Like many makeup junkies, my lip gloss habit borders on “scary obsession.” It’s at the point where El Hub doesn’t even notice mention the tubes of stuff all over the house, in the car and sometimes in his jacket pockets, LOL!
Note: Ladies, when you find a dude who’ll carry lip gloss for you in his pockets without complaint, you should put a ring on that, fo’ reals!
But, I digress…
Lately I’ve been wearing a new lip gloss that just might be one of the coolest things since sliced queso — Smashbox Limitless Long Wear Lip Gloss SPF 15 ($21).
I swatched the six colors a while back but only recently took the new shades out for a spin.
So far I’ve worn…
- Boundless: a shimmery golden coral with a hint of pink
- Nonstop: a shimmery hot pink
- Endless: a shimmery, sheer plum
I think they’re kinda awesome!
As far as durability, Limitless *almost* lives up to its name. Smashbox says they last six hours on the lips; I say that’s being a little generous, but still.
I was able to stretch wear time out to six hours when I sipped drinks through a straw, refrained from snacking (mmm… Oreo cookies and milk…) and avoided rubbing my lips together; otherwise, wear time was more like four hours.
No big deal, though. In my book the addition of SPF 15 makes up the difference.
Kudos to Smashbox for varying the amount of pigmentation between the colors. What a nice touch! They’re all super-shiny, but some of them apply sheer (like Endless), while others (like Nonstop and Boundless) apply with medium coverage.
They’re taste- and fragrance-free, with a texture that feels slightly slick and hydrating on my lips. Picture a slightly thinner, non-sticky version of MAC Lipglass and you’ll get the idea.
Not to take anything away from my beloved MAC Lipglasses, but I plan to keep these around for those times when I’m not in the mood to deal with something sticky.
I REALLY wish Smashbox had priced these lower (they cost $7 more than Lipglass), but methinks Smashbox is assuming the wear time means customers won’t have to replace them very often.
At least the tubes are fairly big, so they don’t feel like a ripoff.
Limitless Long Wear sports an long, angled doe foot applicator.
Imma keep my fingers crossed that Smashbox rolls them out in more colors soon (and decides to drop the price, too — hint hint).
Smashbox Limitless Long Wearing Lip Gloss SPF 15
Price: $21 for a .1-fl. oz tube
Use: A pricey but long-lasting, non-sticky gloss with added sun protection
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+
You might like Smashbox Limitless Long Wearing Lip Gloss SPF 15 if…
- …you don’t like having to reapply gloss every 30 minutes,
- …you don’t like flavored or heavily scented lip glosses,
- …you’re looking for a gloss with SPF and sheer-to-medium pigmentation.
Something old, something new…
I’ve been on the prowl for something new to read, ideally some good ole’ fashioned chick lit, so I spent some time cruising Amazon.com.
Have you read Something Borrowed, by Emily Giffin? It has some great reviews…
What’s the best fiction book you’ve read lately? I could use some suggestions.
My brain needs some candy. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I just put a request in at the library for the newest Sookie Stackhouse book (Southern Vampire series) by Charlaine Harris! If you haven’t read those, I highly recommend them! Then you can check out True Blood, the HBO series based on the books (and my current not-so-guilty pleasure viewing)!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
SO the first season is FINALLY out on DVD! I can watch it, hooray!
I feel like the only person on earth without HBO.
shontay says
I spotted these in sephora today. Nonstop caught my eye, but I hate the applicator with a passion, so I passed. Plus, I have never been satisfied with smashbox products. They are pretty, though.
Karen says
Hi Shontay,
I was at first a little skeptical about the applicator, but after using it a few times I ended up liking it. The pointy end gets into the outer corners of the lips real easy, plus the extra long paddle covers a lot of space.
Did you pick up anything when you were at Sephora?
Amanda says
thanks for the pics! I’ve been thinking of trying these-I have ulta points to redeem (I really want the stila summer collection but it is still not in my store, grrrr). anywho-I have eyed these a couple of times, I just couldn’t decide on color.
