OK, so I know that I make grammatical mistakes left and right, and I make up words like haaay I write run-on sentences like this one I say “yay!” instead of “yea!” and I use too many emojis 🙂 and LOLs and elipses…
But I do make an effort to at least put my apostrophes where they’re supposed to go, although I don’t lose any sleep over it when I make mistakes or write “gonna” instead of “going to.” I’m not gonna (haha) throw a vase across the room when I come across one of my old posts where I said LOL 20 times and used punctuation improperly (although it does drive me batty when I mix up “you’re” and “your”).
That said, it would really help me if somebody over at Team NARS could clarify something about new Kiss Me Stupid Lipstick from the NARS Spring 2017 Wildfire Collection.
Like, is there supposed to be a comma in there? Is it, like, “Kiss me, stupid,” like you’re talking to someone and saying, “Hey, stupid! Get over here and kiss me”? Or, does it need an exclamation mark because it’s a declarative statement? “Kiss me stupid!” Because I want you to kiss me until I can’t even remember my name or see straight anymore?
I’m so confused…
NARS Kiss Me Stupid Lipstick, $28
Oh! I like this color a lot. When you first see it out of the tube, it’s like hmm… Typical matte, ’90s brown, but this bad boy is a desert sunset in a tube. When you try it on, it becomes a warm, satiny terracotta infused with a fiery reddish orange and subtle golden sparkles. It fits in fabulously with the whole Wildfire color story.
NARS Asphalt Jungle Lip Gloss, $26
The whole “You gotta try it on to appreciate it” thing also happened to me with Asphalt Jungle Lip Gloss.
OMG! Swatch it. Ooh. Get it on your lips. Ah! Fall in love.
This bronzed plum with multicolored flecks of glitter reminds me of MAC Oh Baby Lipglass, except that it’s like Oh Baby to the penultimate degree, with a plum tint and blue, green and pink sparkles.
Be wary of mirrors while wearing this one, because when you catch a glimpse of it sparkling on your lips, you’ll probably lose your sh*t.
Why!? Why is this one limited edition!? Life can be so cruel…
Availability
Oops! I need to back up a little. I got too excited there and forget to say that there are four lip products in this collection — two lipsticks and two lip glosses. The lipsticks are $28 each, and the glosses are $26.
All of them, with the exception of Aragon, are limited edition, and they’re all available now with the rest of the Spring Wildfire Collection.
Oh, and the lipsticks and glosses are unscented and unflavored.
Thank gosh! Remember a few years ago when NARS glosses smelled and tasted kinda like plastic? It was like nibbling on a Barbie doll.
Now, back to Asphalt Jungle Lip Gloss…
The pigment is medium to full, so a little bit of your natural lip color will peek though, which works well in this case since it isn’t a very dark color and still seems perfect for spring.
I haven’t batted my lashes at anything other than a nude gloss in months, but I think Asphalt Jungle is incredible. Don’t miss it.
NARS Breaking Free Lipstick, $28
I wanted to love bright neon coral Breaking Free Lipstick, but it’s thick, patchy and super dry, guys. I just can’t get it to work. It catches on every lip flake and makes my pout look a thousand years old.
Not the biggest fan…
NARS Aragon Lip Gloss, $26
I do like chestnut red Aragon Lip Gloss, but I’m not head over heels in love with it. It’s opaque, but it strikes me as a pretty standard reddish brown.
Not necessarily what I think of when I think of spring lip colors (more like fall), but I think it’s pretty, albeit forgettable.
The verdict
For me, the lippies in this launch are all about the browns — Kiss Me Stupid Lipstick and Asphalt Jungle Lip Gloss. Those two are my favorites.
You’re the biggest part of me…
I was listening to an ’80s station on Sonos radio the other day while prepping lunch veggies for the week (I made these rainbow roasted carrots, yum!) when this song came on…
You’re the biggest part of me!
I always thought this song was called Make a Wish, Baby, but it’s not. Thank you, Internet, for finally clearing it up for me.
Also, thank you, Internet, for letting me know that it’s not a Hall & Oates song (OMG, LOVE THEM). It’s by a band called Ambrosia.
I have no idea who they are, but they sing this lovely song. I’ve been listening to it first thing in the morning for the past few days.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I’ve been roasting the petit parisian carrots from TJ’s, yum yum yum. I’ve been doing them in a little maple syrup, lemon, and oil with salt and pepper. For spring I think I’m going to move to mint and feta on them. I’ll keep buying them as long as they have them.
