Wearing Too Faced La Crème in Juicy Melons
Between the cooking, cat walking, housecleaning, crying and quiet rumination I did last weekend, I also…
1. Got a massage
After two days inside, I had to get out of the house, so I finally used the spa gift card I’d been saving since Christmas to get a deep-tissue massage.
And I learned a valuable lesson that day about massage technicians formerly employed by professional football teams — that it’s not a good idea to tell one, “Gimme all ya got! I have a high tolerance for pain.”
Unless, of course, you really, really do.
2. Posed with The Biebs
No, seriously! He was at Macy’s. There he was, standing perfectly still by a display for his new fragrance, Girlfriend, so I just walked up, whipped out my iPhone, and click!
Which reminds me: Dear Justin, while I have absolutely no desire to wear this or any scent designed by a teenage boy, your display cutouts? — awesome.
3. Hardly wore any makeup at all
Heck, I barely had the wherewithal to fill in my brows, which for me is something tantamount to breathing, or wearing underwear, or eating on a regular basis.
Tabs did not approve.
He kept sending me passive aggressive texts about my wayward workplace appearance with excerpts from his new book, Tabs the Cat on Style: Everything You Need to Know to Live a Fashionable Life, like this little nugget: “A full-coverage lip color in a classic, elegant shade will do wonders for your look.”
Crankypants!
Today is actually the first day in a week that he hasn’t given me the above “evil eye,” and I think it has something to do with these new Too Faced La Crème lip creams ($21 each), which are basically super soft lipsticks packed with pigment and shine.
All 16 of the moisturizing morsels in the completely new product line contain lotus flower extract and peptides (fancy!) to help keep lips smooth and firm. The wide range of nudes, spices, pinks and reds makes it easy to find a color to coordinate with your outfit.
And because the colors are so saturated, soft and smooth, not only can I skip wearing them with a lip liner, but I also only need one layer for opaque, even coverage.
They’re just easy to use. They don’t even settle into my fine lines or bleed beyond my natural lip line.
From the left: Naughty Nude, Naked Dolly, Nude Beach and In the Buff
Spice Spice Baby, Cinnamon Kiss, Honey Bear and Sweet Maple
Marshmallow Bunny, Razzle Dazzle Rose, Juicy Melons and Fuchsia Shock
Juicy Melons is probably my favorite. I love how the hint of orange works with a tan, but Fuchsia Shock and Coral Fire also behave well on bronzed skin.
I Want Candy, Coral Fire, Stiletto Red and Divine Wine

I think these borrow inspiration from Benefit, specifically Benefit’s Silky-Finish Lipsticks, which seem a lot like these but feel a little thinner to me.
As for how long these last on my lips, I get between 3-4 hours, assuming I’m just chillin’ at my desk and not eating or drinking, which isn’t altogether good or bad.
While they’re unflavored, they do have a faint licorice-like scent that fades after about 5 minutes. They don’t, however, contain parabens or mineral oil.
Oh, I have noticed that these appear to be temperature sensitive. They melt easier than many lipsticks do, which is just to say that you might want to be careful where you keep them if you live somewhere very hot (I’ve been thinking about keeping them in the fridge).
PRICE: $21 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Sephora and Ulta stores, and online at toofaced.com

Uh oh.. I think the licorice scent won’t please everyone.
The nudes are beautiful, I don’t know which one to choose! Which nude did you prefer between Naughty Nude and Spice Spice Baby (I just love that name loll)?
Karen says
Hi CrystalCandy,
Funny, I wore both of those today! I prefer Spice Spice Baby. It’s more pink and just a bit more wearable. 🙂
CrystalCandy says
Thank you so much! 🙂
Karen says
You’re welcome! I hope you had a nice Tuesday.
CrystalCandy says
I did, thank you! 😀
Swatch And Learn says
Hmm…not the biggest fan of licorice scents, so that’s a drawback for me. But it’s good to know that it goes away pretty quickly.
Fuchsia Shock looks like a really fun colour!
Karen says
Neither am I, but this one is very, very faint and it disappears quickly, which makes it bearable. 🙂

I want candy, Juicy melon and Coral fire (…and there is no such thing as too much coral in yer life, either) :-D. You are GLOWING in these pictures, btw!
Kisses at Tabs :).
Karen says
Tabs sends purrs and head butts back. He just got back from a walk so he’s in a great mood, LOL!
musical says
Ooh, Tabs, you are so generous and sweet :). Purrs and meows to you too ;).
Karen, sweet dreams, bella!

