Despite the probably Horror movie-influenced fact that the “Eye Polish” in PUR Eye Polish cream shadow makes me think of somebody spit-shining my eyeballs, these $26 cream shadows aren’t sinister at all.
They’re actually pretty darned rad!
I mentioned one of of the shades, shimmery, smoky golden olive Caviar in my gold and olive Fall-Tastic Face of the Day last week. Caviar is one of the six shades, all of which work great as bases, as primers for powder shadows or all by their lonesome as traditional cream shadows.
They vary in terms of shimmer, with some being more pearlescent and less metallic than others. Caviar clocks in at “glittery to the extreme.”
Among the other shades are bronzed opalescent Suede; shimmery, plummy fuchsia Velvet; shimmery champagne apricot Silk; pearlescent pale pink Satin and pearlescent champagne Cashmere.
Now, just because these come in little pots doesn’t mean they’re as dense as MAC Paint Pots or as spongy as the Chanel Illusion D’Ombres. They have an usual formula the likes of which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. It’s thinner than usual…almost like a liquid shadow, but not quite.
Picture a very thin, runny mousse.
And, yes, I suggest keeping yo’ digits on hand (HAHAHA, LAME PUN ALERT!), because the silicone applicator they come with? — almost useless. The few times I used it, the product went on patchy and uneven.
I much prefer to pat a little on my lids with a finger (they’re SUPER pigmented), and then use a fluffy domed eyeshadow brush like the MAC 217 to QUICKLY blur the edges.
Um…did I say quickly?
Because I should have.
I should also say it again: QUICKLY. Because these set in seconds. Literally. Like 30-40 of them, so act fast. No dilly-dallying. When I sit down to use these, I always have my brush at the ready.
Applied properly, these last at least eight or nine hours for me without a primer (and without creasing).
That’s good stuff, homie. 🙂
As a note for my mature makeup-lovin’ ladies, since these are VERY shiny, you may want to keep them low on your lids and avoid drawing them too high up into the crease, where they could emphasize fine lines. If you do accidentally bring them too far up and see a lot of fine-line action, load your favorite domed brush with a coordinating matte, and sweep that ish into the crease.
But if you don’t care about that and just want to go for it and take these up all the way from lash line to brow bone, shoot, girl, go for that molten metallic marvelousness! I’m sure you’ll look pretty damn incredible.
Loving these right meow! — and I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that PUR releases a matte version.
If these catch yo’ fancy, you can find them now at Ulta stores and online.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

They are all beautiful shades but Cashmere calls my name, Suede & Velvet are both equally gorgeous.
Karen says
Hi Elizabeth,
I hope you give these a go! I think you’ll really like them. 🙂
Tulipthecat says
I have one of them (I think it’s silk) and I really love it. I don’t need a primer underneath and I really like glitter. I need to get Velvet too. Now I know what I’m going to buy with my 20% off ULTA coupon.
Karen says
Velvet would look great on you! Do you have a warm matte reddish brown eyeshadow, like MAC Saddle or Texture? Both look really pretty with Velvet.
Tabs says hi! He’s chillin’ on my arm as I’m typing, LOL!
Agata says
I need Caviar and Velvet! These are absolutely gorgeous! I think I am going to use my 20% off Ulta coupon on these, just like Tulipthecat!
Karen says
That’s a good idea! I will probably use mine on dry shampoo — I’m so boring, LOL! I finished my bottle of Living Proof and I’m hurting!
Chelsea says
So pretty! My eyes are so sensitive right now, this sounds good!
Karen says
I think you’ll like it! I was able to wear the purple shade and my eyes didn’t water AT ALL. (And they always water when I wear purples.) Have you decided on what costume to wear to your work party?
Chelsea says
I didn’t end up having time to plan anything special with Quincy’s vet visits and homework, so fairy or nothing! QB got some meds from the vet, but we won’t find out until he finishes the course whether it’s that or something more chronic (since he is an old man bunny). He’s in great spirits though, doesn’t seem to know anything is wrong!
Karen says
I’m glad that he seems to be upbeat and perky. Keeping my paws crossed that he’s ok. And yay for old man bunnies! 🙂
Chelsea says
He appreciates the warm thoughts, and sends back some bunny kisses!
jessica says
These look interesting. I like them more on your eyes than the swatches. Really great look Karen. <3
Karen says
Thanks, Jessica. What’s cool about it was it was SO easy and quick to do. I did the purple shade on the lid, buffed out the edges, and then ran a warm reddish brown into the crease. That was it!
Ashleigh says
I love me a good cream shadow, and these look promising! They also look like they stole the Stila watercolor blush packaging, haha. I just got one of those (late to the bandwagon) and love it!
Karen says
Hi Ashleigh,
I’m more of a powder blush gal but I’ve heard enough good things about that Stila blush to be tempted.
Did you ever get the chance to test out the Lancome cushion compact foundation? I hope you found a shade that works for your skin!
Ashleigh says
Hi Karen!
The Stila watercolor blush left me impressed, but I do like cream formulas. It was very dewy and fresh-looking.
Not yet! It’s out of stock at my nearby Ulta, none of the Sephoras near me carry it, and so I’m going to have to hunt it down 🙂 Sooooon!
Karen says
Let me know! I really like the Amore Pacific one that I tried but I’ve got to return it. The color is too peachy, sigh!
Kwmechelle says
I wonder if these would also make good cream liners? Cashmere, Silk, & Satin really appeal to me. 🙂
Karen says
I haven’t tried that yet but I think you they’d work for that! I bet you they’d look like a liquid liner if you used a very thin angled brush to apply!
Kwmechelle says
I bought a thin angled Japanese brush from Ulta & it’s the best $5 brush I’ve ever bought. The quick drying power of these may make for stellar wear time. You always introduce me to great products. I’ll look these up when I’m at Ulta next. ☺️
Karen says
Ooh, is that brush from the Japonesque line? I’ve used their brush cleaner but never tried their brushes.
I really hope you like this! I think it’s such a hidden gem. 🙂
Kwmechelle says
Yes! I was too lazy to actually get the brush to look at it. Still battling a cold. Sad face. A trip to Ulta is in order to remedy it. It won’t take away my cold but I’ll feel better. ?
Karen says
I hope that you get well soon so that you can have fun with the kiddos. Are you feeling better today? *crosses fingers and pours you a hot cup of tea*
Alex says
So innovative! Silk and Satin are beautiful! These should have come out during the summer due to their texture and application.
CrystalCandy says
Ohhh yes, I need these in my life! Velvet and Suede, come to mama!
Kiss & Make-up says
I usually don’t like products that come with so many ‘instructions’ because first thing in the morning I’m pretty prone to messing things up if they’re too complicated, but I do like the colors a lot.
LindaLibraLoca says
A great matte version would be very much appreciated.
Fancie says
I’ve been seeing these everywhere lately and they’ve got me curious. Silk, Suede and Velvet are absolutely gorgeous so I’ll definitely be heading to Ulta soon to swatch these babies myself. I just might need one!
MonicaP says
These are so pretty ! I love this innovative approach to makeup. You know different instead of the same old powder eye shadow.
Monica.
Lulubelle says
Suede arrived this morning and is waiting in it’s box for me to hurry up and get home!
Erin says
Those look pretty cool! I love the colors.
Amanda says
That is a GREAT color on you Karen!
Ann says
Omg, loving Suede and Velvet – I think I definitely need to try these two 🙂
Karen says
I hope you like them, Ann! Velvet’s one of my faves. 🙂
Katherine T. says
Suede and Velvet are calling me!
