Sometimes summer makes it hard to commit to fall makeup designed to conjure thoughts of autumn leaves, wool scarves and boots, despite the flourish of fall collections whispering sweet nothings in our ears (Chanel, Urban Decay, Dior!).
To all the beauty companies out there, I’m not quite ready to shift my makeup gears yet, so please bring on more summery brights! 🙂
Like these five new Lasting Finish nail shades from Rimmel…
The vibrant $4 colors hail from their 32-piece Lasting Finish Pro Nail Enamel line.
I think they’re notable for the colors, of course, and the wide applicator brush that covers most of the nail and thus speeds application. I also dig the thin, easy-to-apply texture.
But I do have some reservations…
The bottles claim they last up to 10 days on nails, but I start seeing small chips along the edges of my fingernails after four and larger chips at the base of the nail after six (and that’s with my regular base coat and two layers of polish).
Terrible? Not at all, but it may not live up to the “Lasting” part in the name.
And although they dry to a flatter finish than I’d like (gimme, gimme shine!), that’s easily fixed with a top coat.
All in all, I think the wide range of colors, easy application, great price and widespread availability make these Lasting Finish Pro Nail Enamels a pretty good deal. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
Are you considering any of these shades?

P.S. Happy hump day! 🙂

OMG! That violet metal might be just what I’m looking for, it matches the dress I’m wearing to a wedding. Going to check it out now!
Sarah says
Nyc (the drugstore brand) Has a color EXACTLY like that, I’m looking at it right now. It’s called Purple Pizzazz Frost. It has all the same reflects of blue that the Rimmel one does. It seems like exact same nailpolish colorwise.
Nina says
I love Rimmel polishes 🙂 Electric Pink looks really pretty but does it have shimmer? If not, I can give it a try. Btw, I really like that you wrote their name right beside them, it gives some kinda uniqueness to the picture. Happy hump day too!
Vanessa H says
So pretty! 4 days is ok with me, I usually change my nail color every 3-4 :-). I love the price too, especially with my little (18 and 20 year old little) sisters that take polish and don’t take care of it so it gets gloopy a lot earlier than if I was the only one using it lol.
Happy Wednesday!
Rachael says
I think I’m gonna have to treat myself to that violet sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.
On a related note, Tabs got mentioned in the results of BellaSugar’s nail polish or drug slang quiz! Your kitty is getting famous. 🙂

I’m loving the lycra pro this is my notd with royal rose…http://confessionsofamakeaholic.blogspot.com/2010/08/notd-and-bargain-rimmel-lycra-pro-in.html
I’m curious about trying out this nail polishes too!
Glosslizard says
I haven’t used a Rimmel polish since I tried one of their rapid-dry formulas (a year or two ago) and it chipped within hours! I might try again with that pretty Marine Blue!
Y’know, it’s funny. I always get in the mood for fall early, probably because around here we have better summer weather in October than in August! 😛
Gina says
I’m wearing Marine Blue right now! I bought it after you posted pictures of the polishes a few weeks ago. It’s an absolutely beautiful color, and it only took 2 coats to make it opaque. I got tons of compliments on it =]
aziajs says
I have Violet Metal and I love it. So beautiful. Dimensional color and they apply very easily. I’ll have to pick up Electric Pink and Sunset Orange – they look gorgeous!
Karen says
Sunset Orange is cool… it’s almost like a jelly!
Hana Berlin says
I love me some new nail polish… I think i’m gonna rock the Violet Metal… It looks really pretty!!!
Karen says
That color’s on my toes right now!
Nina says
happyhumpday! 🙂
Karen says
Same to you too! Is it Friday yet?!
Holly says
These look absolutely gorgeous! Only problem is that even though Rimmel is an English brand, these polishes aren’t available in the UK or in Ireland, which is where I live. So sad 🙁
Karen says
That’s a bummer. Maybe you can find them somewhere online that ships out to where you live?
snoopysteph says
Love!! Going to have to pick up Marine Blue.
Karen says
That shade looks great on fingers!
Kim says
These are very bright and fun! It’s good to know that they have a thinner texture too, which is what I prefer. I’ve never tried Rimmell and will have to pick up a bottle. Of all the polishes I have, I use L’Oreal’s “I Pink I’m in Love” most often, but it’s probably way too sheer (and boring) for most people. 🙂
I’m glad you had a polish post though because I’ve been looking at some Minx designs online this afternoon and they are just the coolest things. I checked your back posts and saw a review from 2009 by a fellow blogger, which was really positive. Have you ever had a chance to try them? I’m in the boonies, so it’s unlikely I’ll find a nearby salon who does them, but I do think they’re adorable!!!
Karen says
No, I’ve never tried it, but I’ve wanted to (just haven’t gotten around to it). Have you seen the at-home version by OPI at Sephora?

