No, I have not taken up the science of metallurgy, nor have I purchased mining rights along a river someplace. This post is not about mining, blacksmithing, alchemy, mineral rights, or trumpets or trombones or other instruments in the brass section (go French horn!).
I believe this MAC Pro Longwear Fluidline is called “Brassy” because of the new MAC Is Beauty collection to which it belongs, which has references to beauty salons and, you know, “getting your hair did,” and low-lights, and that kind of thing. I’m assuming that “Brassy” is in reference to what can happen sometimes to your hair.
Mind you, I’m not totally sure about that, but I’m making an educated guess. I think the name has to do with brassy-colored hair, which I’m guilty of having when I don’t go in to get my highlights touched up often enough. My hair turns brassy.
When I tried to explain this phenomenon to El Hub, he looked thoroughly confused, like I was saying that my hair turned bright gold.
“Brassy’s a thing, babe!” I had to tell him. “Girls will know what it is.” 🙂
Brassy, a metallic golden bronze, is one of 16 Pro Longwear Fluidline gel liners in the new MAC Is Beauty collection, and I can’t recall ever seeing it before.
I like to line my upper lash lines with it and do a reverse eyeliner cat eye flick, where you use a lighter color on your upper lash lines (instead of a traditionally darker color like black or brown), coupled with a darker color on your lids.
I think what sets it apart for me is the way it catches the light. It just makes eyes light up and look brighter, wider and more awake.
It’s a good one for warmer skin tones, but gals with lighter and cooler skin tones should also give it a try. I bet it will look really pretty with blue and green eyes.
Other products I’m wearing in this look…
- MAC Eye Shadow in Brule
- MAC Eye Shadow in Omega
- MAC Eye Shadow in Brun
- MAC Eye Shadow in Vanilla Extract
- Hourglass Film Noir Pencil in Eclipse
- Eylure Texture No. 154 lashes
- Sephora Colorful Blush in Flirt It Up No 06
- Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons Bronzer in 02 Naturel
- MAC Lipstick in Real Redhead
- Diorskin Nude Air Serum Foundation in Honey
- MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Tan
It should also be mentioned that texture-wise, the Fluidlines aren’t all alike. I think Brassy feels smoother than some of them, and it doesn’t go patchy. It also lasts all day, doing its awesome brassy thing. 🙂

I am not sure how you do it, but you turn even a boring looking product into something I immediately want. This shade looks great and I love the idea of the reverse cat flick, I need to try it although I don’t think I have a liner light enough to do so. Anyways, this look is beautiful.
And yes, brassy is a thing! And I hate when my hair turns brassy!

Aw, really? I don’t think this one’s boring at all. Of all the Fluidlines in this collection, this is definitely one of my faves. It’s really, really good at brightening. Plus it lasts forever, and I love how it performs.
You should totally try the reverse liner trick too. It’s a fun different look.

I love this color on you & in general; I have a similar color in a shadow pencil which brings out the gold in my eyes.
Brassy can also mean loud & aggressive or shamelessly bold. I prefer the second definition!

This is such a beautiful color and compliments your skin tone so beautifully! I wonder how it’d turn out on a pasty gal like myself?

Is it permanent? I hope? It’s gorgeous.

Yaasss, girl. Gotta get the hair DID! Yet another new fluidline that’s hitting all the right notes for me. Super pretty. And I’d never even heard of a reverse eyeliner until now

I loved that MAC this time came with more fluidlines than lipsticks 😉 ..
I have an for such bright but neutral liners.. on its own they might not work that well but yes with a reverse cat flick they look just amazing ;)..
it really opened up and brightened the eyes! 🙂

Oh yes, brassy is a thing!
I was expecting this liner to be patchy, as most of the metallic fluidness are, and skip it.
Now I am debating to get it again. I don’t think I would use it a lot, but I don’t own anything similar…

I’m curious why they keep pushing the release of this line back. Isn’t this the second time they’ve done that? Is this common for Mac?
