Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipgloss in Pink Protect
Sweet holy hydration, Batman! According to the folks at Rimmel, their new Moisture Renew Lipglosses ($6 each; available in 14 shades) reduce dryness up to 95%. That’s a lotta hydration, and lawd knows my lips need it, but seriously, how do they come up with these numbers? Why not say 97%? And doesn’t “up to 95%” also include zero? But I digress…
Getting down to brass tacks, I do think Renew, which I’ve tried in Pink Protect, feels fantastic on my lips. Its light and smooth non-sticky texture certainly doesn’t dry out my lips, and that’s a definite plus.
Pink Protect
The new line launched earlier this spring on the heels of last year’s fantastic Moisture Renew Lipsticks. Like those lippies, these catch and reflect sunlight like my favorite pair of aviator sunglasses, and with the addition of SPF 15, they’re not a bad deal for $6 each (although I do think they have quite a bit of competition at that price point).
Being glosses, they don’t last nearly as long as the lipsticks do; I only get about an hour of wear time from them, and that’s not even long for a gloss.
I’m not crazy about the scent and flavor either, which reminds me of plastic flowers. Eww…
Moisture Renew Lipgloss does get points for a comfy texture and the inclusion of SPF 15, but as far as drugstore glosses go, I think I prefer Sally Hansen’s 12-Hour Lip Treatments.
PRICE: $6
AVAILABILITY: At drugstores, Ulta and online

This one’s for my fellow pet lovahs
Good day, friend. 🙂 How was your evening? After dinner (improv soup with veggie broth, chopped garlic, basil, brown rice, spinach, broccoli, tomatoes and carrots), I watched the new ep of Being Human and read until midnight. Then, I spent the remainder of my night tossing and turning. Yay, insomnia…
Tabs, of course, was thrilled, because it meant he had company for the evening (it was nothin’ but a West Coast party!)
Speaking of Tabs, check out Cat Vs. Human when you get a chance. Reader Ana sent me a link to it last weekend. HELLA FUNNY! It’s a blog run by a gal named Yasmine who draws cartoons about her pets (she has three cats and a dog).
You have a great Tuesday, okay? 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Nina says
oh i almost bought this when i was at walgreens @ lunch …. i guess im glad i didnt! 🙂
Karen says
Get thee some Sally Hansen Gloss, my friend!
What didja have for lunch? I’m still debating…
Nina says
i had a turkey sammich here in my desk! i have a couple of those sally hansen gloses here in my desk too. 😀
Karen says
That sounds yummy. I might have to make one for lunch! And yay… when I’m feeling like a pick me up, those Sally glosses hit the spot. 🙂
Nina says
i needed a little pick me up myself – hence the trip to walgreens! 🙂
Karen says
BTW, thank you for the lunch inspiration. I ended up going with a turkey sandwich, baked fake Cheeetos from Trader Joe’s and a grapefruit. Nom nom!
Chanelle says
Ooh! I love Being Human! Only the British version, though. Are you watching the British version or the American?
Karen says
Hi Chanelle,
I’m watching the American version on SyFy. I’ve caught a few of the British ones and most of it went over my head…
Trisha says
Oh man, only an hour of wear time? That’s too bad…
Karen says
Yeah, I know! 🙁
Tally says
Hey Karen!
I actually bought this recently and really love it! I am an inexperienced gloss girl – they are sticky, I never find the right shade, and not really moisturizing – however I love this gloss! Other fair ladies would love 105 – pink benefit. I agree with you on the smell, and the wear time isn’t great, but I really love this gloss! Moisturizing, good color, feels good on lips, and best of all, cheap! Sorry you didn’t love it as much as I did!
Karen says
Hi Tally,
Thanks for the rec for the pale gals. 🙂 Those are always welcome here!

