I have yet to partake of the costumed creative greatness that is cosplay, but if/when I do, the character I play will HAVE to have crazy-@ss green lips — obviously — because if I’m going to go through the effort to dress up like a fantastical/comic book character, there is no way I’m wearing a soft mid-toned neutral pink on my lips or a hushed neutral beige.
LAME.
Green lips all the way! 🙂
And apparently Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (also known as OCC) feels me on this.
Their six new $18 Summer 2015 Cosplay Collection Matte Lip Tars (the collection also has six nail polishes) includes a bright, vibrant leafy green appropriately called Cosplay, and no, I haven’t worn it to Trader Joe’s…yet.
Like OCC’s other Lip Tars, these totally tubular liquid lipsticks have a peppermint flavor and scent. Just dab a drop of one on the back of your hand, and then use a lip brush to apply them from there.
How smooth and opaque these are varies by color, and it seems like the more “out there” shades, like the stone-colored John Doe, purple Belladonna, green Cosplay and pale pink Femme, apply more intensity than more traditional colors in the release like coral Cha-Cha and medium pink Memento.
But all of them do feel fab — better, in fact, than most liquid lipsticks I’ve tried, perhaps because they don’t dry all the way down to a thick film (like a lot of liquid lipsticks). They remain emollient, flexible and comfortable (and generally refrain from settling into my vertical lip lines) the whole time I’m wearing them.
How long they last also varies by color, with the crazier ones like the green and purple lasting about four hours, and the pinks and coral about two.
I am left scratching my head a little as to why these are called mattes, because I do see a slight shine on my lips with all of them, but c’est la vie. If I ever feel the need to completely matte them down, I’ll just dust a light layer of translucent powder on top (an old ’90s matte lip makeup trick).
Good stuff. 🙂 We should totally get around to doing cosplay already. You, me, crazy lip colors and costumes, perhaps a cat or two or three… You down?

I’m still considering even stepping out of my comfort zone & trying a deep plum, wine or purple lippie but “Cosplay” is fantastic & I can totally see my hairstylist rocking it!

I’ve never tried anything from this brand, but their wild colors & the fact that you can mix them to create even more fun colors, has always interested me. Love the purple!

I haven’t tried anything by OCC just as yet, and I’m usually not bold enough to rock such unique lip colors, but Cosplay is gorgeous. I’m tempted!

Cha-Cha looks very pretty. I am not bold enough to try such wild colors. They for sure would be great for a Halloween/Costume party.

Anytime I think of OCC, I immediately think of their wild lip colors (generally in that liquid vinyl finish, rather than the matte). 🙂 I’m definitely getting a Uni-Kitty from Cloud Cuckoo Land vibe from your cosplay pic above. HAHA!
