A girl’s gotta have options, ya know?
Well, I do. I like having ’em — that’s for sure.
I’m the gal who shows up for a flight at the airport with a suitcase dedicated to black shoes (and yet when it comes to purses, why do I try to fit everything into one?).
Guess I like being prepared…
And when I find single products that provide me with options, they’re like beauty gold! — or beauty pirate treasure, as in the case of Bobbi Brown’s Foundation Sticks.
When it comes to foundation, I also like options. The more the merrier. Options for different occasions, like tinted moisturizer for casual days, medium-coverage liquid foundations for weekdays, full-coverage stuff for pictures — and don’t even get me started about finishes and textures; we’ll be here ’til the next season of The Walking Dead.
Since I found Bobbi Brown’s $43 Foundation Stick in Honey (my shade, and one of 20 available now in Bobbi’s permanent line on counters and online), I haven’t wanted to use anything else.
I’ve worn it every day this month because, in a nutshell, it rocks. 🙂
One of Bobbi’s top makeup artists, Marc Reagan, introduced me to it at the Saks Fifth Avenue Bobbi Brown Master class a few weeks back, referring to it as “one thing every woman needs in her makeup bag.”
Homeboy was SO RIGHT! I’m this close to sending him a fruit basket with a note that reads, “Thank you for changing my life!”
First of all, it’s like Mr. Fantastic (read: flexible). Because it’s able to go from sheer to full coverage in the blink of an eye, it’s basically like getting a bunch of different face products in a single creamy stick.
Say I want a sheer look like a tinted moisturizer — very light coverage. I’ll just load a fan brush with product directly from the stick. And when I want a more polished look for pics or events — medium to full coverage — I’ll use a flat foundation brush instead.
Oh, and it even doubles as concealer! To disguise the little darkened, post-acne spots I have on my chin, I swipe a synthetic sponge across the tip, which I then pat wherever I need extra coverage. If I need a touch-up later in the day, I just reapply on top of whatever else I happen to be wearing, since it layers like a boss on top of cream and powder products.
I almost can’t trick the stuff. No matter how I wear it, I think it looks like real, skin because it has one of those matte finishes with a bit life to it. It’s not completely flat.
It also never, ever feels heavy or like it’s suffocating my pores, and it doesn’t oxidize. It lasts on my combination dry/oily skin all day long, but I’m not sure how it would fare on super oily skin types… I have a feeling the creamy formula might scoot away.
Seriously, I have no idea how I made it through my days without this (well, I do, but you know what I mean). I love it.
Cat lady things, part 3,623
Thought you might appreciate this book my cat lady friend Heidi gave me as a gift last week.
(I started reading it to Tabs, but he wasn’t amused…) 🙂
The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorite permanent collection products from a variety of bodacious beauty brands. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have a Bobbi Brown compact that I ordered from QVC ages ago that includes concealer, corrector, powder, and the stick foundation in little sections. Great for carrying around in the purse for touch-ups. You just reminded me how much I like the formula of the stick foundation. Now, which purse did I stash that in….?
I’m surprised Tabs was willing to pose with the book. It’s not exactly showing cats in a flattering light, is it? : )

LOL cat servant? We are no servant. Servants get PAID! We are slaves and will be slaves for life. Let’s face it 😉
You look goooood with this on, girl! Actually I think you just sold that to me. I never looked into foundation sticks because I have the impression that they’ll provide too much coverage or have a heavy texture, but who knew Bobbi Brown did this so well? Need to lay my hands on one and experiment now!

I don’t think this would be ideal for my super oily skin, but I LOVE Bobbi Brown’s base products. The cream foundation compact is also a favorite of mine. Despite being a cream, it works surprisingly well for my skin. Also love the touch up stick for on the go!

I would like to try it. Looks very interesting. And I love that cat book. Btw, a few weeks ago I had a weird dream that I was getting a make over at Sephora and they used Nars Sheer Glow foundation on me and I loved it. So this weekend I was at Sephora and I got a sample of it and I am in love.

I love this stick too! I tend to have really good skin without much acne except on my child where I have some acne and acne scars. This wonderful little stick allows me to use tinted moisturizers and then get the little bit of extra coverage on my chin without dealing with a whe other liquid foundation product!

Hi Karen,
I think I might have to try this stick now after such a glowing review! The stick does sound quite convenient!

I got one during Chic Week from Sephora, and am loving it! It’s great because I can wear foundation just where I need it, and it blends right in. They also have a great color selection.
I remember CoverGirl and Maybelline having foundation sticks back 10 or 15 years ago, and I wish more brands did them! They’re so convenient!

It’s a really nice foundation.
Love the book! I have to agree about the power nap… :p

You know, I have owned this product forEVER (it was one of the first base products I bought – I had a BB makeover and the girl used Skin foundation all over and the foundation stick as a concealer for my red nose area) but I have never tried it all over my face. I should do that someday just for fun.
Sarah says
I never tried the Bobbi Brown foundation stick. Maybe I need to give this one a try. I’m always confused between foundation sticks & liquid foundations since I have combination skin. :S
The book is super cute & so funny. 🙂

Hmmm, the stick is very interesting. Can you just dab and apply with your fingers?
Very cute cat book. And so darn true about the puking. 🙁

I forgot about this foundation! I have the BBU palette and I haven’t used it on myself in a while. And I remember the first time I tried this foundation out on myself I was very impressed.

Added to my Bobbi Brown wishlist! I hope Bobbi Brown starts retailing in India soon.

I alternate between using Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation and her Skin Foundation Mineral Makeup and I love both, but have been wanting to try the Foundation Stick, also. It would be great to have that to throw in a purse!