I’m glad Tabs was able to party!
Sadly, Aisha has kidney failure 🙁 🙁 :(. She’s a couple months shy of 18, so it’s not the most surprising thing in the world, but it’s still really sad. The good news is that she’s not in pain. She snuggles with me a lot — she spent a good hour last night with her head on my stomach, lol — and when I pet her, she purrs and rolls around happily. Tigger has been sitting with her, too. We’ve got an on call vet visiting her and he’ll be here any moment now. I hope he has something good to say!
Karen says
Hi Instant Karma,
I’m so sorry to hear about Aisha. 🙁 I’m going to keep my fingers crossed and hope the vet has good news for you and your fur family. Tabs and I sending you hugs!
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Sadly, it was bad news. She kept coughing up blood and it wasn’t clotting anymore, so she was going to get worse and worse and be in more and more discomfort. She was a lot more out of it today than in the previous few days. Before today, she was smiling all the time, and would smile even more when I pet her. Today, she wouldn’t smile until I snuggled with her.
The vet had to put her to sleep. I had my freak out time, but I’m feeling better right now. When she lost consciousness, I was petting her, so she ended up going out smiling. That’s the best way to go.
Karen says
Oh, kitty. 🙁 I’m really sorry, hon. I’ve lost pets before and know it hurts. My heart goes out to you.
Annabella Freeman says
I know what it’s like to lose a beloved pet they are your family. Hugs and god bless you x
Fieran says
I’m so sorry to hear about Aisha. At least she’s in a better place now as all cats go to heaven. It’s good she’s not in pain anymore. When humans are in pain we know how to tell what hurts but cute little cats can’t tell that it hurts. So it’s a good thing that she’s at peace. -hug-

Thanks, guys :). I really appreciate your thoughts and kind words. You’re all so sweet!
She was a wonderful cat. When my family went looking for a cat to adopt, most of the other kittens were a bit afraid of me because I was a loud, obnoxious kid (this was the summer before I turned seven). However, this one little runt of seven was different. The woman showing us the cats said that Aisha was extraordinarily shy, but nonetheless, this tiny kitten crept out of the corner she was hiding in to walk up to me. When I reached out to pet her, she immediately started purring, loud as a lawnmower. Needless to say, I convinced my parents to let her come home with us, and she’s had a long (she would’ve been 18 on May 31st) and very happy life ever since.
She was very affectionate and hilariously eccentric. She didn’t meow: she would only ack, shriek or howl at the moon. Every time she drank water, she would perform this elaborate ritual that involved scratching at the bowl and dancing around it. Perhaps she was praising it, lol. She had a special walk for when she was trying to steal her brother’s food. She’d get as low to the ground as possible and slink up to the bowl. It may have made her slightly harder to see, but it also meant that as soon as we spotted that walk, we knew EXACTLY what she was doing. She would stare intently at the television during very particular shows. The food shows were understandable, but she had a fixation on all things Law and Order. Seriously, the original, SVU, UK — she would perk up as soon as she heard the “DONK DONK” of the chimes. One of her favorite foods was oatmeal.
I’m really sad that she’s gone, but I’m glad I got to share so much time with her. Thanks again for all of your support :). The people on this blog are the best!

Ah, I wanted to respond to everyone personally, but the commenting mechanism won’t let me do so directly for two of you!
Annabella, yes, pets are definitely family. Since I got Aisha when I was so young, I always viewed her as my little, fuzzy sister :). Thank you for your kind words.
Fieran, I struggled with wondering what to do when she got sick because of exactly what you said — pets can’t directly tell us whether something hurts, or whether they’re unhappy. However, she was the kind of kitty who always had a smile on her face (well, not at the vet…), so when she suddenly wasn’t smiling on Tuesday, I could tell she felt a lot worse than she had the previous day. I have to admit, though, after the vet left, I briefly felt like a bad person for making the decision that I did, but I’ve come to peace with it now. I wouldn’t want my little girl to suffer, and, as you said, I’m glad to know she’s at peace. Thank you 🙂

