How’s it going out there, ladies? I’m sorry about the late post, but I wanted to make sure it made scents before I clicked the big button to publish. 🙂
You see, three days ago I started using the Malibu Lemon Blossom Body Wash ($18) and Body Butter ($15) from Pacifica, a brand known for the light, refreshing scents and good-for-your ingredients of their natural body washes, moisturizers, perfumes and soy candles.
The line also doesn’t use parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, phthalates or artificial colors, and both of the products I’m covering today are vegan and Tabs-approved, which means, much to Tabs’ delight, that neither of them was tested on animals.
I’ve had my eye on the brand for a while and decided to treat myself on a recent trip to Sephora.
What do ya think of the packaging? It’s what first caught my eye. I think it’s elegant yet casual, and definitely cheerful. It reminds me of the beach, aka one of my favorite places to chill.
And then there’s the scent. Oooh… Like sunshine in a bottle! Pacifica describes the scent that both products share as a mix of salty ocean air, perfect surf, lemon blossoms and long, summer days at the beach.
Not a bad description, right? 🙂
And that’s how I’d describe it, too. If I were to compare it to other beachy fragrances, I’d call it a lighter, fresher, lemon-scented version of Bobbi Brown’s Beach.
Lemon can be a tricky scent to work with, and some companies don’t get the mix right, but I think Pacifica did. They got it *just right*.
Too strong, and lemony products can smell like Pledge furniture cleaner (bluh!). Malibu Lemon Blossom’s lemony notes are light and delicate, like a squirt of sweet Meyer lemon in a glass of ice water, and it’s one of most refreshing and invigorating scents I’ve come across in a long time (LOVE using it after my workouts in the morning).
More details
Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom Body Wash: Pacifica infused it with aloe vera leaf juice, the essential oils of litsea cubeba (flowering Angel’s Trumpet) and the extracts of green tea, white tea and cucumber. The slightly thin texture doesn’t foam up like the body washes from Philosophy or Bath and Body Works, but it packs monster moisturizing power. At $18, it’s not cheap, but the 17-oz. bottle’s huge and should last at least a few months. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
Pacific Malibu Lemon Blossom Body Butter: Packed with moisturizing shea and mango butters, aloe vera gel, and sweet almond oil, this body butter has SERIOUS game. It’s thick, rich, and a little bit goes a long, long way. It keeps my driest parts smooth and ash-free all day long (I’d say a full 24 hours), and I love that it doesn’t leave a greasy film on my skin. Worth every penny of its $15 price! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
These may be gateway drugs to a new Pacifica addiction because now I can’t wait to try more things from the line!
Are you familiar with the brand? Let me know if you’ve ever given any of their products a try.
In other beauty news…
Lots of things going on today on the beauty news front. Brace yourself for the first one (it’s a doozy!).
Shu Uemura is saying buh-bye to the US. It’s a sad day for fellow Shu Uemura fans, girls. This week the makeup line announced that they’re shutting all US counters, *tears*, but there is a bright side. They will continue to sell products to US customers through their website.
It’s already summer, summer, summertime at Urban Decay headquarters. UD’s summer collection is NOW ONLINE. A sassy eyeshadow palette joins the De-Slick in a Tube (a gel mattifier, $28), four new Makeup Setting Sprays ($26 each), Urban Defense Tinted Moisturizer ($32) and more.
I hope you’ve been having a great day so far. It’s cold and rainy here … and it’s making me hungry for clam chowder! 🙂

I’ve never tried any of the Pacifica, but I’m always sniffing at their solid perfumes and perfume sprays. I’m kind of on a body lotion buying ban right now, but once I use up a few more items I’m totally checking these out.
And dude. I heard about Shu last night and I am seriously devastated. I know it sounds retarded but easy access to Shu Uemura was one of the things I was so excited about moving to SF for… ;_;

i LOVE Pacifica. I am really fond of their Waikiki PIkake scent. I own the body butter, the soap and solid perfume. Their scents in general are phenomenal, especially the floral ones like lotus, persian rose, jasmine, gardenia, etc. You should try their candles in case you can’t get enough of their bath and body stuff.
I am also really sad about Shu. I love their brushes.

sorry it cut off before I could type. I’m addicted to their gardenia scent.s. it is so amazing.

I was going to say previously, their solid perfumes actually do a great job of sticking to your skin with their soy and coconut wax base. I love their body products because they are scented and the smell lingers. I love the smell of my bathroom during and after a shower. And I agree the body butter is amazing.
I will say I have bought Pacifica in random places. My local food co-op carries it, as does Whole Foods, and Borders. I’ve gotten an awesome deal at Borders with using the reward coupons (when I’m not buying books..) and when they have random sales on those things. So keep your eyes peeled?
Clearly, I can go on about my love for their products…

I love love love the Blood Orange scent. I used it all last spring/summer. I’m switching back over to the scent this weekend actually. Next fall/winter I’m going to try their Madagascar Spice, maybe layered with the Blood Orange. They layer really well according to some friends. (And Pioneer Woman, she recently did a review one them also.) Unfortunately not all the scents are sold at Sephora so I need to pay a visit to some other retail locations near me.

