Over the course of many merry Christmases and happy New Years, I’ve been guilty of myriad makeup faux pas, a few of which were regrettably caught on film (the horror!). And never mind the oversized twinkling reindeer horn hats or Bedazzled sweaters I was probably wearing at the time. In some of those pics I’m sure I was showcasing blotchy red patches and an oily forehead.
Eek!
In an effort to keep history from repeating itself, this year I’m enlisting the help of Make Up For Ever’s new Professional HD Complexion Starter Kit ($79).
It’s either that, or run the risk of being caught in another holiday pic looking like I’ve had too many cups of eggnog…
Yeah, no thanks! 🙂
The new four-piece set is designed to deliver flawless skin in three simple steps — 1. Prep, 2. Cover and 3. Finish. Available now at Sephora stores and also online, it comes with one full-size HD High Definition Foundation, travel sizes of Make Up For Ever’s HD High Definition Primer in #0 and HD High Definition Powder, and an HD Microfinish Kabuki Brush.
The face products contain something MUFE calls “spherical micro beads” that refract light, bending it in a way that mellows out the appearance of skin imperfections for a forgiving soft-focus effect.
I’ve been using the products since Monday, and here are a few things I’ve learned…
HD High Definition Primer in #0
I actually met this colorless, oil-free liquid primer through MUFE’s Wild & Chic Best of Makeup For Ever Kit last month, and we’ve been hanging out a lot since then. It smoothes the skin, getting it ready for foundation, and gives it a subtle lit-from-within glow (Step No. 1: Prep). I can really see the difference, too, both in real life and pictures.
HD High Definition Foundation
Step No. 2 in this process, Cover, relies on HD High Definition Foundation, an oil-free, medium-to-full coverage liquid foundation available in 26 shades (you can pick which shade you’d like with the set). MUFE made it to inconspicuously minimize shine during HD filming and to even out skin tone.
I gave it a try earlier this year and loved how it looked in person and in pics, but unfortunately, it triggered breakouts, or at least I thought it did. I gave it another try this week, and after three days so far, no breakouts yet (knock on wood!).
I hope my luck holds out because I love how natural this lightweight foundation looks, and I’m a dead ringer color matched to shade 153.
TIP: After prepping with primer, apply High Definition Foundation using downward strokes with a soft synthetic brush or a dry sponge to avoid raising your facial hairs and drawing attention to them.
HD High Definition Powder
Step No. 3, Finish, calls for the included Kabuki Brush and this colorless loose powder. To set your makeup and cut down on shine, use a small amount of this, and buff it in a circular motion with the super soft brush.
I just love the way my skin looks in these products. If you’ve been interested in trying Make Up For Ever and have been looking for a good place to start, this kit covers some important beauty basics. You get a great primer, foundation, powder and brush, all at the same time.

It’s shoe time!
I crossed off a couple of big tasks from my to-do list this week, and so now I get a reward.
Hmm… I’m torn between chocolate and discount shoes. Which is it? DSW or See’s?
Hope you had a great day today. Tabs says “meow!” 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’d probably go with the shoes, just because I’ve been on a shoe binge lately.

(i got mine in may!) i wouldve been so happy to get this set instead. and were the same shade! yay!. though i do hope it isnt the item breaking you out, i have acne prone skin and it never gave me breakouts. Though karen, if i may ask, what other foundation (and shades) do you use? Do you have a list? Thank you 🙂

IDK, Karen, I would wear oversized twinkling reindeer horn hats with pride and glee! While others around me shrink back in embarrasment, sure, but I would be having fun.

You said shade 513, is that a typo? I got on Sephora’s site and saw shades up to 185. Looks great on you btw!