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. You have my prayers.
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Thank you, original L (lol, I used to go by L on this site until I saw one of your comments a while ago…didn’t want Karen to get confused!). 🙂
Aleatha Terrell says
🙁 Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope you feel better soon.
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Thank you! I miss her terribly (and so does her brother, Tigger), but I’m taking it one day at a time. I’m just glad I got to spend so much time with her :).
Kelly says
I am so sorry to hear about your loss, I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. 🙁
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Thank you. It is hard — for both me and her brother, Tigger — but we’re dealing the best we can. Luckily, I think kitty snuggles make both of us feel better. 🙂
Barbara says
So sorry for your loss.
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Thank you 🙂
Catherine says
*big hugs* So sorry for your loss. It sounds like you and your family gave Aisha a wonderful life and that she passed away peacefully with the person who loved her most. =)
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Thank you. I feel very lucky that she was able to be with us for so long, and I’m glad to know that she is no longer suffering. Tigger and I miss her terribly, but we’re cheering each other up with the help of kitty snuggles, catnip, and a laser pointer. 🙂
Lucie says
Though I didn’t know Aisha, it’s very sad hearing this. So so so sorry for your loss. I know how devastating losing a kitty can be. It sounds like she had a long and beautiful life. I’m sure she wouldn’t want you to be sad, feel better soon hun. <3
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Thank you! She did have a long, happy, and until the very end, quite healthy life. I’m trying to focus on that 🙂
Sarah says
I’m so sorry to hear about Aisha. I teared up at your memories. She sounds like such a fun and lovable cat. I hope you and Tigger can keep each other company.
Instant Karma (formerly L) says
Thank you! She really was a sweetheart :).
Tigger clearly misses his sister, but I’ve been staying home as much as I can to play with him to try to make him a little less sad. I hope it’s working! I’m thinking of buying him a little cat grass or a new toy to boost his spirits.
Meghan says
I have a coupon for some Rimmel Products and I was thinking about trying these out.. instead I may just try out their foundation.. hmm? Thanks for the post Karen!
Karen says
Hi Meghan,
Have you tried their Renew Lipsticks? They’re actually really great.
gio says
I like the shade but on hour of wear is pretty bad…
Karen says
I know. Even if it’s $6, it really should last longer.
Kim says
That’s a shame about the Rimmel gloss. At least it looks pretty!! And I’d probably lick mine off in less than an hour anyway! 🙂
I’m so sorry about your insomnia. That would absolutely kill me. If I get less than 8 hours consistently, I’m not very nice to be around. I haven’t checked out the SyFy Being Human yet, but Netflixed the BBC version and really like those so far. Of course, 6 months of bed rest watching BBC America and the Food Network has given me some preferences! 🙂
Karen says
I tried watching the British version but had a hard time getting into it. I think all the cultural references just went over my head.
OOH! Since you’re a BBC junkie I need to know — do you watch Torchwood?
Kim says
I’m sure I’m missing a ton of the references too, but I might be overlooking it while gazing at Aidan Turner. 🙂 It’s funny because the Hubs rarely watches anything like that with me and he’s not actually sitting through all of them but he does say “what did I miss?” so he can get the synopsis.
I have not seen Torchwood but will definitely check it out. My big BBC days were about 8 years ago, so I’m way behind. The only things I ever watch these days are hockey and whatever I Netflix. Oooh, and I see Torchwood is Instant, so I’ll get on that. 🙂
Karen says
Give it a go. It took me a few episodes to get into it, but I ended up really liking the series. I heard a long time ago that they were adapting the show for a US audience; dunno if that’s still in the works.
Oh, and thanks for giving me the excuse to google Aiden Turner! 😀
Kim says
I definitely will – and you’re welcome! He has that great Irish accent on the show too. And I’m a sucker for a good accent. Luckily for me, he also has quite a bit of chest hair, so that helps to dampen the crush. 🙂
Amber says
Oof, I had a hard time falling asleep last night, too. Tonight I’m taking some Benadryl!
Karen says
Ahh, that’s good stuff. I take it when I’m desperate… I can’t handle the Benadryl hangover in the morning. I hope you sleep well tonight!
Tracy says
I was caught up 2 weekends ago, and now I’m behind again in Being Human! I have the next few days off including the weekend, so I will get caught up fast here so we can dish! So far I’m liking it.
Karen says
Oh, it’s getting DRAMA FOR YOUR MOMMA. Seriously, please catch up so we can dish!
Appu says
I hate the plastic flower smell you’re talking about. Some L’Oreal lipsticks have that kinda smell too! I’ve been having a real hard time sleeping these days. Its so tiring and annoying the next day. I MUST try some Chamomile tea!
Karen says
Chamomile is good. Sleepytime is also great too!
Sandy says
karen! i love your blog! please if you could tell me what blush you are wearing with this review? you look so fresh and glowy!
Karen says
Hi Sandy,
Thank you! 🙂 The color I’m wearing in the pics above is the fantastic Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Natural Beauty. Here’s a review along with pictures and swatches:
Color Me Glad About Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush
lo says
Yeahhh… I’m not too keen on the smell, either. I got it in Fuchsia Therapy, which is really bright and pretty, but I don’t get much more than 2 hours from it, either. I’m thinking maybe layered over a lipliner? I love the color too much to give up on it!
Karen says
Hi Lo,
If you love the color it might be worth trying to find a lip liner to go with it. The Rimmel 1000 Kisses ones are great, and they’re super affordable too.
Tiffany says
eww, the scent is a deal breaker for me! I am way picky about my lipgloss scents!
Karen says
Yeah, NOT into the scent at all. 🙁
Silva says
I like the color!
Great foto’s/pictures at the end 🙂

Thanks!
