Yippee! Let’s hear it for sleep deprivation! I stayed up late again reading Breaking Dawn. Now I’m a little bleary eyed and loopy. In my altered state I realized a few things:
- Did you know there’s a difference between the words “ya’ll” and “y’all”?
- I Must. Have. More. Coffee. When I’m tired my coffee consumption increases, which consequently makes me even more tired when the caffeine wears off. Shoot!
- Shimmery pastel eye shadow colors aren’t a substitute for a good night’s sleep, but light shades of purple, green, pink and beige shimmer eye shadows do help to conceal tired eyes. Huzzah!
My eye look of choice for the past few days has been a light purple and beige eye with a touch of green. I’ve been using the three pastel shades in Bobbi Brown’s new Metallic Eye Shadow collection ($20).
A Look for Tired Eyes
Bobbi Brown’s Pastel Metallic Eye Shadows
The three pastel colors from Bobbi’s Metallic Collection make it easy to fake a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed look.
- Mint – light green shimmer
- Lavender – light purple shimmer
- Navajo – beige shimmer
All three colors are highly pigmented with excellent color payoff. They’re also easy to blend and apply, lasting all day long with nary a crease.
If pastels aren’t your thang, Bobbi’s got ya covered. The collection also includes darker and neutral shades…
How to Get the Look
The three pastel shades make this look light and fresh. I focussed all three on the top lid to draw attention away from my dark circles and to enlarge my eyes.
To start, I primed my lids with a thin layer of Too Faced Shadow Insurance over the entire eye.
To increase the intensity of the green and purple metallic eye shadow shades I brushed a single layer of Benefit’s Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit on the lid and around the crease area with a MAC 239 brush.
Next, with Sonia Kashuk’s Large Eye Shadow Brush, I applied Lavender to the outer two-thirds of the lid and just barely into the crease. Light, shimmery shades applied to the inner corners of the eyes help to widen them, making them look open and awake, so, with the same brush, I added Mint to the inner third of the eye.
With a MAC 217 blending brush, I blended the purple into the green, graduating the color from one shade to the other.
I wanted a subtle brow bone to contrast with the purple and green on the lid, so I lightly dusted it with Navajo and a MAC 217.
To really keep the emphasis away from those dark purple marks under my eyes, I lined the top lid (only the top) with two types of liner: I lined the upper water line with Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof liner in Noir, and then added a thick line of MAC Fluidline gel liner in Blacktrack for even more definition.
I finished with two coats of Exceptionnel de Chanel mascara.
I think I almost look well rested!
That’s MAC Shy Beauty blush on the cheeks and Bobbi Brown Pretty Pink lipstick topped with Chanel Glossimer lipgloss in Constellation.
That’s it! Almost as good as a full night’s sleep. Well … kinda. 🙂
How’s your day coming along?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hope you get some sleep soon, girl (although I too have done the stay-up-until-all-hours-finishing-a-book thing)! In the meantime, coffee and that perky eye look oughta do ya! 🙂 The green in the inner corner is especially pretty and I love that lavender!

yay, Karen! I’ve been very curious about these new shadows, glad to hear a positive review. I was actually about to order mint and forest last weekend but deciced to wait. so I’m very happy to see photographic evidence of mint in action, LOL. I also had my eye on penny, which is bronze, but it’s missing from the chart there. hm.
ps-you do look well rested! and glowy too.

Lol, I know how it is when you get a new book and you just can’t put it down. I was insane about Harry Potter, read every book in one night (I know, I’m a nerd)!! You look sooo pretty with this look, it looks really fresh on you!
I have a lot of similar shades to these eyeshadows but I have my eye on the pink lipstick. I’m also a sucker for pink lippies 🙂

Thats so pretty – I love pastel purples and greens together, especially in the summer! I’m with ya on the tired thing, I went to bed at midnight and was up at 5:30am to go out so even though its only 10:30pm-ish now I’m a tired bunny. Worst of it is, I’m up early again tomorrow too – but for breakfast and shopping so I’m sure I’ll haul my ass out of bed without too much trouble!
I hope you’re not feeling too crappy – usually with tired its the 3pm slump that kills ya, so stick with the coffee and you should make it through!

Hi Beth,
Ha! Why is it that when it comes to fun stuff it’s so easy to wake up at the crack of dawn? When I was a kid I’d get up SO EARLY to watch Saturday morning cartoons! 🙂
It’s coming up on three here and I’m starting to fee a lil’ slumpy… coffee time!
Have fun shopping tomorrow. Are you going with your friends?
Karen says
Hi Nosh,
I read pretty quickly and have finished books in one evening, too! Because it’s the last book in whole entire series I am trying desperately to stretch it out as long as I can! It’s killing me though, because it’s quite good and I want to see what happens to the characters SO BADLY!
LOL, you and me both. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Thanks! I haven’t seen Forest in person but the swatch looks purty.
I want the Navy blue, too.
You should totally get the green — it would look faboo on your skin. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
I was thinking today that it would oh so fabulously go with Benefit’s Gossip Cream Shadow liner. Oh, the temptation! How has your day been?
Glosslizard says
Hi Karen!
Well, the kids and I are sharing a light summer cold, so we’re taking it easy today and doing next to nothing! On the bright side, my shoes came today and they are soooooo beautiful! They fit perfectly in the heel, but they’re a bit tight in the toe so I’m wearing them a bit in hopes that they stretch just a smidge.
Now that I’ve seen them in person, I’m leaning toward Lincoln Park After Dark on the toes and creamy gold on the fingernails! Argh, it’s the first week of August and I’m so craving Fall trends!
Bridget says
Ohhh I love that green/lavender combination! Very pretty, must try. 🙂
Have you finished Breaking Dawn?! Pretty awesome. 🙂 I’ve been reading the Q&A’s from her tour and she has some really good answers to things that left me scratching my head a bit. But I’ll say no more! :X

