Yummy for yo’ tummy
I keep finding so many great noms at at my home away from home Trader Joe’s! Mango bars, dark chocolate stars, those popped potato chips, that red pepper spread, and now TJ’s Vanilla Flavored Coconut Milk?
YUM!
Your comments about food and beauty issues here the other day, and this article on breakouts, milk and sugar, prompted me to try (“try” being the key word here) to eat less dairy for a while.
We’ll see how it goes… I sure do love ice cream, but I think I can live without it for a few weeks.
Or days.
I was really surprised to like the taste of this coconut milk as much as I do. I don’t know, I just I expected it to have a consistency more like soy milk, rice milk or almond milk, but it’s a little thicker than those and doesn’t have much of an aftertaste.
So yum! Give it a try with some Trader Joe’s Honey Graham Crackers.
WARNING: The crackers are almost as addictive as those popped potato chips…
LOL! Maybe I should change the domain name of this blog to makeupbeautyandfoodblog.com. 🙂 Or makeupbeautycatstravelandfoodblog.com, haha!

My skin is a lot happier without dairy, but I’m a lot happier with the occasional ice cream or Pinkberry! I love the So Delicious coconut milk creamer in my chai. Gives it a richer mouthfeel and lovely flavor.
Karen says
Oh, that sounds delicious. I’ll have to try that with my powdered Big Train Chai!
Happy Friday, btw. What’s going on for the weekend?
steph b says
It is delish! But really, you gotta start brewing your own chai. Soooo much better.
This weekend is a non-mommies mother’s day brunch with a friend I haven’t seen in a ridiculously long time. Also, Bike DC — they close off some of the roads along the National Mall and the scenic parkways along the Potomac and let bikers enjoy. Great mix of families and Tour de France wannabes all having fun.
Hope you have some fun too!
Karen says
I’ve tried a few blends but have yet to find one that I love. The ones I’ve tried are all to spicy. What brand do you like to drink?
Sounds like you’ve got some fun things lined up. I hope the weather is nice for your bike ride. Speaking of bikes, I need to dust my mountain bike off … it’s been way too long since I’ve spent quality time with it. 🙂
steph b says
I switch it up depending on what I have on hand. Usually simmer some cardamom, cinnamon, clove, ginger, peppercorns for a while and then steep tea in that. Strain and chill. The tea will keep a few days in the fridge. I mix in the milk, soy, or coconut just before serving. If you want it less spicy, steep the spices for less time or use less of them. Really my fav for summer.
We’re supposed to have gorgeous weather this weekend! Going to bike overload with my fun ride and watching the Giro di Italia. You’ve got to dust off that bike!
Karen says
Hmm. I never thought to try making my own. Do you just use regular black tea?
It’s supposed to be really nice here this weekend, too. The sun just set and it’s still warm enough to walk around in shorts. Feels like summer already.
So, I just checked my mountain bike (I have a Kona and it’s currently on a bike stand next to my treadmill). Two flat tires, and of course I can’t find my pump! Time to go digging in the garage …
steph b says
Yep- regular black tea works well. I’ve tried a few different types and have pretty much liked them all. It is really forgiving. I leave out things if I don’t have them.
Give that Kona some love!
Karen says
Okay, so I might try it with a little bit of cinnamon, clove and teensy bit of pepper. I have some darjeeling on hand, so that should work for my black tea. My issue is the pre-made brands I’ve been trying is the heat! Can’t deal with too much spice in my tea … although, I did have an amazing spicy strawberry lemonade made with Thai chili from the food trucks last week, and that was really, really good.
Are you a mountain biker or a road biker?
steph b says
If it turns out too spicy, you can always dilute with more plain tea until you get the balance you want.
I’m a road cyclist. Or at least I want to be. I just got my bike a couple months ago.

I heard they used to give babies coconut milk instead of formula back in the fifties, but stopped because it was really high in saturated fat. My older co worker told me this.
Karen says
Interesting! I’d never heard of that. I wonder why they were giving babies coconut milk instead of formula, hmm.
Hope you had a great Friday. Any exciting plans for the weekend?
Vijaya says
Coconut milk made my tongue itchy when I had it. Mild allergy maybe? In any case, I didn’t want to try it again, just in case.
Karen says
Sounds like a good idea.
Chelsea says
Ugh, I feel better with less dairy, but I’m already gluten-free, and I love yogurt, though I usually use almond milk on cereal.
Your lashes look nice! I’ve been alternating DiorShow and CoverGirl Lash Blast 24 Hour (which is pretty heavy duty, but it REALLY holds the curl!)
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
I love yogurt too. And cheese! I didn’t realize how much dairy I actually ate until now. We’ll see how long I last …
Are you using the original DiorShow?
Chelsea says
Yup, the original DiorShow, but Sephora had a limited edition color (Mitzah, a bronzy brown) for $14.50. I tend to look better in brown mascara anyway, since I’m very fair. It doesn’t hold a curl as well as the LashBlast 24 Hour (which makes sense, waterproof mascaras usually hold the curl better), but it makes my lashes look nice and fluffy, and it was a great price! This LE color doesn’t seem to have the flowery scent that most Dior mascaras have either (it’s kind of weird to smell roses and realize it’s your eyelashes…)
Karen says
And it doesn’t smudge on you? Lucky! I used to wear the black shade and it smudges along my lower lash line. I keep meaning to try the blue one because I have a friend who swears by it, but the smudge issue keeps me away.
Chelsea says
Yeah, no smudging, and I usually have trouble with mascaras!
Karen says
Lucky! You should try the blue one just for fun one day. When my friend wears it her lashes look amazing!
Heidi says
A friend came over tonight and brought over HER latest discovery from Trader Joe’s — the coconut milk non-dairy ice cream. OMG! We had the chocolate — AMAZING!
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
This brush is HUUUGE! I’d prefer a mascara that keep my curls up though, so maybe this one is not for me! I’m relatively OK with a tiny bit of smudging, but if something doesn’t hold my curls then it’s a real bummer!
Katherine G says
I really love ScandalEyes. That one’s my new fave as far as drugstore mascaras go. It’s the drugstore version of Dior Show for me. I tend to layer it underneath CoverGirl LashBlast Volume in Black Emerald. Maybelline Lash Stiletto has been a good waterproof mascara – lasts all day and doesn’t smudge. I wear contacts so I absolutely can’t have a mascara that flakes.
Nina says
I generally LOVE Rimmel mascaras – the price is right and their formulation and wands cannot be beat! 🙂
