MAC Parrot rocks down to Electric Avenue
Face of the Day with MAC Parrot
This is a really easy face of the day that I wore to work today. It took just five minutes to do my eyes.
To get this look I used:
Eyes
Brows – MAC Concrete
Brow bone – MAC Ricepaper eyeshadow
Crease – MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow
From lashline and then barely into crease, with the color most concentrated on lashline – MAC Parrot eyeshadow
Outer V – MAC Club eyeshadow
Top lashline and on waterline – MAC Jadeye Fluidline eyeliner
Inner corner – MAC Vex eyeshadow
Lower lashline – MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow
Underneath eyes and on lids – MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer in NW 25
Upper and lower lashes – Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Mascara in black
Cheeks
NARS Torrid blush
Lips
MAC Princely lipstick
MAC Enchantress lipgloss
Other ways to modify this look:
– Line top lashline and/or waterline with Blacktrack Fluidline liner, and then liner bottom lashline with Jadeye Fluidline.
– Line top lashline and/or waterline with Blacktrack and leave lower lashline bare!
– Line top or bottom lashline with Uppity Fluidline.
– Use Jadeye Fluidline as a base on from lashline into crease instead of Select Moisturecover concealer to intensify Parrot’s color.
– Using a wet 266 brush, apply Club (the color, not the weapon) onto bottom lash line.
– Make the look smokier using Club in the crease.
Yup, it’s official. Me likes the MAC Parrot.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Sweet! That looks really nice!!! I’ll have to try that look sometime. I don’t have any MAC cosmetics, but I have benefit’s show offs! They are these powders for your eyes in these really bold colors. You can wear them as sheer or as bold as you like. I have it in pink, but now I want to buy it in a similar color, so I can replicate this look!!
Sandy says
Ooh. I’m starting to like MAC Parrot. But still contemplating whether to get it or not 🙂 I’m looking for a stick foundation. Not sure which one to get =/
SarahM says
What a gorgeous shade. I wasn’t sure after you talked about it yesterday, but on you it’s beautiful. I’m sold. Now all I need is some event to go to wearing it. I’m not brave enough to wear parrot to the office. I’m a chicken not a parrot!
Emilee says
That’s a gorgeous look! I had Parrot when it was first released, got rid of it, now I just bought 4 more. 😛
nilla cookie says
I love it Karen! I like how you can play down the color so that it’s wearable to work as well.
I picked up Parrot yesterday and was thinking that the color would be too bright, but not any more! Looks like I’ll be playing with some new colors this weekend 🙂
Karen says
Hi Alissa,
I had one Benefit Show Off waaaaay back in the day. I think I gave it to my cousin years ago! They remind me a lot of MAC Pigments. Have you ever tried those?
Karen says
Hi Sandy,
Maybe you should get it and give it a go. You can always return it – or better yet, you could probably swap it for some good shizz on makeup alley or something.
Definitely look into Becca’s stick foundation! I did a post on it earlier today. I LOVE IT!
Karen says
Aww, SarahM, you can totally rock this to the office. I am the biggest chicken when it comes to color! Trust me, if I can do it, you can too. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Emilee,
It’s surprisingly pretty versatile for such a bright shade, yes? I think I’ll wear it tomorrow with some Vex, oooh!
Karen says
Hey Nilla,
If it’s too bright for you use a fluffy brush, like the MAC 217. I find that it diffuses the color so it isn’t as BAM! You’ll totally fall in love, trust me 🙂
nilla cookie says
Thanks for the brush tip!
I’m sort of lame when it comes to brushes. I only have like 4 brushes but it’s been enough for to get by. I really want to branch out; what are your favorite basic brushes?
Mrs. Lynne says
Hey K. Love this look on you! Parrot really compliments your skin. I think I’m going to try this out, it’s so simple but gorgeous.
Mrs. Lynne says
Btw, what eyeshadow base works for you?
Jenny says
Hi Karen!
I just bought parrot today.. like I said, I HAD to buy it. I love it!! Anyhow, I know this question is really “off the topic” but.. who does your eyebrows? I love it! Do you have it tweezed/waxed or threaded?
Jane says
O M G. Parrot is seriously the most awesome eyeshadow! I love how it looks on you as a liner! I’ve had a Parrot e/s from back in the 2005 Jewel Eyes palette and up to now, it remains my favorite! Can’t wait for the Originals to come out in Singapore!
Karen says
Hi Nilla,
I like…
MAC 182 for foundation
MAC 217 for both application/blending of eyeshadows. In a pinch you can use this for concealer, which I’ve done.
MAC 266 for brows
MAC 187 for blushes
MAC 272 for the outer V
Hmm, I tried to keep it to four but that just didn’t happen. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Mrs. Lynne!
