NARS Multiple Tint: Invading a Makeup Dream Near You

Published in: Makeup, Product Reviews

nars multiple tint review

Last night I had a makeup dream, except that in this dream there was an ice cream truck, and instead of ice cream it sold the new NARS Multiple Tints ($38 each). :)

Okay, now here’s where it gets REALLY weird. Instead of applying the sheer, buildable tints to my cheeks and lips, I gobbled ‘em up like they were sweet, creamy treats!

Available in three eye-popping shadesBeverly Hills (a bright red tint), Cadaques (a bright fuchsia tint) and Turks & Caicos (a bright orange tint) — these do look a lot like desserts, don’t they? Kinda like Push Up Pops, yum!

But don’t be fooled by their vibrant shades. Each adds just a whisper of highly wearable color.

I’ve been playing with Beverly Hills, the red shade, on my cheeks (NOTE: I also tried it on my lips but didn’t like the flavor…like an odd mix of concentrated Hawaiian Punch and Sour Patch Kids) this week, and, impressively, it lasts for a good 6-8 hours! — even without a primer.

For a quick, easy cheek flush, I swiped BH directly from its travel-friendly tube and blended out the edges with my fingers. I gave it a try on top of powder, where it worked aw-ite, but it seemed to excel on bare skin or atop foundation.

A NARS Multiple Tint tip from NARS National Trainer Janice Daoud

For a sexy flush, mix and apply Beverly Hills and Cadaques beneath the curve of each cheek. Then, add a pop of color to the apples with Turks & Caicos.

Texture wise, Multiple Tint doesn’t feel like the original NARS Multiples to me. The OG ones apply moist but dry to a powdery finish; these, however, have a wetter texture and a glossy finish not unlike the gel Cheek Stains from Tarte.

I’m a fan of Beverly Hills and might pick up the other two. I sure hope NARS considers adding these shades to the permanent line (hint hint!). Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Available now at Sephora stores, NARS counters and NarsCosmetics.com.

You might like NARS Multiple Tints if…

  • You dig cheek stains
  • You like long-wearing blushes with a (slightly) glossy finish
  • You want a fast, effortless flush
  • You like the idea of buildable color

Good mornin’!

Haaay, boo. :) I hope you slept well. Apart from the occasional odd dream, which are like free entertainment, my insomnia hasn’t been bad lately. I wonder if it’s due to the Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Extra tea I’ve been having before bed…

It’s juiced up on valerian, which makes the bags a little stinkier than the original, non-Extra version, but who cares if it works, right? One cup of this before beddy-bye and I’m out like a light!

Have a kick-@ss day today. Holla at me and let me know what’s new.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Good morning :) I have to say I wasn’t at all tempted by the colors of the new Multiples, but seeing them on you (and the NC20 skin) makes me A LOT more curious about them!

On a totally different note, have you been to the redone California Academy of Sciences? My bf and I went for the first time during “Heroes” month – when they let police, firefighters, and teachers in for free. It’s mind-bogglingly beautiful and SO COOL! And I just found out they have 21+ Night Life once or twice a week. This Thursday there’s going to be a guy doing Physics demos, plus all the normal stuff – and we just decided we’re going. I love summer for the ability to be able to choose that sort of thing – usually we have to plan way ahead of time, AND we have to avoid school nights (especially if they’re out of town!). I am SUPER excited :) Yay!

    • Karen says:

Yes, I’ve been to the new Ca. Academy of Sciences and it is AWESOME. You will love Night Life! I went once last year… I remember it well because of this lizard/beast thing:

      http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/karen-freaked-out.jpg

This picture doesn’t adequately convey my terror!

How’s the baking going? What did you make today?

      • Hyzenthlay says:

The pumpkin bread I made yesterday is quickly being demolished. I didn’t bake anything today, but I did make some cucumber/red onion/dill quick pickle things. I also set up some cold-brew coffee so that tomorrow I can have a coffee in the morning (I’ve only had tea since last week). I think tomorrow I will make something with cherries, since I just picked up a bag at Nugget and they’ll go bad within a day or so.

You should think about going to Night Life this Thursday. :) The guy doing the demo is doing all Physics things (and those are always cool . . . take it from a science teacher who has seen all sorts of science demos).

