MAC’s new Haute & Naughty Waterproof Lash mascara ($22) made it through the “AVOID EMOTIONAL TRIGGERS” dates on my calendar with flying colors, so it’s alright by me.
Yes…there really is a 10-day block of time highlighted in red on the calendar that I share with El Hub, and there really is a note on it (in all caps) that says, “AVOID EMOTIONAL TRIGGERS.”
I consider it a courtesy alert for my husband, so that he knows to prepare for possible PMS-induced mood swings, and thus stay outta my way…lest he suffer the consequences.
Haha! Kidding. 🙂
Kind of.
OK, not really.
I’ll be going along, doop-da-doo, happy as a lark with a clam, until out of nowhere — BOOM! — I’ll see a commercial about adoptable kittens or read a sad story on Facebook, and just like that, I’ll start crying.
Hence the need for waterproof mascara like Haute & Naughty Waterproof Lash.
Like the other day, I was thinking about the first time I met Tabs (it was about eight years ago) when it occurred to me that he’s not going to be around forever…
*sniffs*
I burst into tears! My baby cat is getting older. 🙁
Waterproof Lash is MAC’s latest addition to their Haute & Naughty Lash mascara line, and it’s available in a single shade, a deep glossy black called Shockproof.
Like MAC’s other Haute & Naughty line mascaras, depending on how you twist off the cap, you can load the brush in one of two ways, with either more (in this case, twisting it off from the sparkly section) or less (twisting it off from the dark blue section) product. Load the brush with extra product for thicker, fuller lashes, or with less product for less volume, but better length and lots o’ separation.
I like to create a lash cocktail, starting with two layers for length and separation, followed by a final layer with the thicker application to add some drama for yo’ mama.
The result is noticeable, but not cray (no spider lashes!), criss-crossing lashes with fullness at the base.
This stuff also passed the ultimate test: it survived crying and sweating at the same time. Yes, I was the girl bawling on the bike in spinning class last weekend when the instructor gave his pep talk while Free Falling was playing (later he told me it happens all the time).
Embarrassing? Most certainly, yes, but I learned that Haute & Naughty Waterproof Lash won’t flake, smudge, clump or irritate my sensitive eyes, not even in extreme situations.
I think of this as a good Monday through Fri-yay mascara. Come Saturday, though, I’ll be looking for more dramatic, take-no-prisoners, big-like-Biggie-Smalls lashes.
Recommended for my girls (and boys) who want a waterproof formula with oomph.

Every so often I have the same thoughts when I see my baby girl Tulip. I also think about how she was saved by the organization I adopted her from (well actually she adopted me…she fell asleep on my lap and I knew she was mine). It makes me so sad to think she’s getting older….
Karen says
Aww, baby girl Tulip! How old is she now?

I’ve been thinking more about when Ernesto will go to kitty heaven lately… he’s 9 and I haven’t seen that time pass.My childhood kitty left me when he was only 12. And I just learnt that my best friends’ kitty girl has a tumor. It really scares me. 🙁
Karen says
Hi Lulle,
The time goes by SO quickly. I can’t believe Tabs is already 8! It was only yesterday when he was just a baby-cat, aww. What was your childhood kitty’s name?
Lulle says
His name was Shere Khan like the tiger in the Jungle Book 🙂 I still miss him.
Karen says
Oh your own jungle cat! How old were you when you first got him?
Tabs is my little baby tiger, LOL! Right now he’s meowing downstairs and begging for food, sigh.

Big-like-Biggie-Smalls gives your review of this straight up street cred! Happy to know I’m not the only gal who goes to workout with at least some makeup on. Give me the RuPaul Drag Queen I’m Working On The Corner spider lashes any day, though. ☺️

I’ve been listening to a lot of Biggie because of this new comedy that I’ve been watching called Fresh Off the Boat. Have you heard of it? You would LOVE the soundtrack — they play all of the ’90s hip hop hits. Biggie is in heavy rotation. 😀

Sounds like a good mascara to me! I cry at the drop of a hat as well. Anything can set me off at any time of the month. Too funny you write it on your calendar for your hubs!
Karen says
Honestly he needs advanced warning. We learned this the hard way, LOL!
Kwmechelle says
Yes I have. That show is definitely one I couldn’t wait to see. And the soundtrack is hilarious. Totally a walk down memory lane 🙂

My baby Tulip is 7 now…my boyfriend’s cat is 16

These days are really something those living with you need to be warned of… *sigh* Although after pregnancy, I feel like the “emotional awareness period” has strechted and somehow affects almost everyday.
Give me Christmas Commercials or baby animals and I will be fighting back the tears any day…
The original formula of that mascara, on a less emotional note, did nothing for me, I just need more drama in my everyday life.

I have the regular one and I like it a lot so I’m really glad they decided to make a waterproof version now!

Awww Karen I totally feel your pain! My dog just turned 9 in November and I have a mini heart attack whenever I don’t hear his little snores when he’s sleeping lol. I received him as a sweet 16 gift and he’s been a part of my family since he was just 8 weeks old. I honestly can’t imagine life without my little critter! I hope both our fur babies have many more healthy years to come

That actually looks really natural! I like the eye look you did too.

So, I just cried reading everyone else’s posts – do I win? I don’t particularly like waterproof mascaras because I have the hardest time getting them off from under my eyes. I’ve used this mascara in the regular version and I liked it a lot.
Wait until crazy menopause – all days, all the time. (just something for you kids to look forward to. LOL)

Which lipgloss are you wearing in the photos? It looks so pretty!
