Hey, Sailor! What’s that you’re wearing on your nails?
Oh, the two new nail lacquers from MAC’s Hey, Sailor! collection? Ya don’t say… Well, in that case, drop anchor for a spell, and tell me what you can about these nautical treats.
Hmm… They’re expensive, you say? Wow, $17? That does sound like a lot, even if the packaging is cute and limited edition.
But what about the individual shades? What do you think? Are they worth it?
TOUCH OF RED
I only need one or two coats of this bright, creamy yellowish red for full-coverage color, and it dries in a decent amount of time. Say 30 minutes.
I dig how well it matches the red lip products also released with this collection, but I feel like I’ve seen similar colors for much less…

Touch of Red
VESTRAL WHITE
I remember when there were far fewer options for nail polish colors back in the day. Pink, red and peach were the most popular shades, and if I wanted to paint my nails with a creamy white like Vestral, I would have reached for a bottle of White-Out!
Gross, I know.
Vestral White’s high gloss, bright white color and decent dry time (like Touch of Red, it takes about 30 minutes) scores major points with me, but the thick formula applies unevenly and leaves streaks. For opaque color, I have to apply from three to four layers.
Considering the price ($17)…I can’t abide the streaks.

Vestral White
Both Vestral White and Touch of Red are available now at MAC counters, stores and maccosmetics.com.
How do you feel about MAC’s nail products in general? Do you think they’re on the right track?

The white is a bit scary but the red is super gorgeous!

I’d skip the white and Essie’s Really Red would be a cheaper dupe.

I don’t have any of their nail polishes. I prefer Chanel, Nars, Essie, YSL or Sally Hansen. OPI too because they have a large range of colours. M.A.C ? No, I love their lipsticks, blushes or eyeshadows ( not all ), but I’ll pass on the polishes except if I really find a very pretty one.

Surprisingly, I’m really digging the red. I know it’s so dupable–but it’s so vibrant and it’s my perfect shade of red. The white, on the other hand, really is dupable and my Sally Hansen white polish will do just fine

I’ll pass on these and stick with my china glaze!

The white is oddly kind of cute on your skintone! But all those layers…no fun!
You just gave me a flashback to painting nails with whiteout during class when we got bored in like , might’ve been middle school? Haha. I would do it but then the dry texture of the whiteout would wig me out, lol.
