Wonder Twin powers, activate!
Tarte and Sephora recently did just that — activating their Wonder Twin makeup powers to form the new Beauty in a Box Bronze Smokey Eye Kit ($45).
The six-piece limited edition kit comes with products in bronze, nude and purple, with four full-size items (the Lock & Roll Creasless Cream Shadow and Loose Powder in Burnt Bronze, EmphasEYES Waterproof Clay Shadow/Liner in Plum, Rise & Shine Lip Gloss and Stain in Nude, and the Clean Slate Natural Face Primer) and two deluxe minis (Park Ave Princess Mineral Powder Bronzer; and Lights, Camera, Splashes Waterproof Mascara).
The only things missing? Brushes and your imagination. 🙂

Great for looks either dressed up or dressed down (like a great pair of jeans!), the Bronze Smokey Eye Kit has mad skillz and flexibility. With it today I did a day-friendly look to run some errands around town, but I could have turned up the heat using the same products to do something a little more dramatic. I think that’s the beauty of this kit.
Shades like the ones here — natural bronzes and purples — are right up my alley, but what do you think? Would you wear the colors in Tarte Beauty in a Box?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. How’s it going tonight? I’m just about to take my shower and get ready for bed, but not before I watch an episode of Drop Dead Diva with Tabs.
Celine says
Ooooooohhhh! Does want!
Karen says
Yay! Do you think you might pick it up?
lily says
nice combination of products for this set, love that liner color!!!!
Karen says
Yes, it’s very pretty.
Julia says
I’m seemingly on an eternal hunt for the perfect bronze, smudgy eyeliner. I’m super pale but also half-Japanese, so I’ve got undertones like I’ve never seen on anyone. The right bronze is great, but the wrong bronze is oh-so wrong. How warm/cool is this one, would you say?
Karen says
Hi Julia,
Are you asking about the Plum liner or the Bronze Lock & Roll? If you want a bronze liner the Lock & Roll might not be your best bet…
Julia says
Sorry! Yes, the bronze Lock & Roll. It’s a tricky one? Dang!
Jessica says
I’m a pale girl, and Park Avenue Princess is the most beautiful bronzer I have ever used.
Its perfect! Not a trace of orange.
Karen says
I wish I discovered this bronzer sooner. It’s the perfect golden bronze. 🙂
Agnes says
love the purples and bronze in this kit! perfect shades for fall and pretty much my favourite eyeshadow colors as well! 😀
Karen says
Do you think you might pick this up, Agnes?
Marina says
The colours are SO good. I wish I could buy this set. Shimmery Cream Shadow from Burt Bronze Lock & Roll is gorgeous. heh..
Karen says
These shades would look GREAT on you!
Amber says
Ooh, ahh! This is a winner!
Karen says
Yes it is! Have you tried the Clean Slate primer yet? It’s the bomb.com.
Amber says
I’ve never tried anything from Tarte, believe it or not!
Aparnaa says
Seriously, thanks for drawing our attention to this…I’m so getting it after work. I can always use an easy face kit!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Aparnaa! This is a really great price for the set. I hope you like it. 🙂
Nina says
Me wants this bad. Now im plotting how to get to a Sephora sometime during my time off this week! 😀
That purple shadow/liner is awesome! 🙂
Karen says
It should be really pretty layered beneath the rollerball loose shadow, ooh la la!
So jealous that you’re taking time off. Can Tabs come over and play? LOLOL
Nina says
It would look fantastic w/ that rollerball shadow thing-o that i wantz too!
Oh yesyesyes pls tell Tabs to come and play! 😀
Karen says
I’ll have him wear his “formal tie” when he comes over so he’ll be dressed up. 🙂
Kim says
Oh, I like this day-friendly look A LOT. Plus, it had me at Rollerball.
And OMG, Karen, the Wonder Twins? This is why I love your blog. It literally made my day since, believe it or not, I was just reminiscing with a friend about the Wonder Twins recently (and about the fact that I had Superfriends curtains in my room as a kid). But I digress….
Karen says
I used to watch that show every day after school! Also in the lineup: GI Joe, He-Man and Transformers. Yes, I went to a babysitter where all the kids were DUDES.
Kim says
I hear you! I was on a street of all boys. My only “Barbie” was a “Pulsar” action figure. When you squeezed his back, you could see the blood pump through his see-through chest. Sorta explains a lot. 🙂
Karen says
That actually sounds very cool. All of our games/playtime were spent playing Voltron, and since I was the only girl by default I had to play the chick…
Kim says
Oh, no! I’m sorry. I hated having to be the girl too (no offense to Wonder Woman). Somehow even the superhero girls always needed saving. Boo. 🙂
Liz! says
Ooooh, this kit looks nice! I’d totally wear it! I got a Tarte kit from Sephora a few weeks ago that was only $15 and I loved all the products.
