My makeup laziness knows no bounds. I can be such a lazy beast. Lately, I’ve been reaching for MAC Mineralize SPF 15 Loose Foundation ($29). It’s easier to apply than liquid foundation yet still provides doable medium-to-heavy coverage. I’m not sure how I feel about the NASA-looking packaging (although the fluffy puff is cute) MAC chose to include with the product, but no problem — I’ll just use my trusty skunk brush (aka the MAC 187) with it instead!
Disco glitter queens, you’ll freak out when you see how sparkly it looks in a wrist swatch, but hold on a minute because the sparkle disappears (poof!) once the product has been applied to your face. The result: a dewy matte finish.
Mineralize Loose feels good, too. It’s light, doesn’t cake and allows my skin to breathe. MAC blended moisturizers, conditioners and a mysterious “Mineral Complex” that MAC claims keeps skin healthy and nourished.
MAC has given us seven shades to choose from (I’m using Medium Dark).
Because the jar is oddly shaped, you can’t exactly carry it in your sleek clutch purse, so bust out your big ole’ Marc Jacobs bag to carry it around for touch-ups throughout the day.

It’s official: I’m a big fan of this stuff. I haven’t been using it for long, but I did notice a few tiny pimples on my chin after a few days. They could have been caused by stress/lack of sleep/failure to win the lottery for the umpteenth time/etc., but I’ll keep you posted.
Care to feed your inner lazy makeup beast? Check out MAC Mineralize SPF 15 Foundation at your favorite MAC counter or online.
Well, how was your Monday, girlfriend? I got home from a mellow day at the office and kicked it old school with Tabs! He was waiting at the door when I got home. What a user… But he was oh so excited to watch last week’s episode of The Hills with me.
I swear he meowed scornfully each and every time Spencer Pratt made an appearance on the show.
I just got back from dance class, so now it’s time for dinner (mac and cheese)! Hope you’re having a nice evening. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Karen,
I love your blog – its layout, your well-written entries, and your FOTDs, you’re absolutely lovely!

Hi Karen!
Loving your stuff as usual. I too broke out in some bizarre tiny pimples on my chin a few weeks ago. They’re pretty itchy and painful, some look almost like tiny little ulcers and they just won’t go away. I tried everything! Can you recommend me anything and give me some tips on covering them up? They are so small and bumpy they look like skin irritation and are quite hard to cover up.
Lots of love!
Medina
P.S.: I’m still terrified of MAC Parrot, I got it cause I couldn’t resist the colour but I’m not really into very bright make up and have fair skin and dark hair. It kind of just looks vulgar on me. Any ideas?

I watched “Gossip Girl” last night and I like 😀 That show has a spoonful of evilness in it, so typical for teen shows these days. I didn’t remember my classmates being like those characters, maybe I hung out with a good crowd? Or maybe we just studied out butts off to get into good colleges? Tabz is big and sexay!
Anna says
I’m soooo trying that !!
I never understan the Plus shade ? Woooaaah Nelly….Medium Dark looks very dark for me and I’m the same as you NC35 ? Hmmmm, must investigate !
Glosslizard says
Hi Medina!
Hope you don’t mind if I chime in, but I’m fair with dark hair too, and I love playing with bright colors!
When I feel like the color can be really overwhelming, I do a neutral eye and then use the bright color as a liner, sweeping it from about the center of the upper eyelid toward the outer corner and up just a touch. I blend it across the top of the color, leaving the part closest to the lash line the brightest.
I’ve also found that if I think a color just looks too strange on me, a little neutral pink on the inner corner blended toward the middle of the upper lid seems to make a big difference in calming down the overall effect!
I hope some of these tips work for you! 🙂

Hi Karen!
Hmm, with colors ranging from Medium to Deeper Dark, I don’t know if this is the choice for me! I’ll try it out when they come out with a translucent! 🙂
I’m glad Tabs came to chill with you! The only thing better than a cat is a cat who will watch TV with you! LOL!
My Monday was mellow too, still in post-birthday afterglow! Life is good!

