As a card-carrying member of MAC’s Mineralize Rich Lipstick Club, I suspected the five shades in the new Tropical Taboo collection would be the business, and MAC did not let me down.
Smoother than Ryan Gosling on roller stakes, more satisfying than unbuttoning my skinny jeans after a big meal (or taking off my bra after a long day) and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound! — these moisturizing, lightweight lippies are super fab.
Lightweight and loaded with moisture, they feel like a balm on my lips, but they’re also packed with full-coverage, easy-to-control color. I can wear ’em without a lip liner and don’t need a lip brush to apply, even with the more intense colors like Midnight Mambo and Lady at Play.
I get so fired up just talking about some of these, like Lady at Play (so bright), Glamour Era (looks a little like Twig) and Divine Choice, that I have to fan myself! Those are the three that raise my temperature the most. All three easily transition from day to night (yay for flexibility!).
For pure drama, there’s Midnight Mambo. Watch for it to flash slightly blue at times.
Luxe Naturale, the light beige, tends to break up on my lips at first, so I pat it down to distribute the color and even it out. For me, Naturale’s the least exciting member of this bunch, but that’s not saying a lot because I still think it’s pretty great… Could be a very useful layering shade.
Additional MAC Tropical Taboo makeup worn in this look:
- Mineralize Eye Shadows in Dare to Bare, Tropic and Bossa Blue (lids)
- Kohl Powder Eye Pencils in Feline and Orpheus (lash lines)
- Mineralize Skinfinish in Rio (cheeks)
When I opened these for the first time, I noticed that a couple of them had melted around the edges, so if you live someplace warm, be careful. I wouldn’t leave these in your car. I’m actually thinking about storing mine in the fridge…right next to the chia pudding. 🙂
PRICE: $22 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now online, and coming to MAC stores and counters June 27

yay! i’m so scared to try bright colours. well, it’s because i put on minimal make up. yes, still haven’t figured a day to sit in the MAC chair, to get schooled on eyeliner/eyeshadow application. :/ i like the Glamour Era shade. it’s a nice neutral colour, in comparison to the others you have in this post. i wanted to try the mineralize lipsticks the 2nd time i purchased from MAC, but the colours didn’t speak to me. do they feel way better on your lips?
my lips have been flaking like crazy since we moved here, a year ago. it has it’s moments of nice smoothness, but never when i need it to be. (of course, right?! LoL) after wearing MAC lipstick, my lips seem to feel “normal” and have a smooth day. i might have to give the mineralize lipsticks a try. since you state that a lipliner or lipbrush is not needed, it sounds like my kind of lipstick! (low maintenance, remember? hahhha.)
have a lovely night, karen! i can’t believe it’s already thursday! :/

Karen, girl, you are such an enabler! I must say that today I went to Nordstrom Rack and picked up some Zella leggings because I admired all your awesome active wear. Let me just say, I never go into Nordstrom Rack, Ross, TJMaxx because I have a crazy toddler in tow. Thanks for the workout inspiration! By the way, I think Glamour Era looks killer on you. I might have to go to a MAC store this summer to check out the new collections.

I love midnight mambo, it looks amazing on you. But if I were to buy one, it’d be glamour era! 🙂

Hey Karen,
My hubby just created my very own blog, Yay! So that there will be harmony in our household and due to the fact that he can’t make me stop from buying makeup. Ha.
The only limited from these mineralized lippies, is the Midnight Mambo. I thought it’s as intense as Heroine but it wasn’t 🙁
I love the MSF from this collection, not so much with the blushes they’ll accentuate my pores.

I just received my RiRi Woo in the mail and I’m so glad I got it despite the difficulty in application. The color is amazing! I will definitely have to try these too!

Lady at Play is absolutely gorgeous but I do think it’s way too bright/bold for my skintone and what I am used to wearing.

Glamour Era is definitely my fave but something about full coverage lipsticks makes me think more of fall or winter. Even then, I’m much more comfortable with more sheer color. That said, these look fab on you and sound like they’d be prefect for full coverage gals! 🙂

Ooo, these are pretty! I may have to check out Midnight Mambo 🙂