Kim says
I saw your note on it a while back but didn’t see them at the store when I was there. I think they’d be pretty cool too – and they didn’t seem like they’d be too hard to apply. I would have thought we’d be seeing some drug store versions too, but maybe it’s too soon. The nail art pens are starting to show up (Sally Beauty, etc) and those are pretty fun and easy to use.

Electric Pink and Marine Blue look gorgeous!
Karen says
Love both those colors. 🙂
House of Accessories says
Marine Blue and Violet Metal are calling my name!
Karen says
You should answer the call! 🙂
DoDe says
Thanks Karen. Those are pretty. I cant seem to stop thinking about getting a Shellac mani. Would you consider reviewing CND shellac? I would love your thoughts
Karen says
Hi DoDe,
Hmm, I just did some reading on that product and it seems really neat. The nearest salon that offers it is in SF… I’ll see if I can pop into the city and grab and mani soon!
Agnes says
Fun!! i had this in steel grey and i loveeed it because of the wide brush! now im thinking of getting marine blue and electric pink!! soooo prerttty 😀
Karen says
The wide brush is all kinds of awesome. Doesn’t it help speed up the process?
Phyrra says
I have Violet Metal and love it. I keep forgetting to pick up Marine Blue. Great swatches.
Karen says
I’m wearing Violet Metal on my toes right now. 🙂
Kymberlee says
I usually do something light and neutral for my fingers and leave the brights for my toes. My fave color of those is the Electric Pink.
How do you paint your nails to look so perfect? I always get polish on my cuticles!
Karen says
I’m right handed so it’s easier to swatch the colors on my left. My right hand = not so neat. 🙂
I’ve also been applying polish since I was 13… so that’s a lot of years of practice, LOL!
Marina says
I love Marine Blue: both colour and name 🙂
Karen says
Hee! That color was made for you. 🙂
Lindsay says
I’m glad you reviewed these. I’d been looking at them but hadnt bought them because I hadnt heard anything on them yet. I may go back and buy the greyish color.
Karen says
They’re really nice! I think you’ll like the extra-wide brush.
Do you have a good base/top coat?
Maya says
Wow, love Marine Blue and Electric Pink. I really hope they’ll have them here in Europe..
AshBash says
i’d consider sunset orange. i really havent been wearing much polish this summer though.
Terri says
Sunset Orange and Electric Pink are both gorgeous! I might have to check these out…
marisol says
I like Violet Metal & Marine Blue a lot.
Sarah says
I have Steel gray and Posh Pink already. I didn’t notice anything special or unspecial about them, its just nailpolish. All nailpolish chips on me no matter what base or top coat I use. Seche vite chips even faster.
Suzanne says
what do you use as your standard base coat, Karen? I’ve been trying the Essie one and I think it might be godawful 🙁 I like the Sally Hansen 4 in 1 one, but the bottle is a MASSIVE leaker and I spend all my time extracting gooey piles of half hardened nail polish from the bottom of my nail polish basket. help plz?
Karen says
Hi Suzanne,
I go back and forth between a few brands: Essie First Base Coat, Lippmann Collection Ridge Filling Base Coat and Zoya’s Anchor Base Coat. I like them all!
Advah says
I got a Rimmel nailpolish (the 60 secs one I think) a few month ago and was highly unimpressed – the colours are beautiful (mine’s cherry!) but at the end of the day the one or two coats had chipped pretty badly at the end of the first day. Granted I never apply any base or top coat (LAZY) but I don’t get that with most of my other nailpolishes.
And I won’t mention the amount of pink streaks my boss finds on his meeting papers when I wear it, it’s like I’m drawing with my fingers!
kali says
The polishes look so great on you!
Myr says
I have this Rimmel polish in Steel Grey and it is a dupe for OPI’s Metro Chic.
Stavroula Plag says
Beautiful shades, especially the blue one! 🙂 Thanks Karen! 😉
