Heya, ladies. How was your day? What was the highlight of your Friday?
I’ve been sort of out of it today… I spent way too much time in Photoshop trying to design those pink and green thumbs for the MAC Naked Honey Review Roundup post this afternoon.
Time flies when you’re having fun with Photoshop.
Now I’m just browsing the web, looking for hair tips to create voluminous, *va-va-va-voom!* Victoria’s Secret hair.
Ever since my last haircut, I’ve been wanting to utilize these long layers for something dramatic.
Unfortch, there’s a fine line between good-looking big ass hair and hot mess hair.
Luckily for those of us obsessed with big hair, there’s Redken’s Layer Lift Spray Gel ($15), a non-aerosol, volumizing spray with a summery, lemon scent that fades in minutes.
Layer Lift adds body while providing hold, enhancing shine and packing frizz-fighting power.
To use it I spray enough on wet hair to lightly coat the top layers and ends.
The product doesn’t feel goopy or sticky like most tube gels, and that’s nice. Perhaps because of it, the pump doesn’t clog, so it’s always ready to apply in a jiffy.
Once dry, my hair rocks mad volume all the way from mid-shaft to the ends, and because Layer Lift also helps to keep frizz under control, my mane avoids looking like a hot mess.
The stuff would be my new hair stylin’ crush if it weren’t for the price…
The 5.7-oz bottle seems small for $15, and I’m going through it quickly. After only two weeks, I’ve used about a third, but I bet that has something to do with the length of my hair. If you have shorter and/or thinner hair, you may be able to use less.
Redken Layer Lift Spray Gel
Price: $15 for a 5.7-oz spray bottle
Use: A frizz-fighting, shine-enhancing, volumizing spray gel
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+
You might like Redken Layer Lift Spray Gel if…
- …you want big hair with lots of volume,
- …you don’t mind paying a premium for hair care products,
- …you’re looking for a one-stop-shop volumizing gel.
Here comes the weekend!
Woot, woot, we made it to the weekend! Do you have any plans?
Tomorrow is Nordstrom’s Cosmetics Summer Trend Show in SF. I’ll be there with my trusty camera and notebook, of course, trying to figure out what’s what.
Enjoy the rest of your Friday night. Tabs says “Mmmrow!” 🙂

We just watched the Detroit Red Wings lose the Stanley Cup. Bummer.
Highlight of my day was getting my hair highlighted and flat ironed for the first time ever. I love my hair today!
I was proud today because went to Sephora and didn’t buy anything for myself. Amazing restraint. I was tempted to pick up Benefit’s Posie based on your review.
Have a good weekend.

Karen, I’m going up to SF this weekend!!!!!!!!

How would this product work for girls that want voluminous straightened hair? Just put it on wet hair and then blow dry/flat iron as usual, or can I put it on dry hair, too?

Hey Karen! This product sounds great. My mom & I were just talking yesterday about how we are both still on the search for a good volumizing styling product. We both have pretty short hair but that makes us crave the volume more so it doesn’t sit flat on our heads like boy hair & instead works the texture & layers we have. Redken products usually are great so I’m going to have to try this one out for sure.
Question though, is it kind of like a root spray as well? Can we apply it down to the roots & work it to our ends & then blow dry?
Thanks Karen!!

You look soooooo pretty in that picture! I love your hair like that too. I wish my waves behaved as well as yours do (they always seem to fling out at weird angles, can’t get it to look decent).

Oh, also, I’ve been meaning to ask you: what kind of camera do you use? Your pictures always show so much detail and are so great. I can never get my camera to take pictures like that. My boyfriend and I are going to Spain in October and we want we want a new camera
We actually hadn’t even planned on going abroad until we found this amazing deal online (that’s now unfortunately no longer going on). Our plane tickets are only $240 each for roundtrip from Boston to Madrid and back! It was the biggest impulsive buy I’ve ever had!

I busted up laughing at the pic of Jack Black and the guy from Year One. That movie is on my list, I can’t wait.
This stuff sounds good but expensive.
