Edward or Jacob? Eric or Bill? Nutella or — NO! Forget it. There are some choices I’m simply not prepared to make. 🙂
At least now when it comes to mascara, fickle girls like me don’t have to wrestle with difficult choices. We can have our cake AND eat it too, thanks to MAC Haute & Naughty Lash ($18; available in a single shade, Haute & Naughty Black).
The disco turtleneck on the tube (see the pic below) is what MAC calls their “two-in-one dual wiper system,” and it’s one of the keys to Haute & Naughty’s success.
Unscrewing the wand from the glittery purple end loads the brush with product — LOTS of product — enough for dramatic lash volume from root to tip with just one coat.
But even if you’re more interested in lash length and separation than lash volume, you’re still in luck!
See, this thing’s a little like a Transformer… By disconnecting the wand from the hot pink extension end, the brush loads with less product, resulting in slightly thinner, yet better defined lashes.
Neat, huh?
Whenever I travel, I usually bring at least a couple of different tubes of mascara (I like having choices), but Haute & Naughty works like two tubes in one…which doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t continue to pack two tubes for every trip, but it does mean I’ll have even MORE choices than before! 🙂
No matter how it’s applied (unless I rush, but more on that in a sec), Haute & Naughty leaves my lashes feeling light and soft, even after multiple layers. It holds my curled lashes all day long, too, without any smudging/flaking, yet it’s easy to build up in layers, quickly and well. That said, even one coat = fatty-bo-batty lashes!
For ladies who are always in a hurry (I feel ya pain!), consider this: Haute & Naughty turns into a mess-fest when I rush through its application, and if I use the heavy duty purple end, product always finds its way onto my lids, even if I attempt to remove any excess by swiping the brush against a paper towel. Yup, I think slow and steady wins the race when it comes to applying Haute & Naughty.

Two coats applied with the pink end of the wand; check out that separation!
Two coats applied with the purple end; pretty good volume, right?
Haute & Naughty would probably be one of my favorite dramatic MAC mascaras if it weren’t for the $18 price. MAC usually sets the prices of their mascaras between $13-14; Haute & Naughty is kinda like getting two mascaras in one, but not quite since it costs a little more. I hope it’s not a sign of things to come… 🙁
Quibbles aside, I think Haute & Naughty hits most of the right lash notes in terms of volume, curl hold and wearability, and if you’re a lash junkie always looking for your next lash crack hit, Haute & Naughty could be worth a try. Available now at MAC counters, stores and maccosmetics.com. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B/B+

Just another manic Tuesday
Why’s it so hard to get back into the swing of things after a long weekend? The calendar may call today Tuesday, but it sure feels like a Monday to me.
Maybe we should do the Monday poll again, LOL! 🙂
How’s your day coming along?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Greetings from Disneyland! Right now we’re on pirate island (formerly Tom Sawyer’s Island), and weather is eerily similar to back home! I brought my beloved Armani Eyes to Kill waterproof for all my mascara needs! Humidity, Splash Mountain, a dip in the pool… it stays put!
Happy Tuesday, and I hope your week shapes up! 🙂

Yargh! I love me some pirates, matey!!

This looks like a very interesting product!! What would you consider your favorite drugstore mascara for lashes that create drama drama & drama?!
Karen says
Hi Kristina,
Definitely Rimmel Glam Eyes Lash Flirt. Here’s a review (along with pics) of it in action:

This is such a nice idea! I never really want to open 2 tubes of mascara at a time because of the three month shelf life and so this is really like a two-in one.

Pretty interesting … but pricey! Not too sure bout this one … but who knows? Stranger things have happened (make up wise, at least) to me…
Marce says
Looking good! I *still* haven’t tried a MAC mascara, LOL! I think I’ll go bare faced to the counter today and try Plushlash on, I’ve heard good things about it. Though I think the best thing to do is to actually finish all the tubes of mascara I have at home before buying a new one, right? 😀
The price increase is sort of worrying…if you check out the Venomous Villains prices, the products have a slight increase. Maybe it’s my imagination? Oh it sucks when things go up! Specially cos here it will increase so much more! Just yesterday there was an increase in perfumes…sigh…

That dual wand is super cool! No matter how careful I am, I always get mascara on my lids so that’s not an issue. I just learned long ago to put on mascara first, wipe up the lid mess with a Q-Tip, let my lashes dry and then do the liner/shadow. I know, you’re all probably cringing right now. 🙂
Karen says
Hey Kim,
Whatever works for you!
Kymberlee says
I haven’t tried any MAC mascaras but I’ve been considering it. I have a lot right now (DiorShow, Smashbox Lash DNA, sample of Tarte Eco Friendly, Sephora Lash Stretcher). I like DiorShow because it doesn’t clump but it’s a little pricey. I was thinking of trying Tarte’s Lights Camera because it’s cheaper.
Does anyone have any input?
Karen says
That’s my fave Tarte Mascara! It keeps lashes soft and gives great volume and curl hold.
Kymberlee says
Good to know! I think that will be my next mascara purchase!

mines coming in the mail today…cant wait to try it 😉 i hope i love it simply for the packaging lol!!

Hi, how does mascara compare to dior show? Door show makes my lashes long and full but the mascara was a little goopy. Lashes are everything to me but I just haven’t found a truly great mascara yet.