Karen says
Oh cool! What is your favorite Tarte item so far?
Liz! says
The Lock & Roll eyeshadows were my fav for sure, they had great staying power on my lids!
lexi says
OOOh that’s pretty. I love the bronze eye and purple liner look. $45 is not a bad price for all those items.
Karen says
Nope, it’s pretty darn great… it breaks down to about $7.50 per piece. The full-sized Clean Slate Primer is usually $30 alone.
Ru says
Hmm…purple & bronze? I would have never thunk it… I will have to try that at home withOUT the kit. The price is killing me here…
I just got a starter kit from Tarte from qvc. It had the gel liner in black + 2sided (liner/smudger) brush, full size lights, camera, lashes!, mini size frosty pink cheek tint/blush, and full size beige/tuape eyeshadow for $26! The mascara itself was $19 and the gel liner is $22 for a full size (this was a bit smaller) so it was a winner!
Karen says
Hi Ru,
Yeah, $45 is a lot, but you do get quite a few full-sized items. It breaks down to about $7.50/piece, which isn’t bad for Tarte.
Your starter kit sounds fabulous, btw. How are you liking the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara?
Ru says
Oh Karen! I can sing you a song about it! t I reeeallllyy like it (can you tell?!). I love that it holds a curl without my curler (makes work mornings easier), it doesn’t make my lashes crispy/flaky. It’s easy to take off, and I can rock it with no eye makeup (for that natural flirty lash look). It’s a bit clumpy upon application, but that goes away later and can be avoided by wiping down with a tissue. I bought 2 more since tarte is having the F&F sale for $11.90 a pop!
Karen says
It’s a GREAT mascara. I love how it makes the lashes look so black and almost glossy! 🙂 Glad you were able to stock up during the F&F sale.
Vonvon says
All the purples that you have swatched are so tempting!
I think it’s a great set for those who are new to the brand, like moi!
I wish more makeup brands would come up with such value sets all the time, and not only for special occasions, etc. 😉
amy says
The plum liner is oh so gorgeous! I want to get it but trying to hold back on makeup because I need to upgrade my computer.
Lindsay says
Ooo what a fun little box!
Melissa W. says
This looks like a great kit! I am a sucker for bronze and purple together. I may have to get it!
snoopysteph says
I love Tarte and I’ve been eyeing those cream shadow/liners. I’ve used the bronzer & primer before and they’re excellent! I’m really surprised they didn’t throw in one of their signature cheek stains in this set – somehow doesn’t seem “complete” without it.
Karen says
That would’ve been like the icing on the cake. 🙂
Redhead says
Am I the only one who thinks Burnt Bronze looks like two shades of purple in the swatch?
Karen says
Hey Redhead,
That might be an issue with my skin… mine tends to bring out blues/purples. It may look more bronze on you.
Courtnie says
I ADORE their lock n rolls. The only complaint I have is that the powder shadow doesn’t always roll out smoothly. But the colors are amazing and I love that the cream shadow does not crease without primer. I will definitely buy this… if hubby will let me.
Karen says
A few women have mentioned that issue. You could always roll it onto the back of your hand first, and then pick up the product with an eyeshadow brush to apply to your lids! I know that kinda defeats the purpose of convenience, but it might be an option for days when you have a little more time.
Kymberlee says
How does this primer compare to Smashbox Primer (the Oil-free one)?
I am really liking the eyeliner color! So pretty!
Karen says
I like it better than the Smashbox one, which tends to break me out.
Does your skin do well with silicones? Clean Slate contains silicones and has that slippery, tell-tale silicone feel to it.
Kacey says
Wow! This is the first full-face palette I’ve really thought I’d use everything from! I love every single thing about it – especially the stain, gel liner, and purple-y bronze nifty shadow system. Out of my price range, unfortunately ;_; Oh well! *hopes for giveaway, or generous gifts from relatives* 😛
Sarah says
This is a cute look and I’m a sucker for those Beauty-in-a-Box kits! Also I’d like to tell you that you’ve gotten me totally addicted to Drop Dead Diva! 🙂
knownever says
I like the stain and gloss combo for being on the go. i’ve never seen this before but it would be great if someone did a combo lip/cheek stain and mascara. that way the whole look is in one stick.
Tiffany says
Cute set! I am especially interested in the stain and gloss combo!
Nika says
They’re pretty! But for $45? I don’t know..
Resha says
that’s really not a bad price for all of that…dang..
tika says
hai, i’m wondering which one do u like, tarte mineral bronzer or phsycian formula healthy wear? tell me, ^^