As for good ole chick lit, I haven’t read that particular Emily Giffin book but I did read Love the on you’re with. It was OK. Have you read the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris? They are total brain candy, and sooo addicting. If you liked Twighlight you might like these. There are nine books out already, with a 10th on the way. (I’m only on #5). Another cute, light series I’ve been enjoying this summer is The Secret Society Girl books by Diana Peterfreund. And there is one more (I’m all about the series’ this spring/summer!!!)-Enchanted, Inc by Shanna
Swendson is the first book (of four). super cute and fun.
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
I like series so I will look into all of those. I haven’t heard of The Secret Society Girl books… it sounds like I will probably like ’em, though.
Gah! Your store needs to get the Stila summer collection already! What are you gonna get? The palette?
Vampy Varnish says
Those look really nice and shiny and I definitely have my days when I am over the stickiness of Lipglass!
If you are looking for a fabulous book to read that’s creepy but you CANNOT put down, try Tana French’s Into the Woods. It’s excellent! She’s got new one out called The Likeness that’s on my “to read” list.
.-= Vampy Varnish’s last blog post… Illamasqua Nail Polish AND giveaway!! =-.
Karen says
Hi Vampy Varnish,
That’s the second recommendation for that book. Okay, now it’s on the list!
Mariah says
Man, these are gorgeous! But yeah, I agree, Smashbox tempts us by putting out pretties and then WAYYYY overcharging for them. Hmm. :/
Karen says
Hi Mariah,
Yah, if only the glosses were priced the same as MAC ones! Sigh… Do you think you might get any?
CC says
I like Nonstop the best! Have you heard about Mercury in Retrograde? It’s a new book that was written by a NY gossip columnist. I haven’t read it yet, but the author came on the Today show to promote it. It sounds juicy – it combines real life bold names with fiction, plus it’s supposedly kinda like Sex and the City. That last part is a lot to live up to, but I’m going to give it a go anyway!
Karen says
Hi CC,
I haven’t heard about it but I will see if I can find it at the bookstore. Let me know what you think of it when you finish it. 🙂
Kristin says
Emily Giffin is a good author. I liked all of her books. Other chick lit authors that I like are: Marian Keyes, Jennifer Weiner, Jane Green, and Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
Karen says
Hi Kristin,
Thank you for these recs — I will look these authors up!
Hyzenthlay says
I’ve read Something Borrowed by Emily Giffen . . . it’s like her others, so if you have read and enjoyed Something Blue, Baby Proof, or the other book, then you’ll enjoy Something Borrowed. It’s easy read chick lit.
Into the Woods by Tana French is amazing. Not an “easy read chick lit” book, but wonderful 🙂 I am looking forward to getting The Likeness from my parents after they have read it.
Karen says
Hi Hyzenthlay,
I rarely read chic lit, but I do enjoy it every once in awhile. I will look into Into the Woods. 🙂
Laurie says
Pretty – I’m a lip gloss ho too:) I like the bright pink on you – would love to see it with a FOTD!
Also, I highly recommend Emily Giffin’s books. They’re all awesome – and I love Something Borrowed and the sequel Something Blue.
Karen says
Hi Laurie,
LOL, cheers to all the members of the lip gloss ho club!
I will try to do a FOTD with the hot pink soon… my eye has got to calm down some day.
Okay, it looks like I will have to order that book from Amazon! And there’s a sequel too — yes!
redhead says
So B. It by Sarah Weeks is a great book about a daughter’s journey to solve her mental mother’s past. It’s SO good..
Nonstop looks great on you!
Kate & Zena says
I really have been enjoying the Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray (I’m on the last novel at the moment). The order is A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels and The Sweet Far Thing. It’s set at the end of the Victorian Era (1895) and is so addicting. I couldn’t put the first book down! Other great reads I always go back to are His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife & The Amber Spyglass), Philippa Gregory’s The Other Boleyn Girl, Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones (movie comes out December 2009! Yay!), Ian McEwan’s Atonement and Gregory Maguire’s Wicked.