I really like Pacifica’s packaging and most of their scents. There is a store near my house that sells their full range and I always like to go there to try their stuff. I hope Shu Uemura’s move out of the US doesn’t effect counters in Canada, I love their stuff. Please stay in Canada Shu!

Hello,
this doesn’t have anything to do with the specific blog post, but… i wanted to know if you could answer a beauty question!
I have a problem when i tend to touch my face that foundation will come off and i mean a lot! I put on a moisturizer, RIGHT before, so i don’t know if that is the answer to my problem And i don’t glob the foundation on, i hate cake faces! But i just wanted to know what the heck can i do so that this doesn’t happen because i hate then i rub my forehead or nose (most common 2 places) and then i see my foundation on my fingers.. it’s embarrassing! what are you tips!? what can i do?!
iben says
Hey,
I had that problem too, but I found that if I let my moisturizer soak in for 10 minutes or so and apply a primer before my foundation, it helped tons. Also, I switched for a higher end foundation – I use DiorSkin Nude, and it’s great! Don’t have those kind of problems anymore 🙂
Hope that helped and have a nice day! 🙂

Oh dear…another brand to add to the list! Hubby got me the Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange, and I am hooked on it already….and now……this!! Time to clear off as many of my current bath and body products fast, to make new storage space for Pacifica.
One good thing is we don’t have Sephora here, or I won’t be able to resist to get more of them at this moment to try out! 😀

It was windy and cool-ish yesterday but the sun shined brightly too …. makes me feel like its hte perfect season for lemon scented bath and body stuff! Ive always been curious about Pacifica – might be a good time to check it out! 🙂

I was just humming California Dreaming this morning – it’s been rainy and gloomy here on the East Coast all week too. Pacifica sounds like the perfect pick-me-up! Thanks Karen! 🙂
mkdallas says
The body lotion in Tuscan Blood Orange is divine…fragrance is delish and the lotion is a great moisturizing formula that works long after you apply it. Based on your review, I’m going to have to try this lemon formula, as well. The price is also pretty good on the lotion ($16 for a pretty big bottle…around 16 ounces, I think) for an upscale brand.
Suji says
I am really looking forward to summer & the beach, and this might be a perfect scent to prep for it. I haven’t tried anything from Pacifica yet, but I really enjoy light, fresh and fruity scents! Gotta try it out soon 🙂
lexi says
I”m seriously addicted to girly scented lotions – especially during this time of year when i put away my lightly scented aveeno/lubriderm so it wouldn’t clash with my heavier winter perfumes. Spring/Summer is when I bring out the heavier scented lotions/body washes and fragrance mists. I am planning to go to Sephora today on my lunch break – I may have to check this one out and the body butter is nicely priced!
Lisa S. says
Oooo, I actually have a bottle of the Tuscan Blood Orange on it’s way to me right now from Sephora. I’d love to try this one. B&B had a limited edition, um Lemon Sugar I think it was called that I loved. I’d like to see if this one smells anything close. And really I think that Pacifica is priced really well for such yummy fragrances and the quality is stellar.
Lisa S. says
A question for ya Karen. Did ya get to smell the Orange sapphire from B&B works? What did ya think. As I said, I’m not a fan, but your mileage may vary. :0) Another fragrance from B&B I do like is Lemon Grass Sage, it’s soft, lemony with an herb-y edge. It’s really nice for spring and summer.
Karen says
I actually smelled it the other day! I popped in there to buy some moisturizing hand washes and put some Orange Sapphire lotion on my way out. I liked it… it smelled like an orange-mint combo on me. I think the lotion might be too much orange for me, but I could see myself using the shower gel in the summer. 🙂
Oh, love Lemon Grass Sage! Do you remember Green Aloe Clover? That’s probably my favorite.
Susie says
Oh I love Pacifica! When I bought the body butter it was a toss up between the Malibu Lemon or the Tuscan Blood Orange. I ended up going w/ the blood orange. Smelled so fresh. Another one I’m dying to try is the Pikake scent since it’s one of my favorite smells.
I might have to head to sephora this weekend and treat myself. 🙂

I love Pacifica. <3 I've got the solid perfume, two small candles, liquid perfume, small body butter, and body lotion in the Hawaiian Ruby Guava scent and it's really really awesome! I love the scent so much. And the lotion is amazing. The scent from the lotion lasts longer on me than any of my other lotions, and it comes in a huge bottle.
I also have the Malibu Lemon Blossom solid perfume, and while the scent is really lovely, it's a little weak for me. I'd kind of like to try the body wash and lotion though.
EH says
Me loves the Malibu Lemon Blossom body butter! I live in Oz and had my aunt in the US buy it for me.

Late to the game here (just catching up after a long week!) but I LOVE Pacifica products, especially Hawaiian Ruby Guava! I’ll have to check out the Malibu Lemon Blossom! 🙂
