Hey, buddy! Another beautiful fall morning here in the Bay Area. I went to take the trash out this morning, and when I exhaled I actually saw my breath in the air. It’s only a matter of time before it gets really cold again (well, cold for this part of California, which I know is not really that cold compared to other parts of the country, but we’re weather wusses here).
Hopefully the new Chanel Harmonie Du Soir quad will keep me warm… Not so much physically warm, but its four colors (taupe, gold, pink and plum) have been firing me up. Lately they’re all I’ve been wanting to wear.
Harmonie’s formal name reads like a champion race horse: “Regard Signe De Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in Harmonie Du Soir,” and at $65, it’s priced like a thoroughbred, too.
There’s really no way around the fact that this is one expensive piece of makeup, but as hard core Chanel-o-philes already know, the price premium is nothing new from the line. This palette does include a special quilted design on the pan, though, which makes it seem a little more exclusive.
Oh, and it would make such a wonderful gift! Imagine opening it up on Christmas morning… [SWOON!] I’d need a fainting couch.
The Chanel Harmonie du Soir Quad 60-second overview…
- Finish: One of my favorite things about this quad! It’s shimmery without being frosty. Wearing it, I feel all delicate and glowing, like I’m being illuminated by candlelight and photographed using a soft focus lens. It plays nicely with my fine lines, even as the day wears on, just as the formula itself never appear heavy or thick.
- Pigment: I’d characterize each of the colors as “just shy of full coverage.” Guys/gals who love saturated pigments may want to build them up in layers, but I kinda love how Chanel dialed back the opacity. I think it makes these extremely easy to blend and gives me more control over how much color I apply on my eyes.
- Blending: Another big plus for this quad. Easy, seamless color transitions — no elbow grease required. And no shadow fallout!
- Wear time: How about damn good? Maybe even epic. The other day I wore the colors in the quad for 12 hours. In that time they hardly creased at all, and the colors had faded only a teeny, tiny bit by the end of the day.
So, yeah. Love this! It’s my favorite piece from the Eclats du Soir de Chanel holiday collection so far, and a home run for Chanel.
A really, really expensive home run. Price is the only thing that keeps it from being a grand slam.
PRICE: $65
AVAILABILITY: Coming next month to Chanel stores and chanel.com

MAC Marilyn Monroe is up!
Morning and happy Thursday! Just a quick note about the new MAC Marilyn Monroe collection — it’s online now at maccosmetics.com, and not surprisingly, many of the pieces are already sold out! I should have more pics, thoughts and swatches to share in the coming days.
In other news, I’m staring at a cup of coffee that I know I shouldn’t have (because I’ve already had enough).
Yeah…when has that ever stopped me before? 🙂
Have a good one today. We’re almost to Friday.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

This is beautiful! I especially like the taupe (of course).
Karen says
Hi Emi,
I love the taupe, too. 🙂

Hey Karen! That Chanel quad is so beautiful and so expensive! haha! I’m wondering how it’ll look on us fair-skin ladies. Looks perfect on you!
Karen says
Hi Soo Jin,
When I get the chance I’ll try to swatch it on El Hub — he’s a NW20. Hopefully tonight if there’s still good light when he gets home!
Brooke @ BlushingNoir says

Ahhh, gorgeous! I was secretly hoping it was rubbish so that I wouldn’t want it!

Karen says
Hi Gio,
Thank you!
Kim says
Oh, this is just cruel. 🙂 It’s been a cray-cray week and I told myself that I was absolutely going to get over here today, no matter what. Naturally the first product up is the one I’m trying not to think about. HAHA! The quad is lovely. And I still don’t need it. I know, keep telling myself that!
Karen says
Dude…this is really, REALLY beautiful quad. You have to swatch it at the very least. For serious!
Kim says
You’re killing me. 🙂 Maybe next week when I’m in Seattle, though I’m hoping something prevents me from making it to a Chanel counter. Thank goodness, Sephora won’t have it!
Kim says
Oh, I never thought a reading fail would make me happy, but I just realized this won’t be out until next month. Darn. 😉
Rainy Days & Lattes says
You are looking radiant and lovely as always, K! 🙂
Karen says
Thanks hon! Hope you’re having a lovely day so far.
Aelyn says
So gorgeous, love the way you blended out those eye shadows!
Karen says
Thanks, Aelyn! Will you be checking this out when it hits counters next month?
Carrie says
Omg, I love how you applied the gold to the bottom of the eye! These colors look even better on than they do in the compact. I really want!
Karen says
Hi Carrie,
Thanks! Gold on the lower lash line is an easy way to brighten up the eyes. Try it with a shadow or a liner sometime.
Are you a Chanel fan, btw?
Nadege says
Simply beautiful!
Karen says
Hi Nadege,
Yeah, I love this quad too! Are you excited for this collection?
Cindy (Prime Beauty) says
So pretty! I like that the shades come across softer. I’m a bot worried about the pinky plum color making me look bruised though. I once declared I wouldn’t pay over $50 for an eye shadow palette. Once way the key word there.
Karen says
LOL, Cindy! You know, I was worried about the plum shade looking funky on me, too, but it’s actually really wearable. There’s very little red in it, which I think makes it easier to wear.
Trina J says
Haven’t been to your blog in a bit, but I love the new look! Oh and I’m loving the Harmonie du Soir Quadra Eye Shadow palette…this would be a great for a gala or evening event. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Sonya says
Gah, so beautiful! Great look too!
Eboney M says
Are the gold and brown colors similar to the ones in the topkapi quad? Is the quality similar to topkapi as well?
Eboney M says
I meant gold and taupe sorry bout that.
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
Damn it! There doesn’t seem like there’s any way around it–I NEED this eyeshadow quad!!
Tammy says
So absolutely gorgeous!!

Tiffanie says