Fuchsia Shock looks very pretty! I’m not sure I’d like the liquorice scent, though.
Mary says
thanks for the swatches! Coral Fire is definitely your color!
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
Want, want, want these NOW! So pretty! I was hoping for something a bit sheerer, but they’re lovely nonetheless
Olivia says
I absolutely hate licorice, but these look so beautiful.
You look AMAZING in Coral Fire by the way! It’s definitely my favourite out of these (I think I’m just stockpiling coral and orange lip products at the moment…) I’ll have try it for myself soon!

I like the last 8 of the 16 colors you showed above.
They are bright, colored, red, pink, melon-y! Yea, my kind of colors!
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Oh Karen you look ADORABLE with these colors! If they melt easily though, I think people who live in a warmer climate might be put off.
Marina says
Oh, thanks for the review. There are several shades that caught my eye. But not happy about the scent…
Tiffany says
These look awesome! I need to get one (or three!) 🙂 I like juice melons, I want candy, and coral fire the best!
Nina says
You are gorg in these pics – so glowy and with such perfect hair! The lippies remind me of Rouge Coco Shines, for some reason. I want like 6 of them! 🙂
Lip products like these are right up my alley!
Ankita@corallista says
These look so great! There is something so utterly beautiful about group shots of makeup esp lipsticks! Loved Fuchsia Shock, I Want Candy, Coral Fire and Stiletto Red. The others except Divine Wine will probably wash me out! You look so lovely in Coral Fire!
Karen says
I esp. love the pink shades worn with your new hair 🙂 Tabs wearing his sternly disapproving face is too much, lol! Hope your day is a good one 🙂
Kim says
Once again, I’m surprised by the difference in the tube vs the swatch. I know, after all these years, you’d think I’d catch on! 🙂
Btw, was Tabs angry with Nude Beach? It seems to be missing a chunk. HAHA!
artemis says
they look so pretty on the lips 😀 All the shades you applied look pretty on you 😀
It’s great to know they don’t settle :/ if only i had the money, tee heee
J says
You look great in these! They seem very wearable…and I love Too Faced. I really think they’re one of the more underrated makeup brands out there. I love their primer and their Chocolate Soleil bronzer. I’m definitely going to have try these.
Barb says
I’ll take one of everything, thank you!
I especially love the nude colors. They are all gorgeous!
Karen says
Hi Barb,
Hee hee! I know that feeling all too well. Which of the nude shades are you loving the most?
Amanda says
I’m loving these colors and some of the names! I was just making a Sephora order so I think I’ll be adding one or two to may basket. Thanks for the review and pics, makes my shopping so much easier!
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
You’re welcome! What colors are you thinking about getting? And what else is in your Sephora cart?
Jocelyn says
Would you say these are anything like the YSL Rouge Volupte? I love those! My favorite lipstick of all time is actually #26 and I spotted something similar-ish in this post. It would be nice to have a slightly cheaper option.

Thank you so much for posting this review. I’ve got $10 to spend by today @ beautylish & I found these lipsticks from Too Faced, a brand I love. It looks like there are so many lovely colors, but of course the one I settled on, Spice Spice Baby, is out of stock. Your swatches & photos are helping me narrow it down to I Want Candy, Coral Fire or Cinnamon Kiss. Unfortunately, my coloring is different from yours, but it’s great to see how they look on you (all of them look great, BTW). Ah, decisions, decisions!
