Reason No. 352 to love makeup: It provides a valid excuse to test new ways to REMOVE makeup. 🙂
This may not come as a complete surprise, but I have a soft spot for makeup wipes… What can I say? I appreciate anything that helps me feel productive while my booty’s parked in front of the TV (SIDE NOTE: I’m caught up on episodes of Entourage now; two thumbs up! Can’t wait for the new season to start).
Lately I’ve been testing Neutrogena’s new Hydrating Cleansing Towelettes ($7 for 25). As the newest addition to Neutrogena’s line of makeup removing wipes, they come pre-moistened with glycerin and the soothing extracts of cucumber and aloe.
The first things I noticed about these were the minty floral fragrance and how soft they feel — like a bunny’s tail. The scent caught my attention, but the texture stole my heart!
I have combination dry/oily skin, and many wipes don’t work well for me, particularly when it comes to removing waterproof makeup. No such trouble with these. They work well and feel great all over my face, even on the dry patches near my nose and mouth.
The wipes leave a sheer layer of something moisturizing on my skin. It’s not greasy, though, just “there.” I kinda like it, but it is something to keep in mind.
Of course, when it comes to removing makeup, Hydrating Cleansing Towelettes cut through foundation, powder, primer and long-wearing eye and lip makeup with ease, working at least as well as the wipes that had been my latest drugstore faves, Boots Expert Sensitive Cleansing Wipes and Soap and Glory’s Off Your Face Cleansing Cloths.
Neutrogena Hydrating Cleansing Towelettes may even be more hydrating than both of those stars.
One final note on the packaging: you never know what to expect from sticker closures like these. Some just won’t stay shut, leading to the wipes drying out, but that hasn’t happened to this pack. The sticker’s stayed stuck and securely shut.
Dry-skinned babes looking for a heavy-duty remover with benefits of moisture might want to ride this pony. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A
You might like Neutrogena Hydrating Cleansing Towelettes if
- …you wear a lot of waterproof makeup
- …you enjoy scented cleansers and products
- …you don’t mind the feeling of a light residue on your skin, and/or
- …your face CRAVES moisture!
They’re carried at Target and other big beauty-equipped drugstores.

Did you know there exists a subset of Mother’s Day cards written on behalf of your pet?
It’s true.
Now your cat can express his heartfelt thanks (ha!) in card form, ala this one from Petside.com.
Hmm… I can’t imagine Tabs giving me a Mother’s Day card. Typically he shows his appreciation on Administrative Assisistant’s Day instead. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Anja might send me something like that if there were a holiday for “she is my pillow/mattress day” …. Linus will totally send me that on “she is my slave and at my beck and call” day.
Those wipes look very promising – im loving Soap and Glory right now but it doesnt hurt to try new stuff, esp when the benefits are that awesome! 🙂
This might be my next purchase …. I have a week or so to go on my Soap and Glory.
Karen says
Those Soap and Glory ones still rock my boat. I wish they’d go on sale more often!!
Are you all packed for your trip?
Nina says
I was packed up for my trip last weekend LOL … I was that stoked to go on a vacay!
Weve had some fantastic barbecue in Taylor Tx in a place called Louis Muellers. Had some pretty good cobbler there too. Weve taken a swim and walked around. Now were just thinking of where to go for dinner….
Mina says
woo hoo! I was just looking for good makeup wipes! Karen, have you tried the Korres Pomegranate Cleansing & Make Up Removing Wipes? I know you haven’t written a review, but was wondering if you had heard anything. 🙂
Karen says
I tried ’em and wasn’t that fond of them. I remember the wipes feeling very scratchy and not doing a great job of removing even light makeup.
Sonja says
I think I’ll be picking up these soon, my Johnson’s ones do nothing for me, they aren’t even good at removing my non waterproof mascara!
Karen says
I haven’t tried those yet; it sounds like I’m not missing much! Makeup wipes seem to be so hit and miss, ya know?
Hopefully these will work for you. 🙂 Oh, do you live near a Target? You also might want to pick up the Soap & Glory ones. Those are GREAT!
Perri says
I might have to try these out!
also, love the mother’s day card! haha
Sonja says
No, we don’t have Target here, I live Croatia but do we have something similar to CVS/Wallgreens just they don’t carry Soap&Glory or Bliss:(
I’ve also tried some L’oreal ones- they irritated my eyes, so I think Neutrogena is next for me!
Karen says
Hi Sonja,
OH, were they the Skingenesis ones in the pink pack? Those stung my eyes like CRAZY.
Karen says
Hi Perri,
It’s soooo like a cat to demand something like food in a Mother’s Day card, right?
Apple Diva says
I love Neutrogena wipes. The best!!!

