Nars loves to go off the grid when it comes to their seasonal lip colors, breaking with tradition like it ain’t nothing but a thang. While lines like Chanel, Estee Lauder and Lancome are featuring full coverage pink and red lipsticks in their spring collections, Nars says “check it” with Shrinagar ($24), a semi-sheer berry that whispers sweet nothings to my soul.
Shrinagar is the only lipstick color in Nars’ spring release, a sheer wash of color much like fall’s Canaille lipstick.
But unlike Canaille’s bookish mahogany, which looked so quiet that I almost forgot it was there, Shirinagar turns up the heat.
It may not be as rich as the average spring lip color, but this deep, glossy raspberry with microscopic flecks of silver simply cannot be missed. It seems complex, even flashing purple at certain angles.
Picture hot librarians in nerdy chic glasses.
Texture-wise, Shrinigar feels like velvet on my lips, applying with a thin, creamy consistency that’s also moisturizing. Like other Nars lipsticks I’ve tried, it’s taste- and fragrance-free.

Price: $24
Use: An unusual, semi-sheer berry lipstick for spring
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
I usually associate berry lip colors with fall, but that’s why I found this such a pleasant surprise. I want to try pairing it with Nars’ Hula Hula eyeshadow duo when the weather warms up a little.
I can’t wait to wear it with some dark jeans, a white tank top and pink cardigan… and I think I have a pair of librarian glasses around here somewhere. 🙂
Booty shaking: confusing pets since 2009
I find it physically impossible to sit still when this song is playing, fo’ reals.
Thanks for your workout music suggestions, ladies! I have bumping to Missy Elliott’s Lose Control and DJ Quik’s Get Down all day long.
This is strange, but I noticed that if I start dancing in front of Tabs he just looks at me all confused. I don’t think his little kitty brain understands the booty shake. 🙂
I hope you had a great Friday. Looks like we made it!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

That Missy Elliott song is a great suggestion to work out to! I am constantly looking for loud music (either rap/metal/dance) to work out to because I CANNOT work out without it blasting in my ears! Problem is I get sick of things really quickly so I have to constantly change it up. 🙂
My cats also find it very strange if I dance around. Or wear hats, they are fascinated with hats on me, LOL!

Haha… I downloaded Lose Control for my marathon mix a couple of years ago! Definitely makes you move…

Crazily enough the kinda song that gets me going is this song called Little Man by Tomer Yosef. It’s actually in Hebrew LOL. I like listening to the punk rock bank The Academy Is… and Anberlin. And oddly enough Virginia Colatition which is alternative rock with folk influences.

That song is awesome 🙂
The hot librarian look is always fun to do. Of course it is doubly fun if you then chase the geek chic guys around… lol

Aww, when I tried to play the clip it told me “this video is no longer available”! I wanted to confuse my cats too! 🙁

Ughhhh I like this too
And I am in love with hula hula. I tried to get it last night at sephora after my adventure at macys lancome counter but sephora was too crowded and I opted out
Looks amazing !!!

OMG Karen!! LOL…you’ve reviewed the exact 2 NARS products I bought from the spring collection. I’m so excited!
I love this lipstick!! It is so wearable and it’s also buildable.

Was at Sephora last night and they didn’t have this out! It is a beautiful shade from your pics too.
Hula Hula was even more gorgeousness in person too.
Tried to buy Tarte Bottoms Up mascara and once again – out of stock!
I had to calm my nerves with the BE Sweet Decadence pigment collection (hate BE as foundation but love the shadows) and the Dior Elegant Taupe liner.
I will have Nars dreams tonight I am sure….

unfortunately i bought this lipstick and i returned it – i really wanted to like this but it fell flat for me! it wasn’t as creamy as i hoped it could be. i did wear it with a liner and a gloss on top of it. i did try to build on it and it did nothing for me. i did keep the gloss – sweet revenge and i will go back and try the hula duo
sorry the color is pretty but i have to give this lipstick a thumbs down =(

Hi Vampy Varnish,
LOL! Tabs hasn’t exhibited any interest in hats. He’s been really into pant legs lately, go figure. 🙂

Hi Audrey,
Yes it does! It’s good for when you’re starting to feel the slump…

Hi Xtina,
I am always looking of new and different music so I will look for that song. 🙂 Thanks for the rec!

Hi Karen B.,
Hee! I’m glad you like it. I am on a Missy/Timbaland kick right now.

Hi Glosslizard,
Oh shoot… thanks for letting me know. I will try to replace it with one that works so that you can get your groove on in front of P. Lily!
Karen says
Hi Shefali,
Yes! I heart both of these, too. I wore them today while running errands. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Chris,
Hula Hula makes me drool-a, drool-a!
I haven’t tried any BE shadows. Can you recommend any good colors?
Karen says
Hi Lexi,
Oh well… I guess sometimes lipsticks just don’t work out. I hope when you return it that you like Hula Hula.
Karen says
Hi Yadiq,
Hula Hula rules! I wore it today (just the gold on my lids) and it’s really pretty. The huge flakes apply surprisingly low key…
