Iridescent and Opalescent, MAC’s New Extra Dimension Eye Shadows Illuminate Lids Here in Our Dimension Too

“Warp drive on my mark, ensign. 3-2-1, mark! ETA to the MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadows in Opalesse, Smoky Mauve and Triple Impact, t-minus 10 seconds…”

My favorite thing about this time of year? You mean, other than the beautiful flowers everywhere (allergies, be damned!) and the reemergence of my favorite pair of flip-flops and the liberation of my toes?

The sunnier days also seem like a good excuse to wear shimmery, glimmering eye shadows.

Whenever I’m wearing something luminescent on my lids — perhaps something like the new MAC’s Extra Dimension Eye Shadows ($21 per 0.07-ounce pan) — as Tabs and I soak up the sun on our afternoon walks, I feel an extra bounce in my step. :D

The six new shades, each in MAC’s hybrid liquid-powder formula, beam down to the planet’s surface (and MAC counters and stores) April 11 with the rest of the In Extra Dimension collection. The shadows range from sheer, opalescent shades too full-on frosts.

Of course, if you don’t want to wait those two more days, they are available now online

I’ve been working with three of them for a few days — Opalesse, Triple Impact and Smokey Mauve — and we’ve gotten pretty close. I haven’t had any issues with fallout, and as long as I layer them on top of a primer, they last me from 8-10 hours, with barely a hint of creasing or fading (they crease and fade more noticeably when I wear them without primer)

MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadow in Opalesse: This sheer opalescent shadow reminds me of a MAC Vex stripped of its greenish blue flash. A very pretty pinkish peach opal. Absolutely gorgeous buffed onto lids with a 217. It just glows!

MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadow in Triple Impact: Another opalescent shadow, except that this one’s lavender with violet pearl. On its own, it illuminates lids like a regular Thomas Edison, but I think its real strength is smokey eyes. I pat a little in the inner half or all over my lids atop a black creamy base, and the iridescent, shimmery purple adds a twinkle of sparkle that’s less intense than a trip on the glitter train.

MAC Extra Dimension Eye Shadow in Smoky Mauve: Shiny like a supernova version of MAC Satin Taupe on my NC42 skin, I think it’s a little too frosty for me, but you might like it if you tend toward shadows with a mirror-like shine. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B

Hello and happy Tuesday, fellow extra dimensional traveler. :) It’s another sunny day here by the Bay…one of those days I would love to play hooky.

Come on, we could go hiking together! What do ya say?

I wish. No, I have to drive into the city for a work lunch, and as usual, I’m stressing over what to wear.

When I transitioned into full-time pet assisting, my wardrobe took on a great many pairs of yoga pants and hoodies, all of which are currently covered in fur.

Speaking of fur and furious creatures, I’d better take Tabs for his walk this morning before he throws a fit. You have a great day, okay?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

These are so pretty! Smoky Mauve is my favorite.

It’s finally getting warm here, so I’m excited to get a pedicure and break out some skirts and dresses.

Although lately, my fashion motto has been “Cat hair is the new black.” :-)

      Hi Ruchita,

Yay to the weather finally getting warmer, although I will miss the Mingy in the snow pictures. :)

So…you know you’re a cat lady when you stash pet hair rollers all over the place. Do you have one in your car? I have two, LOL!

  2. They are all very pretty!

I really like this pink look on you. And I totally agree on the Smokey Mauve; I was nearly blinded when I scrolled past the swatch. :)

    • Karen says:

      Hey Kim,

I’m thinking that you could easily pull off one of the opalescent shades. Maybe the purple? :)

      • Kim says:

I’ll have to check that out the next time I’m in the MAC store. Right now I’m thinking of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder since my VIB discount is right around the corner. It’s pricey and I’m not sure I’d wear it, though. I’d ask you to talk me out of buying it but I know you won’t! :)

So beautiful! can’t wait to see them in France! I’ve just ordered the new pro longwear paint pot in Vintage selectiion, I hope it will be nice.
    Congratulations, you’re very pretty :)

I like Smoky Mauve! Don’t think I own anything QUITE like it!

Good luck finding something to wear for that work lunch! I always have real problems de-furring my clothes as well. Oh well ;)

Smoky Mauve is the best! But the lips are taking center stage in these pictures! Beautiful color. What are you wearing?

I’m thinking about Smoky Mauve – very pretty shade.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Danielle,

That shade is really pretty. Just smudge some black liner along your lash lines and you’d have a perfect, easy eye look.

Hope you had a nice day!

  9. agnese says:

the most that I like is smoky mauve, but I would know what you wear on your lips, your lips seem wonderful

  10. Jennifer says:

Wow I love both of those but not sure about them looking so fab on lighter skin like mine… might just look like frosted pink eye. No?
