True confession: when I visit other people’s homes I peek inside their showers to see what shampoos and body washes they use.
Of course, if someone were to peek into my shower, they’d probably think I have shower gel ADD. It’s jam packed with products, like the shampoo aisle at Rite Aid, LOL! I’ve covered every single square inch of usable surface area. It drives El Hub crazy. I listen when he’s in there and hear thud after thud as bottles and jars fall from the shower ledge and into the tub, followed almost immediately by something like “Damnit!” or “Argh!” or “Karen!”
Well, this week the ledge inside my shower has also been home to Philosophy’s The Haunted House ($30) shower gel set.
It comes with three 6-oz. bottles of Halloween-inspired scented shower gels. Each doubles as a shampoo or bubble bath, and all three come in a cute lil’ haunted house box.
- Pumpkin Spice Muffin smells just like homemade pumpkin muffins (with plenty of brown sugar and cinnamon!) baking in the oven.
- Caramel Apple has a sweeter scent, like caramel, with just a hint of crisp juicy Granny Smith Apple.
- Black Licorice reminds me of the licorice plants that grew all over my neighborhood in the East Bay. I have great memories of the smell but don’t really like the taste of licorice, so this was my least favorite of the three.
Philosophy’s The Haunted House
Price: $30 for three festive 6-oz. bottles
Use: Fragrant shower gels, bubble baths and, in a pinch, a shampoo
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
I’ve been having a blast with these because they create lots of big bubbles and foam. They rinse off quickly but leave traces of their respective scents on my skin.
As a frame of reference, the shower gels aren’t quite as moisturizing as Bath and Body Works True Blue Spa Shea Butter Cashmere, but for normal to just slightly dry skin, they get it done.
Now, if only Philosophy had included one that smelled like Snickers… 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’m a big fan of philosophy’s shower gels…I don’t even want to say how many I have in the shower right now. My current favorite? Fresh Cream. Yum. Though he would deny it if asked, my man likes and uses them too.

these are too cute! I love phiosophy shower gels-I have several in rotation right now. My favorites are definitely the ones that smell like baked goods. 😉

I love the smell of Philosophy goodies, but I tried the Cinnamon Buns one of these and it left a weird smell on my skin and it put me off the others a bit. The pumpkin one does sound yummy though.
Just to jump back a bit, YES! Kimora’s closet is absolutely amazing, as is her shoe collection. I think she’s got a great figure too, she’s slim without being stick thin and I think thats much sexier!
The tattoo is healing pretty well, thank you for asking! Its still a teeny bit scabby (eww!) but I’m hoping in another few days I’ll be all good and able to have a more carefree shower without stressing about getting it wet, or better still – a BATH! I’ve missed my bubbles so much. I’ve been out and bought new bubble bath in anticipation, not that I needed any! 🙂
I have a little request for you. Is there any chance in one of your FOTDs you could do a halloween look? I’m going to a party as a dominatrix, and I’m looking for inspiration and you always look so amazing I’d love to see what you suggest!

Eww black licorice. So not my cup of tea, but hey, whatever works for you.
I love Philosophy. They come up with the coolest scents. My two fav’s that I’ve tried so far are Mimosa and Vanilla b-day cake.
I remember last year I bought a bunch of limited edition shower gels from Sauve, one of them was something like Caramel apple and the other one was chocolate something or other. They always release them in fall or around Christmas. They smelled awesome and were only like $2.
My fiance hates my shower too. At any given time I probably have 10-15 different full sized products in there and tons and tons of little samples. Then he gets out of the shower and realizes that I have managed to cover that space with cosmetics 😛 And then there’s the closet in the bathroom and the medicine cabinet too, which have been taken over by lotions, powders, creams, perfumes, and body splashes. He complains, a lot, haha. Oh well. He must love me 😉
Karen says
Hi Amy,
OoOOo I haven’t smelled that scent yet! Have you tried Raspberry Sorbet? That’s my fave.
Ha! Although El Hub talks so much smack about my plethora of shower gels, I have more than once smelled the scent of Bobbi Brown Beach shower gel on his skin. 🙂
Karen says
Hi P. Potter,
You aren’t the only one. I have contemplated eating Raspberry Sorbet more than once.
How FUN! I was just thinking the other day how fun Disneyland would be on Halloween. I totally want to go next year. The last time I went there was 2006. It’s been too long. What is your favorite ride? Mine used to be Pirates of the Caribbean until they Jack Sparrow-ed it all out.
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Yup! I agree… the baked goods scents make my shower feel like a bakery.
Karen says
Hi Beth,
Hmm, maybe give the pumpkin one a sniff, just for kicks? It smells really good.
I agree. She’s got fab curves, for sure! I think Kimora is straight up nuts, but I wouldn’t mind hanging out in her closet and borrowing a bag or 25.
LOL, so I dunno if I can quite pull the dominatrix look off, but I do have some ideas. 😉 Let me simmer about it a bit more and I’ll get back to you. Where’s my whip?!?!
Karen says
Hi Brittany,
That’s too funny! Is he always knocking over bottles and what not? I swear I have no idea how I can manage to keep everything balanced in there and El Hub is like a bull in a china shop!
I have makeup/products all over the counter at any given time too. 🙂

