Got 120 seconds for François?
WHAT IT IS: NARS Yamal Single Eyeshadow. A sheer, cool brown matte single shadow that looks like a fawn’s delicate fur. It’s one of four shadow singles in the new NARS fall 2013 collection, and the only one that’s limited edition.
WHAT IT DOES:
- This soft, silky matte blends without misbehaving
- Like a lighter version of Urban Decay’s Buck Eyeshadow, or MAC Era with a cooler color temp, a tad more taupe and zero shimmer
- It’s a smooth operator, especially for a matte, never looks chalky and refrains from chilling out in my fine lines
- Worn with NARS Pro Prime, it lasts all day on my combination skin without creasing or fading
- Elegant worn alone on lids with a black liner along the water lines and a smidgen of NARS Kamatcha (also from the fall 2013 collection) eyeshadow smudged along the lower lash lines
- The only limited edition NARS Eyeshadow Single in the fall 2013 collection
THE VERDICT: Less about flashy and more about extreme functionality, cool matte brown Yamal may not excite NARS fans of the Night Series Eyeshadows, but makeup mavens looking for sheer, soft, easy-to-blend workhorse neutrals might fall in love.
PRICE: $24
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, and coming July 15 to NARS counters, boutiques and online

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Monday down, Tuesday to go. 🙂 Have you had your tea or coffee yet?
Agata says
I really like the way it looks but I gotta tell you- that Naked lipstick looks fabulous on you!
Karen says
Hi Agata,
Babe, not to be your pusher or anything, but there are a TON of really lovely neutrals in the Revolution Lipstick line that would look very flattering with your fair skin. 😀 I’m just sayin’…
Agata says
You’re too funny Karen! What shades do you think would look good on me? I think I have to wait till they hit the stores to do some swatching and make up my mind then although I am so tempted to just order a few online!
Danielle says
This was the one shadow color that really stuck out to me in the fall collection!
Karen says
Hi Danielle,
It’s definitely pretty! Are you thinking about picking it up?
Kiss & Make-up says
I like it on you, but I wonder how and if it would contrast enough with my skin tone.
Karen says
If you want it to look more contrasty, you could probably use a lighter base. I’ve thought about popping something white or beige underneath it to see what happens.
Sandy says
I love the color of the shadow…..also what is on your waterline? Your eyes are so pretty….
Karen says
Hi Sandy,
I’m wearing L’Oreal’s Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner. It’s got an okay wear time, but what I love about it is that it’s jet black and has a bit of a shiny finish. 🙂
I hope you had a nice Tuesday! Anything exciting happening on your end of the keyboard? My day was pretty chill, but it just went by so fast.
The Beauty Glow says
I love this on you!
Karen says
Thanks!
Trisha says
In the pan, I wasn’t impressed, but I really like how it looks under your eyes like that. I guess it’s the pigmentation. Normally when I see grey shades like that, they’re too darn sheer. Not the case here. I like that.
Karen says
Hi Trisha,
Yeah, that shade is Kamatcha! Super pretty along the lower lash lines.
Denise S. says
I like what you’re wearing on the lower lash line.I need to check out Kamatcha eyeshadow. Yamal looks too light for my complexion.
Karen says
Hi Denise,
Ya know, that shade is turning out to be one of my faves in the launch. I’ll have the review up in just a few, but long story short, it makes a for a really beautiful smokey lash line.
What do you think of the rest of the collection so far? Anything catch your eye yet?
Iris says
I like this colour and it seems like it’d work for my complexion as a neutral shade. I’ve had my afternoon tea already. I look forward to getting home and having more caffeine. 🙂
Karen says
Yum, afternoon tea sounds delish. What kind did you have? I’ve been drinking a lot of Pukka teas lately, have you heard of them? They make one called “Love” and it’s absolutely delicious. It’s an herbal blend with rose, chamomile and lavender. So yummy!
Iris says
I had black tea from Uganda. Pukka tea and the “Love” tea sound wonderful. I’ll have to look into this. 🙂
Anonne says
I would need to swatch this in person, but I’m not impressed. I generally like things that I can see against my skintone, and I’m fairly certain this would disappear – honestly, I can barely see it on you and my skin tone is similar to yours, Karen. I have enough light beige colors to not want another at this time.
sarahc says
It looks so natural, why wear anything at all?
Maria says
Looks great on you! Thanks for the review. I wonder though if this could be made as an alternative contour powder for the nose and cheeks 🙂