You would totally rock this! Can’t wait to see the results 🙂
Karen says
Oh, Mrs. Lynne, for this look I just used concealer (MAC Select Moisture). I think I might try it with Indianwood Paint Pot, or with my good ole’ standby, MAC Paint in Bare Canvas 🙂
Speaking of eyeshadow bases, I think I’ll pop by the MAC counter to check out some shadesticks.
Karen says
Hi Jenny 🙂
LOL, I do them myself. I have this weird control issue with my brows, and I am totally paranoid that somebody’s gonna tweeze/wax/thread ’em off, so I pluck underneath the brow (never on top), and then small cuticle scissors to trim down unruly hairs. I am VERY CAREFUL with the scissors as they are obvs incredibly sharp and I have no desire to poke the hell out my eye. They tend to naturally fade out around the arch and toward the end, so I fill ’em in with MAC Concrete shadow and a 266 brush.
If you need any brow tips let me know, I’m happy to help 🙂
Karen says
Hi Jane,
I’m sure you’ll love the entire collection. I went by the counter the other day and the shadows, especially, are very pretty. I’ll have swatches up today or tomorrow! Have a good weekend if I don’t talk to you.
AshB says
Ooh, this looks wonderful on you! I tried Woodwinked and Parrot yesterday, and I think I overblended the two and it turned into one big teal/brown muddy mess. I should try again today with this post as a tutorial. practice practice.
nilla cookie says
Thanks for the recommendations Karen! I already have the 266 and have been using it for as long as I can remember! I’m definitely going to look into the others when I get a chance. 😀
Karen says
Hi AshB,
Thanks again for recommending this combo! I hear ya about a big muddy mess – that’s the story of my eyeshadow life, LOL. Sometimes I get lucky, like in the look above, which was pretty darn easy considering I was in a hurry. Anyway, one thing that might help is to to apply the Woodwinked first, then the Parrot, and then to gently blend the lines slowly without over-blending.
Lemme know how it turns out 🙂
Karen says
Hi Nilla,
Whatever you do don’t buy those brushes on ebay. I had a girlfriend who tried to buy a MAC brush and it was a NIGHTMARE for her.
BTW, I’m reviewing a few brushes from billy b. right now and they’re pretty frickin’ wonderful, especially the eye brushes.
TUPRNUT says
Awesome look, Karen. Really fun and so beautiful.
I saw this color when I visited the MAC counter on Wednesday, and let’s just say it scared me! But you created such a great look with it. Are you going to be the one to break me out of my neutral color shell?
Happy Friday! Can’t wait to hear what you have to say about the rest of the line.
Glosslizard says
Love love LOVE IT! An absolutely gorgeous look! I think you just single-handedly sparked the second mass-lemming on Parrot!
Mrs. Lynne says
I’m going to check out shadesticks too. I’m having a color enhancing/base fetish and am wondering if this would work. Let me know how it works for you.
anna says
Write more often, please!!Seriously please.Thanks!
Daneen says
Gorgeous!
Daneen says
Oh…and I love the Electric Avenue reference. That was one of my favorite songs when I was 5. I had the 45 and played it non-stop on my Fisher Price record player. Shout out to Eddy Grant.
Karen says
Parrot is your friend, Tuprnut! You could totally rock it with your neutrals. (I’m thinking it would be a pretty accent to Soba). It’s actually not that scary if you use a fluffy brush and go slowly with the layering of color! 🙂
Karen says
LOL, Glosslizard! You better get that Parrot, girl! 🙂
Karen says
Will do, Mrs. Lynne. I love how different bases bring out different intensities in shadows! I just hope they have good staying power. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Anna,
I’ll do my best 🙂 Happy holidays!
Karen says
Hi Daneen,
Thanks for stopping by! I’m so glad you got the “Electric Avenue” ref, LOL 🙂 Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Mrs. Lynne says
You and me both. Creasing is my enemy.
Karen says
Mrs. Lynne, Do you ever use Urban Decay Potion Primer?
BTW, right now I’m really craving hot Leonard’s malasadas.
Mrs. Lynne says
Yes ma’am. I use UDPP all the time. Is that what you use under paint pots and such? Or do you use them on their own, like one or the other? I’m actually very scared to put anything on my eyes without UDPP and will layer other things on top.
Oh Leonards. Yes, those are very very good 🙂
Karen says
Yeah, if I need staying power I’ll put em under the Paints. I hardly use them on their own if I have to blend lots of colors in a complicated eye. But I like it for single pops of color, or underneath the lower lashline.
There used to be a Leonard’s truck right down the street from my in-law’s house. Damn that thing was the sh*t. I could go there every day.
Mrs. Lynne says
They are!! We were supposed to pick some up the other morning but ended up with Foodland donuts out of convenience. They got nothing on Leonards.
Karen says
True, true – especially when they are hot and super fresh!
Maybe Santa will bring me some Malasadas! Holy crap, that would make my Christmas.