Hi Apple Diva,
They’re great, yah?
How have you been?
Tracy says
I love these moisturizing wipes too! They’re hard to find here -I can only find them at Walmart right now.

Hi Tracy,
They’re pretty new… hopefully more stores will carry them soon!
Kate & Zena says
Actually, I did know about Mother’s Day Cards from Pets. I usually get my mom one from Z! Hers is usually something humorous. Mine this year has three dogs with bubble gum bubbles (the middle dog’s bubble popped on its face though) on the cover and the inside says, “Face it, you’re stuck with me! Happy Mother’s Day” It’s super cute.
Karen says
Hi Kate & Zena,
That’s adorable! So, is Zena the “baby” of the family? My dog Shauna is technically the youngest “kid” in mine, so she’s the baby, LOL!
Summer ♥♥ says
I am gonna have to try these when my Garnier ones run out! Have you tried the Garnier Nutrisse Detoxifying Towelettes? They come in a green package, and I love em so much, they smell incredible and give my skin a glow…have you tried them?
Karen says
Hi Summer,
I used Garnier wipes a few years ago and was turned off by the packaging. I had serious trubs with the sticker closure — it just wouldn’t stay shut!
Does your pack have that problem?
Rae says
This is *exactly* the makeup wipe review I’ve been dreaming of, Karen! The wipes sound absolutely lovely. Now the hard part — hunting them down! 😛
.-= Rae’s last blog post… A blur brush, in a jar =-.
Karen says
Hi Rae,
Good luck! Hopefully you can find ’em at a drugstore in your neck of the woods.
Hedy @ penny for my thoughts says
I’ll have to check these out for travel.

Hi Hedy,
Cool! I hope you like ’em. 🙂
Kim says
I definitely have to get some make-up remover. The soap and water is not cutting it on my mascara (which is not even waterproof). I think I’m going to give Soap and Glory a whirl first. PS Karen, I love your butterfly banner – I’m just seeing it today for the first time. I guess I don’t spend too much time at the top of the page. 🙂 And, pet cards = awesome!
Karen says
Hi Kim,
I hope you like the Soap and Glory ones. Not only do they work well, the packaging is way cute!
Pet cards are funny, huh? I think they’re kind of strange, but I wouldn’t mind if Tabs sent me one for Mother’s Day.
Hope you’re having a nice Thursday!
YJ says
Neutrogena has the best (drugstore) wipes I’ve found so far! They ARE really soft and the scents are nice too =)

Karen says
Hi YJ,
Oooh, which other wipes have you tried? Anything worth giving a go?
Marce says
Go Neutrogena! They make some good things, hey? I love their sunscreens and alcohol free toner. I wish we got their makeup here too, it’d be something else to try 🙂

Yes they do. Which sunscreen do you use? I’m all about the Dry Touch, WOOT!

The same one! Though I’ve been switching with Clinique’s Super City Block too!

I need new makeup remover. Maybe I’ll get wipes this time.

I hope you give ’em a go. 🙂

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the review! These sound really promising! I’m curious — do you prefer the Neutrogena wipes or the MAC wipes? If I remember correctly, 100 MAC wipes cost $26, and four packs of the Neutrogena wipes would be $28, so there is a small price difference.
Merylynmagic says
Gee Karen! I’m all over this one!!! Will go pick them up today! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Karen says
You’re welcome. Let me know what colors you end up getting. 😀

These sound lovely, I love anything that is moisturizing for my dehydrated skin. Luckily Neutrogena is easily accessible at drug stores in my area. I will have check these out.

I have been trying new wipes for a while.. i used to use ponds, and i liked them, but at the time I was battling break-outs and wasn’t sure if they were contributing. I tried the Korres Pomegranate wipes, and really didn’t like them, which in the end was good, because they’re too expensive anyway.
BellaSugar reviewed Yes to Cucumbers Natural Glow Facial Towelettes. I decided to give them a try and I really like them. I have found them at Walgreens and some Targets. Usually $5, I have found them on sale for $3. I think they’re refreshing and do a good job of taking off make-up, but I usually have to use two if i had a full face of make-up on.