Karen says
Oh! Are you wearing thick socks? I find wearing a few layers while breaking shoes in around the house helps a LOT!
Good call on the polish choices. Have you decided on the other accessories? Will you be wearing gold jewelry?
Karen says
Hi Bridget,
I have about a quarter left. Here’s what I said out loud while in bed at approximately one in the morning:
“OH NOOOOOOO HE DIDN’T!”
We’ll have to discuss when I’m finally finished. 🙂
Amanda says
yeah, I haven’t seen these in person yet either. I would have to drive 1+ hour so I’m kinda holding out. I’m really drawn to mint, but keep telling myself I don’t really need it. I already have a mint shadow, from a stila palette…..le sigh.
Glosslizard says
Brilliant! I’m actually wearing socks over them (looking so chic – LOL!) so I don’t mess up the soles (I like to keep my returning options open, y’know?), but I’ll add some socks in between to bring on the stretch! Thanks! 🙂
I’ve so been avoiding the accessories issue! I have such a pitiful collection of accessories and I don’t want to spend any more right now (Hubby has already been more than indulgent on the shoe front)! I’ll either improvise or borrow!
Ha! I am so reserving those books at the library! 😀
Glosslizard says
I put on white socks under the red shoes and now I look like Dorothy! 😀
~H says
I too have spent the last few nights staying up late to read Breaking Dawn…none of my friends have even started it so I HAVE NO ONE TO DISCUSS it with. It’s killing me. I finished it last night and now I’m just plain sad…
Bridget says
hahaha I think I know which part you said THAT to!! I was like SHUT UP. JUST SHUT UP. Then laughed my butt off.haha
Happy reading! 🙂

Hi Karen,
This is actually one of my favorite looks on you! It’s subtle, but so pretty. I totally thought of you and one of your blog posts today when I was at Costco – they had the Smashbox and Stila collections you mentioned, but they also had MAC eyeshadows and Lancome skin care products! They had Sumptuous Olive, Beauty Marked and Swiss Chocolate eye shadows from MAC for around $11.50 a piece. They also had Lancome’s BiFacial for only $20. I also spotted a box of eye shadow trios from Smashbox there, too, but I don’t remember the details of that one. I didn’t pick up anything yet, I wanted to look them up first. You should totally make a trip over and see if they carry those at yours, too. 😀

Hey Karen!
These eyeshadows really look like Celestial quad by Clarins, IMO! 😀 By the way, gorgeous look, so~ fresh. I’m definitely loving the green-lavender combo! I have tried something similar quite a lot of times but I can’t make it look right. 🙁 Maybe I’ll try with the celestial quad.
Hugs!

Hi Karen. It’s very pretty and cheery. Your smile, together with this look, brighten up my tumultuous week. Sigh.

Very pretty look Karen!
I saw these shadows and I like Mint and Midnight. Midnight will make an awesome liner. Still debating on whether or not to get them.

Karen says
Hi Marisol,
Aye, I will probably be tempted then, too. Navy liner is so fab; I sometimes forget it’s an option. I found a Laura Mercier cake liner in my stash this morning that I totally forgot I had!
Mint is really pretty over Birthday Suit. 😉
Karen says
Hi Miss QQ,
Oh no! What’s going on, my dear? If you don’t want to share, well, no worries. I just hope the rest of your week gets better. 🙂 Tomorrow is a new day.
Karen says
Hi Eru,
OOOOOh! Would you believe I don’t have any Clarins quads? What should I start with?
Big hugs back. Tell your bunnies hi for me.
Karen says
Hi Elena,
OH SNAP! I am so there. I have to go up that way to get Tabs a kitty harness so I’ll just have to pop in. I need a new BiFacil… that’s my official excuse.
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Karen says
Hi Bridget,
LOLOL, I just got from dance, and all I want to do is hurry and shower so I can settle in with the story!
I am still team Jacob (I think).
Karen says
Hi ~H,
None of my IRL friends are into it, either. We’ll all just have to chat it up when we’re done. I should be finishing it in the next day or so. I am really eager to get to the end of the book but so sad that it’ll be over soon.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
LOL! Wow, you learn something new every day — I never thought of wearing socks over the shoes to while around the house. That’s a great idea.
I’m thinking I need some red patent leather shoes. I had a pair but they’re MIA (boo).
I hope you enjoy the Twilight series. It really is fantastic.
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Wow, that’s a long way for some makeup! I’d go that far for some shadow, LOL.
Hmm, the mint is pretty, but if you have something similar then maybe save the $ for all of the awesome fall offerings that are coming out. 🙂

Very pretty! I love the color combo!

Hey Karen!
I totally stayed up almost all night to read Breaking Dawn too and I finished it only to find myself depressed because it was over! However, on the bright side, I just read that Stephanie Meyer is planning on writing 2 more books dealing with the Twilight world yay! What do you think of it so far?
Anyways love love love the eye look!

Okay so you should grabbed some Emergen-c. I totally couldn’t sleep last night…and I hit the emergen-C this morning…and I’ve been doing surprisingly well for the 3.5-4 hours of sleep I got. 🙂
