Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick by theBalm

The new Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipsticks by theBalm ($17 each)

“Ladies and lipstick-loving gentlemen, allow me to introduce my friend here. He’s from theBalm, he costs $17, and his name is Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick. Go on, Matt(e)! Say hi to everyone.”

[THE SOUND OF CRICKETS CHIRPING…]

“Oops, I’m sorry. You’ll have to excuse Matt(e). He’s not much of a talker on account of him being a liquid lipstick with a matte finish.”

thebalm devoted
theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes in Devoted

“Matt(e) and I have been ‘friends’ for a few weeks now 🙂 — yes, ever since he showed up in theBalm’s permanent collection — and, well, I thought you might like to meet him because we’re getting pretty serious…”

thebalm sentimental
theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes in Sentimental

“Yup, he’s everything my lips have ever wanted — Adoring (a merlot), Loyal (a deep red), Devoted (a bright red), Sentimental (a warm magenta), Charming (a rich mauve), Honest (a warm coral), Committed (a pinkish nude) and Chivalrous (a warm magenta).”

thebalm charming
theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes in Charming

“We’re so compatible too! I mean, when he touches me with his doe-foot and — ohmigoodness! — softly caresses my lips, he leaves behind full-coverage opaque color and a lightweight, non-sticky formula that tastes and smells like minty vanilla.”

thebalm honest
theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes in Honest

“I heard a rumor that he’s afraid of commitment, but I don’t know about that… Whenever we hang out, he doesn’t stray for at least four or five hours, and he’s not one of those flaky matte liquid lipsticks that breaks up on your lips in that time, either. He doesn’t even mind when my lips are dry. He’s always down to make out.”

thebalm committed
theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes in Committed

“I’d be totally OK if you wanted to give him a kiss.”

[CONFUSED STARES]

“I’m serious! Just to test him out. 🙂 I want him back though.”

Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick by theBalm

  • They’re new to theBalm’s permanent line and available now in eight $17 shades.
  • Full-coverage matte liquid lipsticks with a moderately moisturizing formula, and compared to most matte liquid lipsticks, they feel fantastic.
  • As they fade (and also after meals), they leave behind a pretty matte stain.
  • The minty vanilla flavor and scent are kind of strong…like peppermint candy. I like it, but I’m just saying.
  • They’re very easy to apply with the doe-foot applicator, and you can even skip using a lip liner if you want.
  • The shades I’ve been wearing the most are coral Honest and pinkish nude Committed, both of which I think are excellent everyday colors.

PRICE: $17 each
AVAILABILITY: Permanent, and available now online and at theBalm counters in eight shades

I love the look of Devoted and Honest, I think they’re very pretty summery shades. I’m digging the liquid lipstick matte trend so these are going on my list to try 🙂

I really like the Stila Stay All Day Liquid lipsticks and the Sephora Cream Lip Stains, they’re both very comfortable to wear and don’t dry your lips as much.

The reds! The reds! They’re so pretty. Sounds like the formula is “dry lip friendly.” Which are the only lippies my pucker will date =)

Yes they are! Usually liquid lipsticks suck all the moisture outta my lips but these don’t do that.

My brother and nephew were visiting from France! We did some sight-seeing and they wanted to go the beach, so we spent a lot of time there. It was really fun but I got sunburnt on my scalp :/ My fault for not wearing a hat, but man that’s painful…

Oh no! I’m so sorry, that must hurt like a mofo. Do you have an aloe plant around? Aloe gel isn’t fancy but it works. Glad you were able to spend some quality time with your family though.

Some of these look slightly metallic – is it the pictures or are these not entirely matte? I’d totally love a metallic matte.

      Hi Anna,

Committed and Charming have a tiny bit of sheen in pics, but I think that’s because of the flash. In regular day light they’re matte.

Are these comparable to the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks? I know the application is a bit different (since those are a squeeze tube and these have a doe foot applicator) but they’re supposedly both liquid lipsticks.

I’ve worn the Too Faced ones, and I like these a little more. They’re lighter on the lips and less drying. 🙂

Karen, I have used Stainaic by The Balm …I think that was the name and liked it. But it didn’t stay as long as I had hoped. Love using a matte stain though. Hope this will last longer. How long did it stay for you and which is your favorite color?

Devoted, Charming and Loyal caught my eye! Until I got to the part about them being minty, vanilla scented. Yuk! I like my lippies unscented. I can barely tolerate MAC and lately I’ve been tossing the Chanels because of the scent.

I absolutely love matte lipsticks, particularly MAC’s All Fired Up and Flat Out Fabulous but I hear the ABH liquid Lipsticks were really drying on the lips. After hearing these are even a little moisturising, I’m thinking they are deffo worth a try. I just hope they can be bought in Scotland.
