It’s raining here today, which normally would leave me feeling rather blah (I get the blues when the sun goes away), but today? Not so much.
First, it’s been a dry winter, and we need the rain. Second, the construction guys can’t work when it’s wet…so it’s been gloriously quiet this afternoon. 🙂
All I can hear are raindrops on my window, which is a very soothing sound.
Funny thing is, when it’s sunny outside and the workmen are working (we’re having our siding repaired), I put on my biggest headphones and listen to YouTube videos of ambient rain to drown out the noise, haha! Oh, the irony…
So, because today is kind of cold and gray, I felt like doing something a little springy and colorful. I went with a bright green cat eye with golden coral cheeks and a pink lip using makeup from the new MAC A Fantasy of Flowers collection.
If you ever feel like wearing bright green liner or shadow but aren’t quite sure what to do with it and don’t want anything too over the top, try a green cat eye.
No, seriously. Dude, you can do it!
I like this eye look because there’s a bright pop of color and minimal blending, and sometimes when I’m even lazier than I was today, I’ll skip everything else and just do a single swipe of green on my upper lash lines instead.
With bright green liner like this, I’ll usually tightline my upper lashes with a black liner or eyeshadow (here I’m using MAC’s Carbon Eye Shadow) to give more depth to my eyes and create the illusion of thicker lashes (since mine are naturally wimpy).
Just adds a little somethin’ somethin’…
The green liner I’m wearing here is MAC’s new Sassy Moss from A Fantasy of Flowers, by the way, and woo-hoo! — do I feel like a sassy-pants when I wear it. 🙂
It’s just so vibrant, and all it takes is a couple layers. Very cool. In a way, it reminds me of one of my old-school favorite MAC Fluidlines, Jadeye, but less teal and more green. Similar pop on the skin.
Today I wanted do something cat eye-ish but a little different, so I took Sassy Moss and sort of wrapped it around the inner corners of my lower lash lines, and then faded it into a lighter green, Chartresuse Bouquet Pigment, also from A Fantasy of Flowers.
Ah, Chartreuse Bouquet… I love that shade. Love the hint of gold (so pretty!) and how it shimmers but isn’t frosty. But oh, my goodness, I am such a klutz when it comes to MAC Pigments. Yesterday I accidentally knocked over the jar, and now I have a nice chartreuse green stain on my carpet…
Oh, well. At least it goes with the cat barf stains. #glasshalffull 🙂
So. Cheeks and lips. With bright greens like these two shades, I knew I wanted to do a pink lip, because I love that combination, so I layered cool pink Pagoda Cremesheen Glass on top of the blueish pink Snapdragon Lipstick. Blueish pink lip combos are one of my (many) weaknesses, and I really like these two together. They’re pink, but not, like, overly sweet baby pink or pale Barbie pink.
Oh, sure, those are great colors, too, but they would have taken this look in an entirely different direction.
For blush, I went with one of my favorite pieces from this entire collection, golden coral Petal Power Mineralize Blush.
GURL, I need another golden corals like Tabs needs more time in the spotlight, but this one’s really, really beautiful and complex — like a sheer wash of coral with a gorgeous golden sheen.
The gold sheen isn’t very noticeable in these pics, but it’s there. You can really see it catch the light when you look in the mirror and wiggle your head around.
Love it. 🙂
The new MAC A Fantasy of Flowers collection is bringing floral fabulousness to MAC counters and maccosmetics.com as we speak.

What a beautiful look, Karen. I love how you used those greens in your eye look. But the lips…that’s where you have me! I love this combination. And of course your hair looks fantastic too.
Karen says
Thanks, friend! Do you ever wear bright greens like this? I bet it would look amazing with your skin and hair.

I don’t. For some reason greens scare me and I never think they’d look good on me. I don’t even own a single piece of green clothing (it always becomes a problem on St. Patrick’s day, lol). But this chartreuse color is really pretty.

I guess it depends on your undertone, tho green is versatile as it’s a combo of a warm and a cool color..if you have a pink undertone, then yep, it could look strange(especially the gold-greens)…like me in some cool pinks and lavenders 😀 you should try a blue-green or an emerald like this sassy moss shade 😀
If you’re nautral, warm or olive-ish then I wouldn’t worry 😀 Maybe you think green would be too bright for you…then combine it with gold and brown, beige, black…or silver, grey and black if you’re pink-ish, like put some silver or pale gold in the inner corner and some green in the outer half of the eyelid…you can add some dark brown there or black to tone the green down and also intensify your crease.
I guess the same goes for clothes…you could go with a pastel or dark green so it’s not so bright if you don’t like that…or with a bright top with a grey or brown vest on top and black pants.
😀 Just me ranting

I also love a neutral upper eyelid(smoky or more natural, doesn’t matter much) with a thin line of a bright color like green(also blue, orange, pink, etc.) on the lower eyelid 😀 Add a bit of dark eyeliner too on the upper lid(i do it on the waterline too as I’m crazy about it tho it smudges) or at least a lot of black or black brown mascara to balance things out. I love black+bright :))

Love this brightness!! I saw your swatch post on this collection this morning, and decided right then and there that I was going to make my VERY FIRST MAC PURCHASE EVER by going to get Snapdragon ASAP!
I’m really shocked it’s taken me this long to buy any MAC products, but all the colors and options… It’s just so intimidating, for some reason! But I loved the color, and snapdragons were my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE flowers when I was little. I still adore them. So I figured it would be the perfect time to venture into the crazy MAC world! 🙂

I love this combo, pink and green <3 It looks lovely with dark brown eyes 😀
I wear green all the time as I got dark brown eyes too, a bit lighter, I think, and yellow-greenish undertones in my weird pale skin.
I love all greens, from the yellowy-gold-greens to the mints, forest, basic, dark and bluish ones, and my fav is emerald green, like the sassy green one 😀 I also love teal, turquoise, blah blah 😀
