NYX Eye/Eyebrow Glitter Pencils from left: Aqua Glitter, Lavender Glitter, Sliver Glitter, Gold Glitter
The glittery tips that top each of NYX’s nine new Eye/Eyebrow Pencils are thrilling me almost as much as their price ($3.50 each).
This week, after swatching four of the new colors, all of them additions to the company’s stable of permanent products, I did a little shimmy (insert boogie down dance *here*).
POW! These colors look amazing.
The pencil tips also feel fantastic. Because they’re firm, they maintain a fine point longer than I expected them to, but all their glitter comes at a price…
Grit. 🙁
All four of the shades I’ve been using tug and scratch at my lids, with color that applies unevenly, and I’ve had to use between four and six layers to lay down solid lines.
It’s gotta be the glitter… While the pencils appear saturated with the stuff, very little actually ends up on my lids or lash line, and the glitter that does get deposited looks clumpy and uneven.
They could probably also use a little help in the wear time department… The Gold and Silver shades begin to fade within about five minutes of application on bare, oily lids; an hour later they’re all but gone (where does the color go, I wonder?).
The Aqua and Lavender shades do last substantially longer, especially when I prep my eyes with Urban Decay Eden Primer. That combo delivers about four hours of wear, but even then the glitter still migrates into the crease (boo!).

All told, I’m not crazy about the way these pencils look on my eyes, but I adore them on the back of my hand, ha! Because they are so inexpensive, however, they may still be worth a try. Since my issues are with the way they apply (and not with the colors themselves, which I love), they may end up working better for you than me. If they do, you’re golden. 🙂 Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C

too bad they crease. i got my eyes on full set 🙁
do you like those other non-glitter slim pencils Nyx has ?
Karen says
Ya know, I haven’t tried those yet. Can anybody else weigh in on the non-glittery slim pencils?
tanveer says
Those slim pencils have equally bad staying power. They start to fade within an hour & are gone by 3 hours of wear. This is of course without a primer, on bare lids.
But then i know of plenty of pencils that stay on for long w/o primers.
scarlettholly says
booo!!!! even if they are cheap, pencils that feel like they scratch my eyes are a big no-no 🙁
Karen says
Yeah, I know. 🙁
Kayann says
I like the colors but did I see that they’re eyeliner/eyebrow pencils???
Karen says
Ha ha, can you imagine putting them in your brows?
Kayann says
I think my daughter would love blue gliterry eyebrows!
Karen says
My former club self would’ve loved them too.
Jenn says
I’ve been waiting for your review on these because I just love the colors. But, if they are hard to go on i’d rather invest more in something softer.
Karen says
Is the glitter a non-negotiable for you? Milani makes some shimmery pencils that don’t have the big chunks of glitter, but have the same sort of metallic vibe. They go on soft and last a long time, too. Here’s a look I did with them from a while back:

Yaaayyy! I was just thinking – Milani has the answer to this! They DO have a glittery counterpart to these NYX liners, and they are fantastic.

They go on super smooth, the glitter is intense, and the color/glitter lasts forever – seriously all day or more PLUS no sharpening!. I have no trouble admitting I am the world’s biggest dufus when it comes to applying eyeliner, but even I can make these look gorgeous. Now the shades may not be quite as exciting as the NYX ones, but the quality and wear makes up for it, IMO.

Now those ones I saw at my local grocery store (those jumbo pencils not yet) … but if they dont wear too well I might pass. i was loving the gold!
Karen says
Still no jumbo pencils? I wonder if they’ll ever come in!
Nina says
Im thinking ill prolly cave in and order them online – something about gold pencils is really getting me these days! 😀
AshBash says
i wil surely pass on that! they should be ashamed.
Karen says
I’m hoping they might work for some people… maybe for drier skins?
Alex says
One look and you can tell that the glitter would ruin these.
Karen says
I really wanted these to work!
snoopysteph says
Is it my eyes or can you see the liner migrated above your crease in the photo? Even at $3.50 I don’t see this as a worthwhile investment. Pretty colors though!
Karen says
Yes, the color does migrate into the crease, and that’s with a good primer beneath!
Amber says
Too bad, that purple is fantastic!
Karen says
I know! I really wanted these to work because they’re so cheap.
Sherri says
This was a good concept but the glitter has to go. I hate when I can feel the glitter in products, they should have made them frosty or with shimmer.
Karen says
I don’t mind glitter if it’s 1.) refined and not too chunky and 2.) actually stays on. Sometimes it can add a fun punch to a look!
Phyrra says
It’s too bad they’re like that 🙁
Otherwise, I’d like the Aqua shade.
Karen says
That’s my favorite color out of the bunch, sigh.
YJ says
Ooooh, I like the swatches, but I’m always a little scared of things with glitter in them! They ALWAYS find a way to get in my eye/under my contact lens =(
Karen says
Yikes, that’s not good!
Have you heard of the MAC Pearlglide liners? They’re LE, but they’re pretty darn great for glittery liners!
YJ says
I’ll have to check them out! Thanks for the tip!!!
K says
How sad! Good glitter liners seem to be hard to come by.
Lily says
I stay away from NYX liners, I have their jumbo one in Milk and it creases like crazy within 2 minutes on my lids, even when primed 🙁
Nika says
I agree, the swatches look so much better than when applied on the eyes. Too bad because I’m loving Aqua Glitter!
Kim says
Oh darn – I got excited about the Aqua Glitter. You know I’m in the market for a teal-like color. 🙂
Rica says
Oh… they totally remind me of the MAC Softsparkle Eyepencils, which is not a good thing. I never really like the MAC ones, so I don’t think I’m going to try the NYX ones.
Why do they market it as Eye/Eyebrow Pencils? I don’t know about others, but I certainly don’t want glittery eyebrow on a daily basis. On a lighter note, the colours are gorgeous though. I wonder if it shows up that well.
Thanks Karen!

The gold and blue looks really good swatched. It’s just a shame that they don’t work well enough. I guess you get what you pay for sometimes.
Vonvon says
I love the swatches on the back your hand. So vibrant pretty colors…but thank for the review. Skipping them!
Nicole says
aw how disappointing 🙁 the gold one looked so gorgeous, too!
Jeni says
I love the look of them on your hand, and the color of the aqua and periwinkle ones are sooo nice. I am still tempted to try them because they are so cheap and I love glitter eyeliner!
L says
I have tried a few of the Slim Eye Pencils and haven’t had any major issues.
They work good for me, I often don’t use them with primer and they have fairly decent staying power but I’d get a primer for the oilier lids and if you need it to last longer then 3-ish hours.
The color selection is so good and if you can figure out how to make them work for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
I have green eyes so its hard to find colors that look good but they have reds, browns, pinks, purples etc etc so you can have a bunch that look great.
I hate that most companies only have purples and browns for green eyes because red looks amazing!
