MAC Liquidlast Liner Mini-Rant

Feast your eyes upon the bane of my eyelining existence this past month, the dreaded tube of MAC Liquidlast Liner ($16.50) in Inkspill.
I’m usually a Fluidline/Technakohl kinda gal, but I’ve heard many wonderful things about MAC Liquidlast Liner and was stoked to pick up a tube. Plus, I couldn’t say no to the pearly deep green color.
Little did I know the world of hurt this tube would unleash.
The 266, the 209 - I’ve tried applying Inkspill with several different brushes but for some reason couldn’t draw a straight line to save my life. Every time I put it on I end up looking like a crazy, cracked-out circus clown! I briefly thought about posting pictures of one of my many bad Liquidlast experiments, but I am so not ready to go there.
After every ill-fated attempt I had to take off all my eye makeup and start over again because this stuff requires a strong oil-based makeup remover; otherwise, this liner stays put through your next few lifetimes.
But I’m not ready to give up the fight. There’s gotta be a way to make this work!

HAHA liquidlast didn’t work for me either, it seriously refused to come off, and when it was dry it was hard as a rock and started to flake and make my eyelid feel tight, and on top of that I had a reaction to it! At least I was able to exchange it for another paint pot!

Karen - this isn’t a liquid last question, although I envision myself having the same trouble that you did, but I was wondering what you use as foundation? Liquid? Powder? Studio Fix?

Hi Beauty Bug,
I use a few different things. It depends on the season and how much coverage I need, because I have tough-to-match skin. But right now I’ve got a few foundations that I rotate between:
1. Laura Mercier Oil-Free tinted moisturizer
2. Laura Mercier Oil-Free foundation (although I suspect that this is breaking me out)
3. Maybelline Pure Makeup foundation (suprisingly great for the price, doesn’t break me out)
I’ve heard great things about Smashbox and Chanel powder foundations too. I don’t need a lot of coverage but think I want to check these out just for fun.

Tried using this also, but turned out to be too thick and messy as hell!!! No more of this! Threw a whole tube away!!! Hated it.

Hi Christy,
I might have to gift my tube off to a friend too. I think one has to have advanced eyelining skills to use it. I’m so bummed because it’s so pretty but oh well!

Ok boo, I am IN LOVE with this product. Here is how I have mastered it. It’s a little time consuming but the end result is amazing. I first line my eyes, top and bottom, with an ordinary usually MATTE eyeliner… try Lava Matte from Too Faced. Anyways, then I apply my eye shadows, and then I apply the liquidlast eyeliner. It ends up looking amazing, and since it ends up with a matte texture, the Lava Matte ends up looking amazing. I have tried this product in the Black and this pearly bright purple as well as a metallicy maroon. I forgot the colors and I am too lazy to look them up. I hope this helps but honestly this product is life saving. Try my idea and let me know how it works for you!

Thanks Samantha. I am a big fan of layering eye products so I will def try these tips.
I know so many ladies, like you, who rave on and on about Liquidlast. Gotta make it work, gotta make it work!

i’m actually a retail artist for MAC, and i do admit NEVER picking up liquidlast liner. i was, however, forced to learn how to use it- and with a seperate brush too. go ahead and use a 266, or 209, but due to the consistency of this water-proof product, don’t apply too much onto the brush. get the brush real flat, and kind of do a stamping motion onto the eyes, rather than a dragging motion. the stamping motion will get you a straight line, and the dragging motion won’t really do so well. then grab more product onto your brush, and keep on stampin. try it! hope it works.

I too just bought the Inkspill Liquidlast, and I am beginning to have serious doubts…I cant even draw a straight line with it on my hand, am not sure how I will manage on my eyelid. And its so much more expensive in India…roughly the equivalent of $28…I could cry.
However, I read on another blog that the way to use it is to make little dots and then join then up, rather than trying to draw a straight line…guess I will try that now.

I’m intrigued by Liquidlast Liner after reading all the rave reviews about its staying power. However, I’ve had absolutely no success searching the net for its ingredient list (it’s not on Specktra’s “MAC Product Ingredients” thread either) and I was wondering if you could post it.

Hey guys
I’m a huge fan of liquidlast liner, but it took me a while to get the hang of it. I use the supplied brush, with only a little product on it - pull your eye gently to the side and starting in the centre of the eye, use small strokes to apply. Go back and join inner eye to the line you started. Just practise with it. You’ll need an oily cleanser to remove it but I own this in Inkspill as well and it’s my staple! I’ve also used it on a bare eye and covered it with pigments to get a different colour look.
So seriously, just give it time and don’t stress. It will work!!

I’m a huge fan of liquidlast! Especially the bright and beautiful Aqualine! I agree, don’t give up on them! If you pull the eye taught when you are applying it and use a 209 brush very carefully you can get a straight line! They’re not for the faint of heart as they are a little bit tricky at first, but really worth it when you get the hang of them! The Point Black colour is gorgeous as it stays ‘wet looking’ throughout the day! ;0)
