Attention, makeup companies and packaging designers: printing pics of sad, doe-eyed kittens on the cover of cosmetics compacts WORKS.
Hey, it worked for me. 🙂
I’m finicky about my face powders, and when I find a few I like, I tend stick with ’em. These days, I’ve been turning to the MAC Studio Careblends and Tarte Pressed Powders, but I physically couldn’t resist trying Paul & Joe’s Matte Pressed Powder in Cinnamon 001.
This near-translucent $42 face powder padded on the scene with dainty little kitten paws. Part of the Paul & Joe Kitten Collection, it’s become one of the more elusive kitties in the release, or so I’m hearing through the grapevine (apparently, I haven’t been the only makeup fiend to fall for this packaging). I adopted mine from beautyhabit.com, but when I checked back later, it was no longer listed there.
The feline fun doesn’t stop with the cute cat on the outside of the compact, either. There’s also a paw print powder puff in the compact and the silhouette of a kitty on the pan.
Tabs feels that he deserves some of the credit for the idea… After all, the model, as Tabs put it, has “some junk in da trunk” — an obvious indicator of Tabs’ influence in the world of plus-size kitty models.

Matte Pressed Powder in Cinnamon 001
As far as pressed powders go, Cinnamon seems nice. Before I tried it on, I thought it might be too light for my tan, but when I apply it with a fluffy face brush, the semitransparent look reminds me of MAC Blot, which I like. When I use the included powder puff, though, I find the powder very easy to overapply, in which case it starts to look ashy.
I don’t expect to be able to wear this with a deeper tan when summer rolls around; I think it might be too light for that. If your skin tone is much darker than mine (I’m an NC 42 in MAC), you and this kitty may not get along.
Cinnamon doesn’t appear to aggravate the dry patches on my combination skin, and it also controls the shine on my forehead well, so the formula works pretty well for me. I do find that I have to touch up about halfway through the day.
Like most Paul & Joe products, Cinnamon has a scent. My nose likes this one, which reminds me of violet hard candy.
I could stare at this packaging all day long, but with a $42 powder, I expect even more than that. Don’t get me wrong, I think Cinnamon performs just fine, but life changing, it’s probably not.
Of course, that all depends on how much you like the packaging… They do say that cats choose their owners. 🙂

Oh, it’s so cute! I think it might be a tad to pale for my skin tone. And it has a scent? How unusual for a powder!
Telma Micheloto says
Thanks! I was waiting for this one! And yes, I got it only for the cat design, I had just bought a Guerlain pressed powder that’s virtually untouched… Oh well!
Louisa says
The packaging is adorable! That turquoise gets me in the mood for summer 🙂
Joyce says
Ahhh!!! The powder puff is too cute and adorable. I wonder if I can just purchase the powder puff by itself. =D
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Ooooo look at that paw and kitty!!! This will probably work for my skin tone, but I don’t think I can find it anymore. Oh well, I would be too sad to use it anyways to be honest, so let me pretend it’s all for the best…
Karen says
The paw is one of the best parts! So very cat lady. 🙂

The packaging is fabulous and I love the kitty silhouette in the pan. I’m all set with my Tarte, though. But, while I’m thinking of it, do you apply the Tarte pressed powder with a brush? I’ve just been blotting with the pad that comes with it.
Karen says
Hi Kim,
Yup, I use a skunk brush (my current fave is by Laura Mercier). The pad tends to lay down more product, which is fine if I’m doing bare skin or a light tinted moisturizer, but it can look a little heavy with the full coverage MAC Studio Sculpt foundation I wear.
Are you still using your Tarte Tinted Moisturizer?
Kim says
Yes, still with the Tarte. I do find that the powder makes me look a little ashy when it’s first applied, but after a couple of minutes, it seems to blend well. I relied heavily on the advice of the gal at Sephora when she was matching me. She thought the color I chose would be too dark when it settled and recommended the lighter color. I’m glad I listened. 🙂 I really only blot it on my T zone but was wondering if the results would be different/better if I used a brush.

that is such an adorable compact … and the puff — i love!!!
BeccaTheCyborg says
That’s pale enough for my ghostly-lookin’ self! And my lovely kitty is also named Cinnamon. Add in my violet scent obsession, and I am making grabby-hands at the screen!
gio says
That’s such a cute powder! Love the puff as well.
Anitacska says
I agree, it’s cute and pretty, but for me the pricetag is too high for what it is.
Adrienne says
Aww, that paw print is so cute!! And cinnamOn would make a great name for a kitty, I’ll have to keep it in mind in case I ever truly become the full fledged CCL my gf says I am lol 😛
What lipstick are you wearing in these pics? I love the pretty berry color!
Chelsea says
Cinnamon would be a good kittycat name!
This is super cute.

The hardcore cat lady in me is dying to try out this collection, but $42 is a bit much for what I would normally spend on face powder.
Teresa says
Hi Karen~ I love the packaging on that powder, so cute. I just posted about the new Physician’s Formula pressed powder and I’m really really really impressed by it. It doesn’t have as adorable an appearance though but that’s ok :)).
Tekoa says
I find your mathematical formula to be very accurate. There could be the crappiest product ever inside and I’d still consider buying it. *faints from cat cuteness overload*
corallista says
The packaging is so cute especially the paw print on the puff!
DaenaCat says
My 3 cats tell me I NEED this. They’re so right..!

Cat on the packaging, the powder, and the puff! Darnit!! I’m sure they’ll meow in approval when they hear about this!