I MUST HAVE THEM!
True confession: when I visit other people’s homes I peek inside their showers to see what shampoos and body washes they use.
Also, you’re not alone on this one! LOL! Sometimes I even pick up things that are unfamiliar to me and sniff the product. =X

Oooh, I have the Pumpkin Spice Muffin and I love it! I’m addicted to Philosophy body washes — I think this is my fourth or fifth. (I haven’t actually finished one yet.)
My friend came to visit my new apartment this weekend, and later she said, “When I was in your bathroom, I totally checked out and smelled your Philosophy body wash. AMAZING.”
Did you see Sephora’s Philosophy set with TEN minis of the body wash? I am so incredibly tempted!
Jannie says
Caramel Apple would be the one for me! Then I’d go out and buy and eat a real one.

Eeeeee, I want it I want it I want it.
Woo, I had a squealy-fest. I just love things that smell like pumpkin spice. It’s my favorite. That’s probably why this is one of my favorite seasons.
I love to buy pumpkin spice candles to make my house smell so good. Now I can by this and make ME smell so good.
Licorice? Eww. But the pumpkin and caramel apple need to be in my shower right now. No matter what the season.

*weighs her love of pumpkin bakery against the price tag* Maaaaaaaaaaan *lol* I want it, but $30 is a lot for shower gell. But there’s a cat on the package! I’m such a cat softie.

Hi Tekoa,
They have a 16-oz bottle of the Pumpkin Spice scent for $16! No cat though… here’s the link!

Hi Jaimie,
Me too! What’s your fave?
Karen says
Hi Almira,
Girl, I do that too. Thank goodness I’m not the only one!
Karen says
Hi Jeanne,
OMG! Seriously, that 10 Mini Set would be poor El Hub’s nightmare… and my dream come true. You would have a new scent for every day of the week!
Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever finished one, either. I’ve come really close, though, with Raspberry Sorbet!
Karen says
Hi Jannie,
I hear that! I’ll take mine covered with lots of nuts, please!
Karen says
Hi Trisha,
I love pumpkin candles, too. They make the house feel very “homey.”
Yeah, the licorice one is not my favorite. It brings back a lot of childhood memories of tooling around my neighborhood, though…

Hi Karen,
OMG I though I was the only person who peeked into baths/showers in friends houses to see what products they use!! I have even been caught out a couple of times when I have asked how they like the products and have given away that I was poking around the bathroom!
Im not sure if you get them over in the U.S. but at the moment im loving Imperial Leather Foamburst shower foams they come out as a gel and lather up to a foam and smell gorgeous and are really mositurising on the skin! I have been using them on and off now for a few months and when I dont use them my skin can feel tight after showering but when im using them it feels great!

I love Philosophy shower gels! My favorite has got to be melon daiquiri. 🙂 I think I’m gonna try their Hot Cocoa one, just in time for the holidays!
Marisol says
As yummy as these products sound, I can’t stand to use them. They tend to smell weird when I use them. I guess my body chemistry doesn’t work with them. I do like the B&BW one.

Haha, your shower is like mine back in the day. My cousins ended up smuggling the shampoos and stuff out of there. Now I’m more streamline and use only the things I need. Philosophy stuff is wonderful, I love the all-in-one function a lot.
I was thinking if there is a “spouses of beauty bloggers” support group. Imagine guys standing up introducing themselves as, “Hi, I’m so and so and my wife/girlfriend/sister/daughter is a beauty blogger”. It would be fun to see I think.

We just remodeled our bathroom, and I made sure to pick out a tub/shower surround that had LOTS of shelves to put my shower gels and stuff on because my hub was always knocking stuff off, too! 🙂

I actually loooove the Black Licorice one! I guess I’m in the minority there. >.< I bought three 16oz bottles (Black Licorice, Caramel Mocha Latte, Orange Cranberry Spritzer) and three 24oz bottles (Cranberry, Spiced Apple Cider, The Gingerbread Man) over the past week. I think I’m set for life! I have a ton of other shower gels in the bathroom too, and every time my friends come over they end up smelling whatever’s in the the shower that they hadn’t seen before.
You should take a picture of all your shower gels!

I want this so badly. It is just a fun item to have during the Halloween season!!! I’m a huge philosophy addict! Your shower sounds like mine! I currently have Red Velvet and Amazing Grace in my shower.

I am such a shower gel junkie, too! At last count I had 10 in my shower — and it’s a stall shower, so it’s quite crowded. 🙂 But I want to add these to my arsenal, stat!