Hey Karen! I was wondering if you could please do a tutorial on her make up?? Or at least her dark lips! Thanks :)

  3. Anna says:

I’m totally all for NARS ice cream trucks. All the women on the block would come running when they hear that ice cream tune =)

  4. Masi says:

I LOVE the way it looks on your NC30 skin, but not so much on the NW20, looks like rosacea :-/

Im an NC30 as well so I’m gonna have to try this when I go back to Sephora! thanks for the review :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Masi,

Aww, it actually looks really pretty on lighter skin. Just use a little less (I built it up here so you could see the color) and blend, blend, blend!

      Have a great Tuesday. :D

  5. Nina says:

You are glowinggggg!!!! I have a tiny multiple from that gift set and I hoard it for special occasions! :)

Sleepy time – just what the doctor ordered for the Hubs. Im almost always out like a light at bedtime (mostly because im up at 515 during workdays …); he has a hard time falling asleep. Ill grab some for him when I go to the store later!

    • Karen says:

It’s delicious with a little bit of honey!

I drink a cup while I read a magazine or a book before bed. It’s very relaxing.

I can’t even fathom waking up at 5:15! Anything earlier than 6 and I’m pretty much useless. Is it hard for you to wake up at that time?

      • Nina says:

It was hard at first … like I was majorly grumpy for the first few weeks I had to do it. Now ive adjusted and found that my wakeup time during the weekend has also gotten a bit earlier … not unless I specifically decide to sleep in. :)

        • Karen says:

It must’ve been rough. I’ve tried to turn myself into an “early” early riser but my body just won’t have it! Mad props to you!

          • Nina says:

Thank you ma’am. :) What else ive learned to do because I always get to work so early is do my drugstore browsing. Yup, im prowling the aisles of Walgreens or CVS before 7am. LOL!

  6. Citrine says:

The tint looks pretty on your skin…
I am not sure if it will work for me since I am around nw20…

  7. Marian says:

I’ve been interested in these since you first featured them. They’re gorgeous! The orange one really appeals to me!

  8. Meghan says:

oooo, i might have to get the hot pink tint!

i have “just a pinch” by mac which reminds me of the beverly hills nars color…

i LOVE LOVE LOVE sleepy time tea, especially the one with the extra valerian. i also struggled with insomnia for awhile and this is one of the only things that helped!

There is also a company called “traditional medicinals” that also sells good teas for any sort of health related concern, including insomnia, they sell them at any drug store!

    • Karen says:

Oh yah… Just a Pinch! I wish MAC made more gel blushes.

What else have you tried to alleviate your insomnia? I’ve found that turning off the TV early and reading helps me to unwind.

Oh, I’ll check out that tea!

  9. Rae says:

LOL! I haven’t had a makeup dream in ages ;) Yours sounds awesome!

BH looks lovely on you. But I’m staying away from the tints, I think — I can’t stand the sticky finish of Tarte’s similar blushers! I love how they look, but not enough to trudge through the finish.
.-= Rae’s last blog post… MUFE Lab Shine: will you be indulging? =-.

  10. JillyB says:

6-8 hours? Now I definitely want to try this. Cream blushes usually just disappear on me. I really like the red on you, it’s very pretty.

  11. gio says:

The tint looks lovely on you, you’re glowing!

  12. cos-crackie says:

I bought the Turks and Caicos and wanted to experiment and see how it would look even when I’m very light (/no self tanner). It’s so sheer that it works, it just looks like juicy punched up color. But on tanned skin it looks AH-mazing, gives me that Polynesian Island girl glow that makes me want a flower in my hair too.

    Now I want the others……

  13. Tiffany says:

Hey K! That is the shade that recently arrived at my doorstop :) I have yet to try it but I think I’m gonna love it.

Hmm, what’s new with me? Well I spent all day trying (unsuccessfully) to pre-order the stupid new iPhone, and got little to no work done :(

    • Karen says:

I remember you telling me you ordered it. Let me know what you think of it once you try it on.

Funny, I was just thinking about the new iPhone this morning, because I realized that I won’t be able to use the hot pink Kate Spade cover I got for Christmas anymore. :(

What color do you think you’re going to get? The white or the black one?

