“Okay, can I just say that I’m in love with your eyeshadow?”
“Oh, this? Thanks! It’s from a limited edition quad over at MAC.”
“LOVE the satiny tan and frosty orange… They look like great alternatives to brown and beige.”
“They are! And I think the other two shades — there’s a matte coral and a frosty reddish copper — are just as fun and wearable as these.”
“OOH! I’ve been in a rut lately with neutrals and could use a little makeup inspiration. What’s it called?”
“Call Me Bubbles.”
“I’m sorry…?”
“Call Me Bubbles.”
“Okay… Bubbles, what’s the name of the quad?”
Haha! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. 🙂 The MAC Call Me Bubbles Eye Shadow X 4 quad ($38) specializes in breaking makeup lovers out of ruts. One of three quads in the new limited edition Shop MAC collection, it hosts four powder shadows in Call Me Bubbles (a light satiny tan), Fresh Daily (a frosty orange), Full of Flavour (a matte coral) and Brash (a frosty reddish copper).
At first glance, I thought these shades might not be very wearable, but I’ve totally changed my tune.
The colors have character and seem interesting to me — sort of conservative with an edge, like jeans and a t-shirt worn with a pair of crazy shoes.
Swatches from the left: Call Me Bubbles, Fresh Daily, Full of Flavour and Brash
Lately, they’ve been replacing my standby neutrals in a couple of different looks…
For an everyday eye look, I’ve been wearing Call Me Bubbles (the tan) applied from lash line to brow bone, Fresh Daily (the orange) swept in the crease, and thick cat eye liner along the lash line (here, I’m wearing Paul & Joe Waterproof Gel Liner in Black). I think the combination of tan and orange puts a neat twist on regular cat eyes.
For a look with a little more color in it, I do the same thing as in the look above, but then sweep Full of Flavour (the matte coral pink) into the crease. Then, for extra shimmer and shine, I pack either Fresh Daily or Brash on my lids with a wet eyeshadow brush.
Finally, a dash of shimmery brown liner along my lash and water lines (maybe Dolce & Gabbana Khol in Chocolate or MAC Teddy Eye Kohl?), and I’m good to go.
Oh, and Full of Flavour, the coral matte shade, also doubles as a blush. 🙂
This quad’s already made its way into my regular rotation. I think it’s great for days when I just want to wear a little something on my eyes, but don’t necessarily want to go the brown/beige route.
PRICE: $38

Why are cat videos so incredibly funny?
If scientists can figure out why Adele’s Someone Like You makes people cry, then surely they’re close to figuring out what makes cat videos so frickin’ hilarious.
Thanks, Celine, for sending links to these videos. 🙂 I laughed so hard I started tearing!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Soooo in love with this quad! I love the new coral colors for spring/summer =)
Karen says
Glad you are liking it! Did you pick up anything else from the launch?

They’re so pretty in the pan and on you but wow, they’d make my pasty self look like I had a cold! I have blue eyes and no matter how hard I try, I just can’t wear coral, bronze, rust, or brown shadows. I look tired and sick. 🙁 Cool colors all the way for me.
Karen says
Awww, well, you’re lucky in that you can wear all those lovely cool colors that I can’t pull off. I’m envious!
Monika says
I got suckered into buying more than I expected from Shop, Cook, but this is one of the first things that really caught my eye. I was so happy that these quads got good ratings this time around because Call Me Bubbles was practically made for my skin tone.
Karen says
What else did you pick up from the collection, Monika?
Marian says
I really want this. I just love the colors! I’m scared that I’m too old for it though : (
April says
I doubt that ! If you swatch the palette you’ll find that the first 2 and the last colors are quite neutral and If you can use the coral pink as a blush like Karen says then anyone can make full use of this palette!
Karen says
You aren’t! Like April mentions above, the colors in the top row are so neutral. You could easily pull it off!
Chris25 says
Great minds think alike! I also go to peaches and corals when I want something not too neutral, but still wearable.
One day, I am going to raid your jewelry box. 🙂
Karen says
Hee hee, I’m happy to share!
One of these days I’ll update it… I find I wear the same pieces over and over!

That quad looks like just the quad for me. Reminds me a bit of Mythology eyeshadow which has over the past couple of months become a favourite of mine as a crease shadow.
Karen says
I love your new thumbnail! Your hair color looks great. 🙂
Karen B says
Aww, thank you. I’m quite fond of the colour. I’ve been wanting to go copper for years but never quite had the guts. So I was like: now is the time to start my ‘brand’ for potential drama schools. Hehe.
Iram says
I had my eye on this one as soon as I heard about it… this just makes me more excited! 😀
And might I say, you look pretty damn fine in those pictures. You’re gorgeous 😀
xo
Karen says
Do you think you might pick this quad up, Iram?
Happy Friday!

I love the look of Brash. I have a feeling that warmer weather is going to reignite my affection for orange shadow. 🙂
The masked kitties definitely made me laugh. Did you ever bread Tabs? If I tried that with my gals, they’d give me the cold shoulder for a week. Tabs is much more fashion forward. 🙂
Karen says
I have a fresh loaf of honey wheat waiting for that specific task, haha! I am hoping to do it this weekend… I’m sure he’ll be into it since he quite enjoys his carbs (he’s just like his mom!).
So, Brash is super cool! I think you’d love it applied wet.
Kim says
HAHA! Don’t forget to post pics!

i love this quad… and ive used it several times since i got it!
my fave thing to do is full of flavor all over the lids w/ the tiniest bit of brash on the crease/outer v. then i use call me bubbles to blend out the harsh edges. some brown liner and im done!
Karen says
Ooh, brave girl to do pink all over the lid. I’ll have to try that for fun soon. Hopefully I can pull it off like you!
How’s your Friday going?
NeenaJ says
I love the 2nd look. It’s so beachy-fresh!
BTW, have you been turned on to The Cat Scan yet? Google it – it’s on Tumblr and it’s hilarious. My husband sent me the link after I forwarded him your Breaded Cats.
Karen says
Ooh, I want to try that with Tabs now! Poor cat… good thing he’s very patient.
Happy Friday!

YES. Cheers for the kudos karen!

I saw two MUAs at the MAC store wearing a look made from this quad. Between the Chinese MUA and the African-American MUA, the African-American MUA wore it best. The orange/coral colors really popped against her chocolate brown skin. She really saturated the color while the other MUA with the light skin only used it as a wash which didn’t do her or the quad any justice. 🙁
I held off from buying this quad because the only color that appealed to me was Brash (copper). I already had it when it was released in the Spiced Chocolate quad a few years back. I wasn’t impressed with the color payoff of the other 3 shades in the quad either. I was able to mimic the orange eyeshadow look of the African-American MUA with the eyeshados and pigments I had already.

I have blue eyes, and I LOVE these colours!!! I can only shop online and the colours are way different in person than they are online, but in a very good way. They make my eyes pop and you can wear them as an intense orange or almost like a water colour coral wash. Very impressed with this stuff!
corallista says
I never end up liking all the shades from a quad or even 3 for that matter. I like the orange-y shade the most, the rest seem to pale for my skin.

Karen, I just have to compliment your skin. In the past few posts your skin has been looking so radiant and glow-y! What is your skin care and foundation/concealer routine like these days? Your food posts make me think that it might have something to do with all the veggies you’ve been enjoying.
