Ahhh, glitter. I couldn’t get enough of you circa 1998, when all I ever needed in my makeup life was a heavy spackling of you in various obnoxious colors around my eyes.
Back then we’d spend every Saturday night together. Underneath the shimmer of a disco ball and colored lights, I’d be drenched in your sparkle as I danced ’til the wee hours in the club in my knee-high go-go boots.
But times change; sometimes I feel too old to wear you. I’m not the same care-free club girl I was then, and even though in many ways I’m glad I’m not her anymore (she was a lot of fun, but often unfocused) I miss having a lil’ glitter in my life.
Glitter, I thought I was ready to let go of you, but MAC’s Glitter, from the Originals collection ($16.50 a jar), rekindled my love.
I’ve been feeling the glittery spirit lately, so I’ve been using Reflects Antique Gold on top of a matte peach blush to highlight my cheeks. Note: I’m not looking to resemble a Vegas showgirl on roller skates, so there is a method to the madness.
Fluffy blush brushes spread glitter all over the place, so I use a stiff, flat brush, like MAC’s 252, to apply the glitter atop the apples of my cheeks.
I don’t dip the brush into the jar because if I do it comes out wearing a clump of glitter. Instead, I swab glitter off the thin plastic stopper MAC includes in the jar under the cap. I flip this stopper into the lid and grab the color from there, tapping the excess back into the jar. On my face, I apply it slowly in layers to carefully control the amount of glitter that gets deposited.
If you’re tempted to go all a-crazy with glitter, just keep it far, far away from your eyes. There are warnings on the box to keep the product “entirely clear of the eye area.” Hell naw to eye irritation, so I mainly use MAC Glitter on my cheeks. If I’m headed out to a party, I may also wear some on my shoulders or decollete, but that’s about it.
Tomorrow is Friday! Are ya ready to rock? I’m usually overjoyed at the thought of Fridays, but this time Friday means my vacation from my day job is almost over. I’m a little bummed about having to get back to the grind, but a girl’s gotta work to hold it down. At least I always have my dreams to keep my spirit afloat, ya know?
Who knows what the future holds. I’ll just keep moving forward and hope that you do the same, my friend.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I JUST read the warning (like exactly 4 hours ago!!) to keep it out of the eye area. Of course this was waaay after the fact that I decided to 242 it onto my lid the other day just to see the effects. Not to mention that it did make it into my eye but as far as irritation, nothing out of the ordinary. Now, I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do with them. My eyes are boo-boo’ed as they are already. I may try the cheek thing, but I’m not much into sparkle anywhere outside of my eyes. Oh boy, whatta do?
On a better note, Happy Aloha Friday!! Yay. That means I get Hubbo for 4 days. Hot-diggity-dog lova’ :))))

Hmm… yeah I just bought very pink reflects and of course i had no idea about the warning on the box. This being my first glitter from MAC. I dunno how I feel about it. I did try it on my eyes today, and didn’t have a problem. But I really won’t wear this on my cheeks or anywhere else, so I’m not sure what else I’d do with it. I’m quite bummed about the warning, the MAC pro should have mentioned it.

Hey Karen!
These look cute!! But as I’ve read before, they can’t be used over eyes, so what are they for? It’s a pity because these would look stunning used wet as a liner, or just layered over a shadow….
=(
Hugs!!!
Eru.

That seems awful! Glitter everywhere but the eyes? I’m far more likely to cave on the golden-olive pigment! Big thanks to you, Karen, for making sure we all know!

Those colors are just soooo pretty. But I’ve never been much of a glitter girl. Any hint of glitter and I’m screaming. I’m a Friday fan too!! Heyyyyyy!!!
Peace and happy Friday to you, Karen! 08 is around the corner! Can you believe it?
Karen says
OH Mrs. Lynne, fire up that love train 😉
I suppose one could mix the glitters with glosses, or press them into lipsticks, which is one trick I saw used by the MAC artists backstage during SF Fashion week.
Karen says
Hey Anon,
That’s too bad. It’s so pretty – how about mixing it with a gloss?
Karen says
Hi Erusa,
Big hugs back to ya, hon. 🙂
Hope you are well and that you have a fantastic new year!
Karen says
Hey Eru – one question for you! Why is it a Spanish tradition to wear red underwear during New Year’s eve?!?! I went to a Spanish restaurant last year for New Year’s eve dinner and I remember people talking about wearing red underwear, ha ha ha!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
That Golden Olive pigment is up your green-loving alley. You best get it or I just might cry.
Have a good weekend, my friend 🙂
Karen says
Divine Blackness (Hey Brittnay!),
Happy New Year’s to you, too! I hope 2008 is a full of success and happiness for you 🙂
Mrs. Lynne says

I have been wearing the glittlers in my eyes and had no problem i put mixing medium on lids and it sticks all day!
Karen says
Oh, good to know, Jeni! I’ll wear undies with both colors next New Years, LOL!
I have been wanting to try the mixing medium for a while. Do you use the MAC one?
Hope you had a good day, and happy new year! 🙂

Hi Karen,
I am a MACaholic and I recently bought some Metal X cream eyeshadows. I would love it if you posted up application tips. Also, what kind of brushes would work best with the cream eyeshadows?
