I don’t care that I look a little pervy when I rub my lips back and forth and mutter, “Mmmm…” under my breath after applying these MAC Cremesheen Glass lip glosses. I don’t care that my big toe throbs because I’m always dropping the tubes, which, by the way, are bigger and heavier than MAC Plushglasses and Lipglasses, on my foot (hurts like a mother!). I don’t care that I must spend half my day digging around in my purse looking for ’em, either, since I have to reapply them every couple hours.
The MAC Cremesheen Glasses are some of the most comfortable, most moisturizing glosses I’ve used, and my dry lips love ’em, which is why I always make room for them in my makeup bag.
The four creamy $20 shades in the Tropical Taboo collection are available online now, in stores and on counters.
There’s not a lot of big, flashy glitter in pale peach Calypso Beat, coral Fever Isle, pale pink Japanese Spring or eggplant Narcissus, and yet they shine. I think they pair perfectly with the Mineralize Rich Lipsticks, too, and contrast well with Tropical Taboo’s shimmery eyes and cheeks.
Additional MAC Tropical Taboo makeup worn in this look:
- Mineralize Eye Shadows in Dare to Bare, Tropic and Bossa Blue (lids)
- Kohl Powder Eye Pencils in Feline and Orpheus (lash lines)
- Mineralize Skinfinish in Rio (cheeks)
Of course, they’re also crazy hydrating. Next time I have to take a long flight (blast that dry, recycled airplane air), I’m bringing Calypso Beat and Japanese Spring with me. They’re so sheer that I can slick ’em on without needing a mirror, and they add just enough color without leaving me looking like I’m trying too hard. Plus, unlike some pale, sheer glosses, the pigment doesn’t look patchy on my lips. Just smooth and even.
Being more pigmented than the other two, Fever Isle and Narcissus aren’t as effortless. I definitely need lip liner to keep them in place and a mirror to apply, but I don’t mind, because I love how flexible they are. I can wear just a little if I want to go sheer, or build them up when I’m in the mood for something bolder.
You can’t really go wrong with any of these shades, but if I had to pick faves, I’d go with Calypso Beat and Fever Isle. Calypso Beat is just gorgeous for a peachy nude lip that isn’t too pale or frosty, and Fever Isle just says “Summer” to me. 🙂
PRICE: $20 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at MAC stores, counters and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A
New alarm clock
I usually wake up to a tabby alarm clock, but I’ve been using something different lately…
The finch family that lives on the deck outside my bedroom goes bat sh*t crazy at 5 a.m. every morning, ON THE DOT. They chirp and whistle and sing, and yeah, it’s a pretty cool way to wake up. I just wish they had a snooze button.
I feel like I’ve been awake since the dawn of time…
Anywho, have yourself a lovely Thursday, okay?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Cremesheen glass are the only glosses from MAC that I can wear, the others are too sticky for me! I didn’t get any of these new shades, I wish I ordered Fever Isle though because it’s gorgeous!
Karen says
Ooh, what did you order? MAC had free overnight shipping on their website and I did some stocking up.
CrystalCandy says
Adored, Rio, Simmer and Sweet Samba! 🙂 I did get Simmer for free though, because there was an error on the website.
Kiss & Make-up says
I love how these are all so moisturizing! I don’t care how gorgeous a lip product is, I don’t want it if it doesn’t keep my lips hydrated.
P.S.: As annoying as your personal wake-up caller over there is… he sure looks pretty! 🙂 Try sleeping with ear plugs, that’s what I do.
Karen says
I feel ya. My lips are so dry, dry, dry! It drives me nuts. Between these and the Clarins Instant Lights, I’m one happy camper.
Great idea to wear ear plugs. I have to sometimes wear them when El Hub’s snoring gets out of control, LOL! What wakes you up in the morning? Birds?
Agata says
I like the Calypso Beat and Island Fever. Can you believe I have never had any Mac cremesheens? Btw, your hair is getting really long, isn’t it?