Asphalt Jungle was my favorite lippie from the collection too. It’s kind of like several different glosses in one, all that I’ve liked but never bought. I might have to get it.
Karen says
That sounds delicious! I’ve seen those at my TJs but never gotten around to picking up a bag. Maybe I’ll do that next.
Fran says
I like Asphalt Jungle! Even though I’m not much of a gloss wearer, I might want that one…
Karen says
Hey Fran,
It’s really cool! If you try it the first thing you need to do is take it out into the sunlight to see it sparkle.
By the way, have you had the chance to try your Frida Kahlo makeup yet?
nai says
That lede of yours wasn’t actually a run-on sentence. What you wrote is called a complex sentence – one independent clause (“I know that I make grammatical mistakes left and right”) and at least one dependent clause (“…and I make up words like haaay….”) =)
Karen says
Ha! OK…so I actually edited the intro to create a run-on sentence because I think it makes a better lede this way. 🙂
Thanks, Nai!
Amy says
Yeeeesss! That Asphalt Jungle is amazing. I’m almost out of the two buxom glosses I wear most – I will have to pick this one up. It’s rare a gloss is so complex and interesting!
PJ says
ACK! I was totally planning to skip the glosses but your swatch of Asphalt Jungle is gaw-jus! 😀

This post just made me LOL so much 😀 Breaking Free is no bueno at all…literally my worst nightmare of lipsticks!
Nivedita says
Aragon may be a common colour, but I still love it so much! If I am busting my pocket for something, I usually get something which I would wear till the last bit.
Asphalt Jungle is so pretty! Different, but so wearable.
Kiss & Make-up says
Agreed, Asphalt Jungle is nice!
Ruchita says
These are intereting colors for a spring release. They look a bit more fall-ish to me. I do like Aragon and Asphalt Jungle! They have kind of a 90s vibe to me.
Karen says
Yes! I wore those dark lip colors all year long back in the day. Do you remember wearing a lot of gloss in the ’90s? I didn’t really until the later years, 1999, I think.
Ruchita says
Revlon Coffee Bean was my go-to back in the day. I didn’t start wearing gloss until later, but now it’s all I wear!
Kim says
So much to love in your post! 🙂 Asphalt Jungle looks fabulous and I agree on the 90s/fall vibe. But, since that’s up my alley, I’m not complaining. HAHA! I love your writing style, especially the made up words and spell-it-how-you-say-it adjustments. I’m a huge fan of good grammar but I also love conversational writing. The “your” and “you’re” drives me nuts, though. One of the boys texted it incorrectly to me just yesterday and I did make a fuss. It’s hard to get a good idea of tone (blogs, email) with people you don’t know well so I use a lot of emojis so I don’t accidentally offend people. I try to stay away from the ellipses after your ex boyfriend story. 😉
Karen says
OH… MY… HEAVENS… He was such an ellipses abuser… I just can’t…
LOL!
Good for you for insisting the boys have correct usage of you’re/your when they’re texting (side note: their versus they’re!). How was Christmas and New Years? Did you spend it at home?
Kim says
The ellipses always make me laugh. If he did nothing else for you, he’s at least given us something to giggle about! HAHA!
Oh, I’m with you on “their” and “they’re”. So painful. 🙂
We were home and my father-in-law visited for a few days, which was nice. The fellas got iPhones this year and we’re saving for our Hawaii trip so the gifting was pretty light.
I think having 2 last minute work trips (one to Hong Kong) plus one of the boys having broken his knee cap made things extra hectic. The other still had hockey and indoor soccer to run for. I hope I don’t sound complainy. It just made for a very hectic Nov/Dec, but things are looking up! 🙂
I hope you had a fantastic Christmas – I was thinking that it was Connor’s first and knew you’d be taking lots of pics and cherishing every moment!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who wondered whether it was Kiss Me (until I’m) Stupid or Kiss Me, Stupid! Lol.
I’m loving all the swatches I see of Asphalt Jungle. I’m more cool toned and have a lot of mauvey blue pigment in my lips, so I’m wondering which way this will pull once I have it on.
Breaking Free doesn’t look like it will work on me in any way, shape or form.