“Classics” that I love are Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte), Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte), The Count of Monte Cristo (author escapes me at the moment), Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw (the play and movie My Fair Lady are almost word-for-word versions of the play in book form), The Color Purple by Alice Walker and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
If you’ve all ready read all those, I’ll be really surprised as I’ve never met someone who’s read all of them like I have. I read constantly. I read, read, read, read, read.
Miss QQ says
Hi Karen. These glosses look lovely, especially Nonstop. They are pricy, but not as costly as Chanel’s glossimiers. There is no Smashbox counter in my country though but some day, I’ll get to try them. 😉
Alli says
I just recently read Angels & Demons and it was very good. I also have been reading the Sookie Stackhouse series. They’re so fun and easy. Perfect summer reading!
.-= Alli’s last blog post… WTF? =-.
shontay says
No, I didn’t buy anything at sephora karen. That’s a shocking statement for me. I went there specially for the new makeup forever hd elixer. I’m hearing awesome things about it, but sephora didn’t have it. I was so discouraged I just left after playing with some of the mufe shadows and aqua lip liner. Those liners are smashing, by the way.
shontay says
Oh, and I might give Nonstop a try. I’m really craving more gloss even though my faves (chanel and mac) don’t have anything I’m lemming for.
Ruth says
I’ll have to buy Nonstop as soon as I see it out in my Sephora !
Meredith says
Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger is hilarious. It’s a really good beach read 🙂

Kewal says
Hi Karen,
Nice colours but we don’t have Smashbox in Singapore boo hoo…
Now on my other pet subject – BOOKS! These are some of my recent faves but they are not chick lits:
1 – Kite Runner – Khaleed Hosseini
2 – A Thousand Splendid Suns – Khaleed Hosseini
3 – Down River – John Hart
4 – World Without End – Ken Follett
Karen B says
Looks great. Also the fact that it’s Smashbox so that I can just buy it here in my hometown at a reasonable price (if compared to chanel, etc.) is a big plus. 🙂
Meream says
Very sweet of your husband. 😀 Try Light on Snow by Anita Shreve.
Beth says
The House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. It’s a vampire series and a super easy read!
Love the glosses!
Glosslizard says
You’re not alone, I only started watching because it’s on DVD now, I don’t have HBO either!
If you’ve already read the Southern Vamp series, I also highly recommend the Kitty Norville books by Patricia Briggs, it starts with Kitty and the Midnight Hour. Kitty is a werewolf and a late-night dj!
Tiffany says
Oooh, I want boundless! I need a long-wearing gloss!
Something borrowed and something blue are both really good books. I think they are better than a lot of chick lit books because you end up really liking the characters! Baby proof is a cute book as well.
Rachel says
Oooh, I realllly like Nonstop.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
That one is getting a lot of love! I will try to put up a fotd with it soon…
Amy says
Have to agree with the House of Night Series. It is super quick and addicting. Love triangles…vampires…what’s not to like? I am glad you posed this question. I am totally gonna check out some of the other recommendations. I just thought I’d throw it out there…the Twilight series? Have you read that one yet…it is soooo much better than the movie. (Although I liked the movie very much.)
Karen says
Hi Amy,
I LOVED that series. I tore through the first book in like a day. 🙂
Have you read The Host by Stephanie Meyer? It’s another good one.
I will have to check out the House of Night. I do love super quick, addictive reads!
Amy says
You know, I also really liked Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. She has a new one out that I haven’t read yet called Ink Exchange that I hope to read soon.

“Something Borrowed” is a very good book – I actually reviewed it for the publishing company. Dive in, if you’re alright with being up all night until you hit the back cover! It’s a page-turner.
I’m a first-time reader who happened to stumble upon your blog (the DMV entry pulled me in; I’m headed there tomorrow!). Sound advice and proper product knowledge – kudos! Oh, and…
Read the book. You’ll be glad you did. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Daniella,
I ended up picking up the book and really enjoyed it. You’re so right — it’s totally a page turning. I tore through it pretty quickly!
Good luck with your DMV picture tomorrow. I hope it turns out great. 🙂
