El Hub: Sweetie, are you okay? Why are you crying?
Me: I’m not crying. My eyes are just watery.
El Hub: Are you sure, babe? I think those might be tears.
Me: If I tell you, you’ll think I’m silly.
El Hub: I promise not to think you’re silly.
Me: I dunno… I was just about to chat with the gals on the blog about this new Rouge Bunny Rouge Naked Disguise Concealer, and then I started thinking about its velvety texture, and so I took out The Velveteen Rabbit and re-read it, and now I can’t stop crying.
I mean, when the Velveteen Rabbit becomes real at the end…?
FREAKING PMS!
El Hub: It’s okay. Put down the concealer for a second, and I’ll go get you Charmie and make you a cup of ice cream. I think we have some Three Twins Sea Salt Caramel in the freezer…
Me: (Sniffs) Really?
El Hub: You’ll feel better after you take a break, and then you can talk to your friends about makeup. I know that always makes you feel better.
Me: (Sniffs) Alright… 🙂
Swatches from the left: Thalia 045, Eunice 046 and Clio 047
Rouge Bunny Rouge Naked Disguise Glide Concealers
- Available in three shades, each with a sheer, semi-opaque coverage and a satiny finish — Clio 047 (a warm semi-opaque ochre-beige), Eunice 046 (a medium-toned semi-opaque peachy beige) and Thalia 045 (a natural-looking semi-opaque light beige)
- Designed to disguise imperfections, like light scars and fine lines, while bestowing a natural-looking glow and color
- I think all three shades are a little light for my NC42 skin…but I might be able to wear Clio 047 to diminish the red spots on my chin (damn these hormonal breakouts!) and Eunice 046 under my eyes
- Clio does a good job of covering up the redness on my blemishes. It looks pretty natural and lightweight, but now that I think about it, I’m not so sure about Eunice. It doesn’t do much for my dark circles and only lasts about five hours
- I do like the creamy formula and crayon packaging, but lighter lovelies and gals with medium skin tones may have better luck than I do with these. If you need real deal, heavy-duty concealing, though, you may want to look elsewhere (I really like the MAC Pro Longwear Concealers)
PRICE: $27 each

Now serving Trader Joe’s Meatless Meatballs!
Perfect for spaghetti in “meat” sauce, LOL! I made it last night with TJ’s off-the-shelf marinara sauce, and I think it turned out surprisingly good. First, I cooked the meatballs in a little olive oil with some shallots, garlic and basil, yum!.
Let me know if you want the full (easy) recipe. I’m thinking about starting a Meatless Mondays at home.
Hope your hump day got off to a good start. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Nina says
First off, what a cute El Hub & Karen story – he knows you so well!
Definitely curious about this concealer … and the meatless meatballs! Hurry up Trader Joes!
Karen says
They’re still not there yet? It feels like you’ve been waiting for FOREVER.
Nina says
One store opened but its a bit too far for me. The one sorta close to our house opens on Sep 21, and the one really really close to our house opens end of the year. Sooo longggg!
Karen says
ZOMG. Well, at least it’ll be open just in time for all the holiday noms. You will freak out over the Dark Chocolate Stars!!!
Nina says
Yeppp – I cannot wait!
Jennifer says
Oh sweet husband you have! Off topic but I am halfway through Enclave and I really like it.
Karen says
Hi Jennifer,
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the book! The follow-up book, Outpost, comes out next week. I’m counting down the seconds…
What part of the story are you currently at?
Heidi says
Oh, man, I don’t have to have PMS for the Velveteen Rabbit to completely do me in! It’s the best!
I have used those meatless meatballs many times and I love them!
Last night Brian came over and I cooked for him (first time cooking for him). He’s usually a meat and potatoes kind of guy but he’s very tolerant of my semi-vegetarianism. I made mango barbecued beans and it was supposed to serve four people. I had my one serving and Brian polished off the rest of the pot. I guess he liked it!
Karen says
I’ve never thought to put mangos and beans together! Was it a spicy dish?
Heidi says
The heat in the dish comes from red pepper flakes, you can totally put in as much as you want. I used 1/4 tsp, which was pretty spicy, but then you put maple syrup in at the end which balances it out. It’s more smokey than spicy, since it calls for liquid smoke. It was really good! It had kidney beans, onion, garlic, tomato sauce, veggie broth, allspice, coriander, red pepper flakes, salt, mango, liquid smoke, and maple syrup (I think that’s everything).
Karen says
NOM NOM NOM! I may have to try this. I bet it would taste really good over rice.
*tummy rumbles*
Heidi says
I got the recipe from this amazing book:
http://www.amazon.com/Appetite-Reduction-Filling-Low-Fat-Recipes/dp/1600940498/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346293620&sr=8-1&keywords=appetite+for+reduction
Everything I’ve tried so far has been so good. I want to try everything in the book! And it’s all healthy!
Cynthia says
ugh. I’m gonna be honest. When companies don’t care enough to make darker shades, it REALLY turns me off towards buying anything of theirs.
Karen says
Hi Cynthia,
The line is fairly new…hopefully they’ll add more colors in the future.