      • Tiffany says:

I decided on the black one… I think. I read with previous white iphones that people said they would get tiny scratches and then dirt would build up in them, making them look obvious. I just kinda wanted white so it would look different from this phone I’ve had for 2 years. and I’m sad I won’t be able to use my case anymore either – I have this one: http://www.getuncommon.com/artwork/1669/

  14. Deb says:

I played around with the NARS multiples in a Sephora once, and I couldn’t figure out how to use them without making myself look like a sparkly teenager. I also hated the texture – too hard to apply. I know they’re a super favorite among, well, everyone, but I just didn’t get it. Maybe I’ll like these wetter multiples better.

  15. Cristina says:

Oh my, I’m a die hard NARS fan and I have been dying to try these out. Turks and caicos just calls out my name LOL. If you get it, would you consider doing a swatch? I don’t want to put myself in a commitment with the tube without seeing how the shade will look on my skin.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Cristina,

Sure. I wanted to check out the other two anyway… next time I’m at the counter I’ll bring my camera.

Which NARS products are your faves? I can’t live without Dolce Vita lipstick and the Orgasm/Laguna duo.

  16. Laurels! says:

Oh wow, see? I’m dying to try these out. I went to Sephora today to see if they have them in and….no joy. But I gotta say, that Beverly Hills Multiple Tint gives a very very nice rosy glow. Now my only dillema is how am I gonna pick? Decisions, Decisions…

  17. sarab says:

    Hi Karen,

I love how you look naturally flushed (is it the right way to say it?) in that photo. You’ve been looking lovely lately in all your pictures, what’s the secret? new skincare/foundation?? Anyways, if I could get my hands on that multiple I imagine myself going for that natural look all summer.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Sarab,

Well, I have been using a new powder in the last few pics — T. LeClerc’s loose powder in Apricot.

I hope you try one of these! What color do you like the most?

  18. Tracy says:

Wow-6-8 hours wear! That’s awesome! I really want the orange one-Turks and Caicos. It looks so beautiful!

  19. Trinidad says:

How funny! I just also read about this on the the-coveted.com! I guess the ladies have spoken! It’s something I must try. Which color do you think work well on olive skin?
.-= Trinidad’s last blog post… Summer Beach Look: Black, white, and metallic all over. =-.

  20. Haley says:

I dream waaay too much about makeup.. To the point where its kind of unhealthy, LOL. I’m not a fan of the red one for my lighter skin, but I would LOVE the orange and the pink for summer! Want!

  21. MlleDina says:

These remind me of the Tarte cheek stains – which I LOVE, and will love forever. And those work great on lips.
Also, Karen, you’re skin looks perfect, I don’t know what pores you’re talking about.
Sure, I may complain about my pores too, but honestly I don’t think a single other person sees them or cares (since I guess no one stares at our skin as closely as we do in the mirror, which is a good thing).

  22. Jennifer says:

The macro photo of the tube seriously makes it look like one of those push-up ice creams. You look so glowy with BH!

I am cream/gel blush obsessed. I really like the dewier finish, I think it makes the skin look a little more fresh/natural than a powdered-down finish. So… with that reasoning in mind… I bought all three of these. :( Turks & Caicos will be so great paired with a tan when the weather really heats up. And Beverly Hills will give the perfect just-out-from-the-cold kind of flush in the fall! :)

  23. marisol says:

I’ve never tried a cream blush on a stick. I don’t know how I feel about them.

I am looking forward to checking out the MUFE HD Blushes on my next trip to Sephora. Some of the colors look pretty amazing. Have you tried them? By the way, last night I finished Dead in the Family (the 10th Sookie Stackhouse book) and tonight I am starting The Hunger Games.

Hey Karen, you’re skin looks awesome! That’s a great picture! :)

I’m currently working my way through a Clinique blushwear cream stick (GWP that I never had the nerve to try) and I’m really liking it. These look cool too!

  25. knownever says:

I hate the multiples because they apply to dry and are not blendable enough, but the dewyness that comes across in these swatches look like what the multiples WISH they could be. I hope they put these in the permanent collection because they are defiently worth checking out

  28. Womble says:

Those nars multiple Tints are great, but they taste disgusting. Totally minging taste :-)

  29. jess says:

I am dying to try these! Are they similar to Tarte stains? I would love all 3 colors! Is the red too harsh for pale cool skin though?

Karen!! These look so amazing–lets go on a mission to get NARS to re promote these babies!
