If you were wondering why I love pale, shimmery golden shadows like MAC’s Dare to Bare Mineralize Eye Shadow (and I don’t know why you would), lemme break it down for you.
They never make me feel bloated or sausage-y (unlike my skinny jeans). They never bite me (unlike my moody tabby cat). They never show up unannounced, seemingly out of nowhere (unlike those annoyingly stiff chin hairs that always crop up when I’m driving).
All they want to do is love. 🙂 My favorite ones, like Dare to Bare, get my day started right, because they’re potent fatigue fighters, meaning that they help me look less tired.
And I sure needed the help today. My noisy new neighbors (the Finch Family) are early risers (you know, tryin’ to get that worm), and boy! — they’re loud.
I mean, I get it. Every new day is a reason to celebrate, but can’t we wait until 6:30-ish or 7? Come on, guys, cut a girl some slack.
Thankfully, I Dared to Bare this morning. It’s from the MAC Tropical Taboo collection, which landed on counters today. There are six Mineralize Eye Shadows in the release, but this one’s gorgeous mix of cream, violet and gold caught my eye first.
I want to decorate my bedroom in these colors… I think that’d be so soothing and conducive to good sleep.
When you mix Dare to Bare’s colors together with a wet brush (I use a 217 spritzed with Fix+) and buff that on lids, the colors melt together in a cool way. On my lids, I get a shimmery, peachy pale gold with violet accents that I can see sometimes out of the corner of my eye when I turn my head or blink.
Really, really pretty, and I think that it’s that subtle violet that distinguishes it from similar MAC standards like Ricepaper.
Additional MAC Tropical Taboo makeup worn in this look:
- EYES: Feline and Orpheous Kohl Power Eye Pencils
- CHEEKS: Mineralize Skinfinish in Adored
- LIPS: Lip Pencil in Hip ‘N’ Happy, Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Divine Choie and Cremesheen Glass in Calypso Beat
Dare to Bare’s violet side also opens the door to pairings with pale purples. Today I wore it all over my lids with MAC Shale lightly swept into the outer corner, and I think the two looked really pretty together.
I also looked considerably less tired, so woo-hoo!

Onward to Friday!
And it couldn’t come soon enough… I’m tapped out. Pooped. Tired.
Got any plans this weekend? It’s supposed to be scorching hot here, so I’m hoping to make it to the pool. Water babies, put your hands up! 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Thanks, Minsooky!

I’m probably one of those people! But being up at 4am or 3am’s not a personal choice for me 🙁 Oh well, nice to get work done early in the day right?
Karen says
Hi Lauren,
Why do you have to get up so early? What sort of work do you do?
Sarah says
That color is amazing on you, and your skin is flawless!
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
Thank you! Do you think you might pick up anything from this collection?
Tracy@Beauty Reflections says
PRETTY!! I didn’t have time today at the mall, but I want to check this collection out. I love MAC’s mineralized stuffs!
It’s going to be SO HOT for you guys! And then it comes all the way up here. UGGH.
Karen says
OMG, yes. 95 degrees today!
Have fun checking out the collection, and don’t forget the MSFs. 🙂
Darbie says
Good to know I was eyeing dare to bare. Commitment issues…sigh!
Karen says
I feel you, Darbie! I usually waffle back and forth between a few colors too. What do you have so far on your list?
Allison says
Looks gorgeous! Dare to Bare and Tropica were the only ones that really caught my eye from this new collection. The swatches of Dare to Bare on Temptalia looked much more purple, I am glad its not quite as lilac!

I think how much purple comes out really depends on your skin tone! When I want to play it up I layer it on top of Bare Study Paint Pot. 🙂
Kim says
It looks great with purple and seems like it would be nice with pink, too. 🙂
We’re getting a ton of rain and have flood warnings going on (then again, I find that people here have been increasingly overreacting to weather forecasts over the last decade!)
I’ve been forgetting to ask if you’re watching the new season of True Blood and, if so, what you think.
Karen says
Oh, good call! I bet something golden pink would be awesome. 🙂
It looks like I will have to virtually soak up some sun for you. It’s supposed to be 95 here today (talk about moody weather drama) and maybe in 100s over the weekend.
So, I’m totally behind on all of our shows. Still haven’t watched Game of Thrones or the new True Blood. 🙁
Kim says
I keep having to watch TB on demand much later in the week, so I sympathize. As usual, the writers are making some interesting choices but it’s been entertaining.
Oh, you haven’t seen this season of GoT? The upside is that, no matter what comes your way, it will never be worse than when they killed Ned. 🙂
Danielle says
Love this. I didn’t rush out to get anything from this collection, but I think I will be at the mall tomorrow.
Karen says
Sweet. Have fun playing with Tropical Taboo!
Lancy says
Wow! I love your eye makeup look very much here.. Great pics Karen 🙂
Karen says
Thanks, Lancy!
Ronnie says
OMGOSH THIS IS THE MOST STUNNING PIC OF YOU! 🙂
Laure says
Whoa! This looks really amazing on you! It gives you a soft but intense look (if that makes sense ;)), almost ethereal.