Kim says
Oh, El Hub! He’s so good. 🙂 The Hubs would say “OMG, were you watching ‘How to Train your Black Beauty’ again?” I famously sobbed through (nearly everything I’ve ever watched – hee hee) Black Beauty and How to Train your Dragon. I’m with you on the Velveteen Rabbit. There is a more recent kids’ book that is even worse. The name is not coming to me, probably because every time I looked at the cover, I’d bust out in tears! Hey, we’re tenderhearted, what can we say? 🙂
Karen says
It’s been years since I’ve seen Black Beauty…I do remember quite a few tears! *sniffs*
If you remember the name of that book let me know so I can stay away from it, LOL!
Kim says
This is the honest truth. It hit me this AM that it was “I Love You Forever”. I just googled that to be sure it was correct and had to close the window immediately so I wouldn’t cry. PMS, right? HAHA!
It’s been years for me with Black Beauty, too. The Hubs came home from work and I was sobbing on the couch. We hadn’t been together for long so he thought something horrible had happened and rushed over, very worried, asking what was wrong. I was like “I was just watching Black Beauty (sniffle)…” He said “you just got home before me… how long could you have been watching?”. After I choked out “I don’t know.. 15 minutes?”, that was the end of the sympathy. 🙂
musical says
Awwww-that’s such a sweet story from you and El-Hub :). Salted caramels and ice-cream!
Love the faux meatballs from TJ’s. I am vegetarian so these suit me well. I also crumble ’em and use for a good chili. The guy and i are both total TJ fanatics :). They recently discontinued one of his favorite frozen meals and he was upset! But then he found something yummier to replace it ;). Their fruity floes, mochi ice-cream and biscottis also get massive love.
These concealer shades are quite light for me…*sigh*
Karen says
Hi Musical,
Hmm, I think I’ll try them in chili next! Thank you for the idea. 🙂 Is your chili spicy? I’m always looking for a good recipe…
musical says
Yes, I love my chili spicy! Smoky chipotle flavah and a dash of cocoa powder are the key!
Karen says
Ooh — so I’ve never heard of adding cocoa powder.
I know chili tends to be a closely guarded secret, but if you have a recipe to share I’m all ears, LOL!
musical says
I never follow any set recipe (even if you give me one, i always make changes) :-D. But yes, i make sure to get these ingredients in, besides good quality, juicy tomatoes.
But here’s a reference recipe from a blog buddy:
http://onehotstove.blogspot.com/2007/11/fall-favorite-chili-and-cornbread.html
Mine is much thicker than what’s in the pictures and i crumble the “meatballs’. Also I use fresh, diced tomatoes instead of puree’.
My favorite way to eat chili is as is, or with jalapeno-cheddar cornbread ;).
musical says
Oh, and slow cooking-to get a creamy, yummy consistency!
Kimberly says
Thanks for the info on the concealers but I guess I’ll have to wait for a suitable shade. You must read Homer’s Odyssey by Gwen Cooper. As fit TJ’s….please post recipe.
Karen says
Okay, I’ll make the spaghetti again over the weekend and take pics and post a recipe! 🙂
Thea says
Oh noes! I was so excited about maybe trying out a new concealer for once, but seeing the ingredients put me off it… 🙁 All that mineral oil will give me major break-outs!
The full recipe for the meatless meatballs would be welcome, though! Meatless Mondays is such a good idea 🙂
Karen says
Will do, Thea. I’ll do it over the weekend when I come back from Tahoe. 🙂
Katherine G says
Love the story about El Hubs. The Velveteen Rabbit is sad! And I cried at Black Beauty, too. My emotions have to be kept more in check because of my job but there are a few things that can successfully make me cry. The concealers look interesting, I’m always on the lookout for a new concealer to try!.
Karen says
Hi Katherine G!
Thought of you today…I was playing with Club and applied it on my lid with a wet brush. Have you tried this yet? It looks amazing.
Vanessa says
Your spaghetti in “meat” sauce — oh man, that sounds great!
I’m hungry now.
Karen says
I had the leftovers for lunch! They were even better the day after.
I’ll post pics and a recipe soon. 🙂
Chelsea says
El Hubs is so nice
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
Those look nice and creamy, but its a shame about the measly shade selection
Phyrra says
I wonder if Eunice would work for undereye circles.
Jenn Staz says
haha i love the dialogue. and those TJ’s meatless meatballs are my fave! not only are they vegetarian, they’re vegan. speaking of which, I will add them to my shopping list.. it’s been too long.
Kiss & Make-up says
What a cute story, hehe. Not too sure about the pencil concealer though. I prefer cream.
Marina says
That is such a cute story 🙂 You make a great couple! As for the concealers, I use Eunice for my under-eye circles.
NeenaJ says
It’s not PMS. The Velveteen Rabbit threw me into hysterics as a child and I’ve never picked it up again. Someone bought a copy for my son and I told my husband that he has to be the one to read it – and only if I’m not within earshot. I just can’t take it.
Tor says
You guys are adorable! Love the packaging on the concealers, too. 🙂
artemis says
OMG, what a sweet husband. you are sweet too, so it’s a perfect couple
Julie says
I think it’s great that the shades are light. Brands always make concealers and foundations way too dark for pale girls, good for us this time.