Karen says
I need to cut it! I keep meaning to make a salon appointment but then the day catches up with me.
The Cremesheens are really beautiful if you like non-sticky glosses. They don’t last long, but that’s the trade off, I guess. 🙂
Did you see that MAC had free overnight shipping today on the website? I did some stocking up!
Agata says
I need to get a trim too. Im getting my hair highlighted next week so I guess then would be a good time.
Yes, I got an email with the overnight free shipping info. What did you get? Maybe you will inspire me 🙂
Karen says
Ooh nice! Are you going lighter or darker this time?
I had to mostly do restocking of things that I need/use (Face & Body Foundation, Natural Radiance Primer, Careblends Pressed Powder) and eyeshadows for my 15-pan palette (Era, Honesty and Twinks) that I’ve been meaning to pick up for forever.
Agata says
I think I will just do the same blond with occasional brown underneath. I absolutely love this combination. And I need to look pretty for my sister-in-law’s wedding on the 6th! I am still trying to figure out what to do with my hair. I am doing her make up for the big day and I am a bit nervous although I did a trial make up on her last Friday and she was in love with the make up I did :))
Karen says
Cute, cute! I’ve seen your pics in Instagram and your hair always looks great. 🙂 And of course I’m always jealous of blondes having more fun, LOL!
Congrats to your sister-in-law, that’s very exciting that you’re doing her makeup. I’m sure the trial you did was flawless. You’ll do a great job on the big day.
Iris says
I’ll have to keep these glosses in mind. I’m always looking for glosses which moisturise along with providing lip colour.
The birds in my area have started singing at 3:30 a.m. sometimes when it’s pitch black outside. Thankfully, my baby bird doesn’t join in.
That is annoying when they wake you up too early, especially when you wanted to sleep in.
Karen says
Oh, you have a baby bird?! You’re so lucky. What’s his/her name? And what kind of bird? I would love to have birds, but you know, Tabs. Sigh. So the finch family is the next best thing.
Iris says
He’s a blue-purplish parakeet or budgie. He’s actually an adult but we call him the baby bird as his name is Baby. We got him when he was tiny. He’s grown up now but still acts rather rambunctious. 🙂
Karen says
How sweet! I love pets with personality. Do you guys let him fly around the house, or does he have his own special enclosure?
Iris says
Sorry for the late response. Baby has his own enclosure area right beside our living room where he can see and interact with us often. We’d let him fly around but we’re afraid he’d hurt himself. He gets into things and tried to eat my gloves once when I set them too close to him. He does have quite a bit of personality.
Sunny says
OOO the finch is SO cute! All round and red and sleepy (after having woken you up haha)!
I like how Fever Isle looks the most (duh), but I think my Guerlain Candy Strip is reasonably similar. Glad to hear they’re crazy hydrating as well!
Karen says
He’s just one of many cute finches that hang out on our deck. I’ve seen yellow ones too, SO CUTE! 😀
Jaimie says
I absolutely love Japanese Spring and Calypso Beat… I will definitely be adding those to my collection the next time I visit MAC 🙂 Thanks for the swatches!
camille says
!!!!!! oh no. i’m headed to town square tomorrow (outdoor mall, i guess you could say) and i might have to test these items in person! your posts are soooooo tempting, karen! i like the ‘fever isle’. not too bright, but bright enough (if that makes sense). and i’ll have to swatch some of the lipsticks 🙂
Karen says
I was just wearing that color, how funny! 🙂 Do you have a lot of corals in your collection? If you do, Fever Isle would be a nice addition. You could use it as a layering gloss.
Sharon says
Hi Karen, I’m new to your website as of last week and you should see the huge list of I-WANTS that I have to order after reading some of your posts!
I was going to place a ‘little’ order with MAC for Prunella and Indianwood and Syrup lipstick and eyeshadows in mulch and humid…but before I hit submit I just had to check to see what you’re up to today…..
