says
Bronze Rose goes great with the new Coco Shines also (I’ve heard the same about the Coral one also). I bought Chance and a peachy one (the name is escaping me right now). I really want Romance and Aventure next. Your blog introduced me to Chanel . . . and well, you would laugh if you saw all of the Chanel I have acquired in the past year or so 😉
gio says
It looks gorgeous, I love it! I have fair skin so I think it may show up well on me.
Karen says
This would look great on you!
Alison says
I keep telling myself I don’t need it since I have the one from a couple of years back, but the pinkier tones keep making me want it! Such a dilemma!
Alison says
Karen,
I forgot to ask, did you ever get the Coco Mademoiselle Velvet Body Oil?
I just used it all over after my bath and it is heavenly! Each time I use it my SO comments on how soft my skin is!
Karen says
Hi Alison,
Funny you should mention it, but I’ve got a couple of items in my Chanel shopping cart right now and the Velvet Body Oil is one of them. 🙂 Have you ever tried the Coco Mademoiselle Soap? I hear it’s really nice, too.
Karen says
Hmm, if you love the one from a few years back, you could probably get same effect by popping a little bit of pink blush on top.
Alison says
I do pop a little bit of Joues Contraste in Narcisse on top actually! I am very pale and feel I need a little pink to stop bronzer looking too odd with my skintone.
I have the Coco Mademoiselle Soap, my Mum bought it for me for Christmas. It has tiny shimmer particles in it and smells divine. However, since I use the Shower gel I haven’t used the soap yet. I have popped it in my underwear drawer to scent everything!
I’ll look forward to your reviews on other items from this lovely Chanel collection!
Jessi says
These always remind me of that Guerlain blush from a couple seasons ago. I’m still kicking myself for not picking that one up! It looks pretty nice for four layers; not cakey looking at all.
Karen says
You should try it! I bet it would look pretty on you.
Radhika says
The Chanel SA told me it won’t show up that great …or at all…on my darker skin. I bought In Love instead 😀
Karen says
How are you liking In Love? That’s one of my faves.
Trisha says
Your skin is totally glowing in that picture, Karen! I want to glow like you. 😉
Karen says
Hi Trisha,
You can easily do it! All you need is bronzer and some illuminating moisturizer and you’re good to go!
Tiffany says
This looks so pretty! But I just can’t handle the price!
Karen says
I know, it’s so painful!
Olga says
such a great bronzer I’m looking forward to get my hands on this one!!
Karen says
Do you plan on picking up anything else from the collection, Olga?
Kim says
Oh, it’s lovely! It sort of reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream (with an extra layer… and no white). I guess it’s just the stripes and the summer. 🙂 South of France, south of Italy. Beautiful, either way.
Karen says
Ha! I actually thought of the same exact thing (I used to love neopolitan ice cream bars when I was a kid).
Kim says
I hear you – I was a freak for Spumoni. I’m not a big ice cream eater but I still have a special place in my heart for pistachio, vanilla and cherry. 🙂
Karen says
I had a summer when I was obsessed with Spumoni! I ate it everyday until I got sick of it.
Pistachio is my JAM btw. Have you ever had the pistachio ice cream from Baskin Robbins? It’s THE BEST!
Kim says
No, I haven’t (we live in Ben & Jerry’s land) but I definitely like the B&Js. I used to get Cherry Garcia, too – and pick out the chocolate chunks because “they ruined the cherry”. Summer will eventually get here and I’ll definitely be picking up a pint or two! 🙂
Nina says
it look so gorgeous on you! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Thanks! 🙂 It’s a little more subtle than I’d like but I still dig it.
So, did you end up getting anything beauty related for your birthday?
Nina says
i did!
from my co worker, a Bare Escentuals gift card, from my co worker’s wife (who part times w/ us), a travel brush set.
im waiting on a Sephora gift card from the hubs – he says he hasnt quite mustered up enough courage to go in. :d
and from me – i got prep & prime vibrancy eye, pro longwear concealer, a couple of matte eyeshadows and a new 109 brush (my sister swiped my old one).
i think i did good makeup loot wise. 😀
ps – i <3 pro longwear concealer a lot!
Becca says
This is beautiful and I’m about the same skintone as you, so I’m inspired to take my Nars Laguna and Nars Mata Hari to get a similar effect 😀
Karen says
That’s a great idea, Becca. I bet that’s a beautiful combo!
Maya says
It look so amazing on you and also in the pan. But now that you mention all the layering I cant decide wether I want to spend that much on it or not. I will go to the Chanel counter and try it and then decide. I really like it that you post pictures of you wearing it so we can compare it better. Thanx for a great post. And blog 🙂
dani@callitbeauty says
that is one gorgeous product! the darkest strip frightens me a bit, i admit, but all swirled together, it looks really pretty.
Beatrice says
I don’t know if this is worth the money. The colors don’t seem really unique and I hate having to scrape product out of the pan >< But I have to say it looks great on you! It gives your cheeks a beautiful glow 🙂
Aracely says
I love this bronzer but I am always fearful of bronzers in general because I am worried it won’t look like a bronzer but dirt on my face lol
Ariel says
This would be awesome for my light skin tone, however I recently bought a Korres bronzer and I don’t need another right now. Pretty though!
Lucie says
I was going to get this, but ended up buying the Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer powder bronzer instead. Though Chanel’s powder looks very pretty, I’m content with my decision-the Guerlain one is truly the most heavenly bronzer I have ever tried. Absolute perfection in a compact. I highly reccomend it if you’ve got some major cash to splash out!
Vijaya says
This looks yummy. =]
Agata says
I have Chanel Bronze Corail (gift from my husband) and looks absolutely perfect on me , now I`m thinkink about Dior Nude Glow bronzer Aurora ….wow never enough beauty stuff
nawi says
Does anyone have both the Chanel bronzer and the Dior aurora bronzer? I bought the dior bronzer and I love it. Chanel had not arrived here yet but this looks beautiful are they very similiar or different? Is it worth buying both?
G says
I thought this one was more for cooler skin tones – I got the Corail – haven’t tried it – will pick up with all the other stash from SAKS F & Family sale.
Did you try the Corail – I had the makeup artist put both on me & guess I’m warmer & like to wear alot of bright lipsticks so they recommended the Corail
luv2smilexo says
too much pink for me but still seriously lovely!
patty says

This almost looks like Neopolitan ice cream, good enough to eat ! I still haven’t found this in Italy or the Dior Aurora. Funny you should should write about the South of France, I just came back from there, saw some surfers in Cannes and in Antibes but never thought it’s a place for surfing.
Phyrra says
Those are really lovely colors!