I can’t wait for this to launch at our Macy’s. Althought, I have to admit, I’m kinda scared of the possiblity of it breaking me out. Lord knows, I don’t need any additional help in that area.
But, I think I’ll still pay it a visit and see how it looks on me.
Vanessa says
Hi Karen! How are you? I am so tempted to try this out, but my skin hates MAC Face Products, so we’ll see! And I don’t know about the price, I am only paying $10 for my mineral foundation at SilkNaturals and it lasts me like 3 months, but ooOoh the temptation!
Amanda says
glad it works for you so far!
and I just LOL at your tabs and the hills comment-but that sounds exactly like my hubby when I make him watch, haha.
Karen says
Hi JaxXx,
I was hesitant to try it because MAC StudioFix did a number on my skin in my 20s. It’s been okay though so far *knock on wood*. I’ll let you know if the pimple parade busts out.
Oh! I am always looking for pimple medication so thank you for the Clinique recommendation. I actually have to go to the counter to buy another jar of Moisture On-line!
Karen says
Hi Eru,
Yah! It doesn’t feel drying and leaves my skin feeling comfy. I’m a lil’ concerned about the pimple factor but I kept my receipt and the packaging so if the small chin pimple situation continues it’s going BACK!
It sounds like you had a wonderfully relaxing weekend (ahhh, those are the *best*).
What kind of concert are you going to? I hope since your friend is playing you get some back stage hook ups!
Give your bunny a hug for me!
Karen says
Hi MsNotty
Yah, it’s an interesting product. I have a foundation fetish, and think it’s worth at least a try!
kia says
hey karen, i loved it over my strobe lotion. it gave a good finish. how do you achieve your heavy- medium coverage with this?
i didn’t the satin finish to it until your arm swatch yowzers!
Karen says
Hi Chris,
I am very much like a puppy in training in that I love receiving positive reinforcement so THANK YOU for this! I hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday. 🙂
Karen says
Hi Medina,
What usually works for me for unexpected breakouts is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide applied morning and night, followed by a moisturizer on top to combat the accompanying dryness from the BP. I let my skin fully dry after washing it and then apply the BP. After the BP dries I apply moisturizer (right now I’m using Clinique’s Moisture On-Line).
I had a killer pimple on my cheek a few weeks ago. To make it less obvs, I used a fine tipped concealer brush (MAC 194) to apply a cream concealer on top. The trick is to not over apply the concealer and to blend out the edges (if I put too much on I’ve noticed it actually brings more attention to the pimple… big NO!). I have several different concealers (I use different ones for dark circles), but I think the one I used that week was by Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Maximum Coverage Concealer.
As for Parrot… try it with neutrals to tone it down. One subtle look I do with it is to wear a beige/pearl shadow on the brownbone (like MAC Shroom or Ricepaper), then a warm brown the the crease (Soba, Soft Brown) and then Parrot on the lid only and just barely in the crease. This gives you a small pop of color that isn’t too in your face. You could also just do a beige/pearl shade over your entire eye (oh, maybe even a soft gold), then Parrot on the lid, then a crisp black liner on top (ohhh, purty). Another thing that helps w/brights is to apply color slowly, in layers. Remember to dilute your brush!
Hope this helps! Lemme know if you have more questions.
Karen says
Hi Dao,
OH! So I have never watched that show but I keep seeing the promos and I’m strangely interested. I really don’t need any more TV in my life but I think I’m gonna have to GO THERE!
BTW, I hung out with the studious/good kids crowd too, LOL. We could’ve probably been in the same crew!
Tabz is large and in charge! 😉
Karen says
Hi Anna,
Medium Dark is a lil’ dark for me right now (I still haven’t gotten my summer tan on yet) but in a month or so it’s going to be the perfect shade.
You should totally check it out too, even if it’s just to see the miraculous disappearance of the glitter!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Those are great tips!
Yah, the color range seemed somewhat limited. But should you get a tan…
Tabs was all over the house yesterday. After he got tired of my lap he invaded El Hub’s computer space and planted himself in front of the computer screen (and of course, refused to budge).
Hope your day is going well so far! It’s so cold… I’m wearing a turtleneck!
Karen says
Hi Tuprnut,
Yah, the breakout thing is a little sketchy. After my skin clears up I’m going to try this again and if it happens once more it’s going back, asap.
The finish is actually really pretty! It’s not too matte, not to sparkly… it’s just right!
Karen says
Hi Vanessa,
I’m good, hon! I hear ya on the MAC Face Products thing (does your face hate the powders, too?). Just go and try it though! (I like it mostly cause it’s easy, LOL)
I hope you are well … how’s life been treating you?
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
Oh! Did you watch last night’s episode? Justin Bobby needs to GO!
If Spencer was my son I’d so open up a can of whoop ass on him. He’s so disrespectful, rude and just plain ole’ MEAN!
Karen says
Hi Kia,
Just for fun one day I just kept on putting on layers (like three or four!). I usually just wear one or two though when I use the 187. I don’t really wear a lot of foundation so what feels like medium to me might be light for somebody else. I suppose you could also use the Kabuki brush to really lay it on, or press it in with that funny fluffy pillow!
Did you like this? I’m a lil’ worried about the breakout factor but it sure makes my life easier. 🙂
Hope you are having a great Tuesday!