Oh no! How on earth am I not going to order Divine Choice, Simmer, Calypso Beat AND Fever Isle! Help! My name is Sharon and I’m addicted to make-up! Ahhhh but what a way to go!
Thank you for your fabulous posts everyday. I am LOVING it!!
And btw, Tabs is a handsome devil!
Karen says
Hi Sharon,
It’s nice to meet you! Got a nice little haul going there, I see. Lots of GREAT colors that you can wear for summer! I love all of those shades. 🙂
Did you decide on your Tropical Taboo items? I’m just about to put on the Rio Mineralize Skinfinish. Wore it last night to dinner and loved it!
Sharon says
I did. I had to get the Calypso Beat and Fever Isle. I’m excited to try these non-sticky glosses. I was giving up home that any even existed!
I haven’t tried the Skinfinishes yet. Maybe Rio will be on my next order!
Karen says
Oh nice! I have Calypso Beat on my desk right now. It’s a nude lip kinda day, I think.
I hope you like the Cremesheens. They’re SUPER comfy and moisturizing. If you fall in love with them and want some color suggestions from the permanent line let me know. There are a ton of great Cremesheen Glasses. 🙂
Danielle says
I really like Narcissus! I’m not big into gloss, but this color is really pretty!
Karen says
Oh really? These are really comfy to wear, they just might change your mind about gloss!
Joanne says
Ooooh these are fab! I wasn’t originally going gaga over anything from the collection, but DAY-UMMM does Fever Isle really get my coral senses tingling! I think I may have to stop by my local Mac counter now 😀 Thanks for all the gorgeous swatches, Karen!
Karen says
Hi Joanne,
If you love corals, and if you don’t have it already, check out MAC Lychee Luxe Lipglass while you’re at the counter. 🙂
Heidi says
Ooh, send Fever Isle over ASAP, please!
And what is it with finches and 5 in the morning? They’ve got the same schedule in my back yard, too.
Karen says
Dude, that gloss is so YOU. It would look killer with your YSL palette! 😀
Maybe Missy needs to have a talk with your finch neighbors, hmm.
TGIF!
Lauren says
Love Narcissus and Fever Isle! I actually don’t own any Mac products, and I think that has to change soon.
Also this is my first post, although I’ve been following your blog for a long time! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
Thank you for leaving a comment and for reading! It’s very nice to meet you. 🙂
What makeup brands do you wear and enjoy?
Lauren says
Nice to meet you too! 🙂 I have a little bit of everything, but Benefit and Too Faced are my favorites that I keep going back to. I love the shadow sets by Too Faced especially. I used to be really into Urban Decay, but the glitter they keep packing into their eyeshadows is a bit of a turn-off for me.
Kim says
Fever Isle is definitely my favorite but the need for lip liner is a deal breaker. I feel ashamed to admit this but I think I own a lip liner – I’m just not 100% sure. 🙂
You totally need to have a conversation with those finches about their early morning ways. May I suggest bringing a leashed Tabs as an incentive for them to comply? hee hee!
Karen says
You don’t need one if you go sheer. Just dab a little on and you’ll be fine!
Wait… you don’t own a lip liner?!
OMG, so Tabs and the birds. He watches them all day long through the glass. We call it “Tabby TV.” As far as I can tell he enjoys it, but having so much hunting stimulus around all day long is turning him into a grump! He’s been more “cat” lately and doesn’t have any patience for us pesky humans. His love bites have been frequent and not very tender lately. 🙁
Kim says
What? Lip liner? I’m sorry, I didn’t quite hear the question… HAHA! I am *pretty* sure I have one. 🙂
I’m sorry about Tabs. It must be the frustrated hunter in him. 🙁 We have a coral honeysuckle outside one of the living room windows and the hummingbirds love it. The cats never really sit in that window though. But they do pay attention to the noisy birds. Maybe that’s why Tabs is so interested in the finches.

Just found your site today and I love it! THanks for all the tips and this giveaway