Hi Iheartmakeup,
Yah! The finish is oh so purty! I think the sparkles diffuse the light in a way to make it kinda dewy (at least on me, ha!).
Glosslizard says
LOL! You’re funny! Tan indeed! 😉
I love Tabs! He is such a character!
Oh yeah, I was freezing my mascara off over here! And I couldn’t keep my hat on because of the wind! Grrrr.
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Hey, ya never know! Maybe someday you’ll be compelled to spray tan… one can never predict the things they’ll do (years ago I never thought I’d be cool with my hair being curly!).
I gave Tabs a big chin scratch for you. Then, he promptly deposited his claws into my jammies to show his cat ecstasy!
It’s raining here now (boo). If it doesn’t stop soon I’ll need to bust out the water proof mascara!
Medina says
Hi Karen and Glosslizard!
Many thanks for your advice. I’m sure to tame the Parrot with your help! 🙂
Medina
Glosslizard says
You’re right… it could happen!
Cats and jammies can be a perilous combination! I know! 🙂
Well, on the bright side, just think what this little perk-me-up rainshower will do for all the flowers! It’ll clear the air too, so everything will be gorgeous for getting out during the weekend!
Karen says
You’re welcome, Media! Hope you’re having a good one!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
Yup! The cat/jammie combo has its joys and its pains. 🙂 I need to start wearing industrial strength jeans or something when Tabs comes over, because he’s got some crazy big claws. Speaking of claws, I keep seeing this commercial for this pet manicure contraption on late night TV! It’s like a ten minute long infommercial which shows people giving their pets manicures… all of the dogs are all smiley and happy looking and the one cat they show looks SO CRANKY! It’s hilarious!
Glosslizard says
That’s funny! I can totally imagine a surly-looking cat getting its claws done!
I don’t know if Tabs would tolerate it, but I periodically use a cat claw trimmer and just take the very pointy ends off my cats’ claws. They handle it way better than clipping the whole claw, and it cuts down on the puncture factor while leaving them with the ability to scale trees!
Karen says
Hmm. I may have to get him one of those.
Is it crazy that I want to manicure somebody else’s cat? I think it just might be.
Glosslizard says
Well when you say it like that….!
Neodymium says
Oh, the SA told me yesterday that the release has been pushed back to September in Australia, boo. Though… it doesn’t come in light? I’m pale as milk so that’s no good for me 🙁 I was so pumped for this one!
Simran says
Hi
My skin is very clear though not very even in colour. Im new to using foundations, I’ve tried Bobbi Brown liquid, its very nice. I am not beginning to use mineralize based products so I brought the MAC mineralize loose. I must say I dont feel any difference in my skin what so ever even after using it liberally. I wonder why? I thought it was going to make my skin look much nice…!
