By the old makeup gods and the new, I swear that I will never star in a reality TV show…voluntarily, but if were to accidentally stumble into a situation where a show needed a sassy, fast-talking, makeup-loving crazy cat lady, I’ve decided that my catch phrase will be “It looks better in black!” because if you ask for my opinion on something, that’s pretty much my stock answer, whether it’s bags, clothes, shoes or now, in the case of new Lipstick Queen Black Lace Rabbit, makeup.
IT LOOKS BETTER IN BLACK!
Sheer black lipsticks aren’t anything new, because old-school shades like Clinique Black Honey have been around since the ’90s, but this one has a spark-tacular twist…
The flecks are so fine that it’s hard to see them in pics, but that’s a great thing in this case. Basically, they’re more Barneys New York than Party City.
In person? Oh, just wait… That moment when the light hits your lips and those tiny golden sparkles dance is pure magic.
And after a couple hours on your lips, the glossy sheer black color transforms into a barely-there pink tint.
Added bonus: if you’re feeling adventurous, you can also layer Black Lace Rabbit on top of other lipsticks to deepen them.
The formula feels moisturizing and doesn’t latch onto any lip flakes. I also like the subtle vanilla flavor, which tastes yum-o, but I don’t detect a scent, in case you’re wondering.
Black Lace Rabbit is $24, and you can find it now at Ulta Beauty, Barneys New York and Lipstick Queen.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Hmm, this one leaves me a bit confused, though you wear it well. I was hoping it’d be a close sister to CG Katy Perry in Panther. That’s my spirit color & it’s def Party City & quite edgy. But I don’t see that the two are related. Oh, well. More pennies for other makeup goodies ☺️
Karen says
I love that you have a spirit color! I need to find one… Chances are it’s a hot pink. 🙂

Just now seeing this. Long day. And, yep, black lipstick makes me feel like a baddie. Pink is a close second. ☺️

There’s something strangely appealing about the idea of spreading black lipstick on my lips… I couldn’t rock an opaque black, but a sheer version with gold shimmer? Oooh yes!
Karen says
Right? I don’t know why, but it’s terribly satisfying!

I bought a sheer black gloss from uhh OCC a couple years ago, that you were supposed to use over other things. This is what I wished it was! I never used it because the texture was so bad and I couldn’t get it even on my lips, but lipstick queen has never let me down with their sheer formulas, so huh this might be my 2016 vampy look. As much as I try to wear matte browns this year, I keep coming back to sheer roses just like I always have.
Karen says
Ooh, you’ll like this formula then. It’s lightweight and comfortable. I haven’t tried many of Lipstick Queen’s sheers; do you have a favorite?

Jean Queen and Mideval are amazing, and I love Perfect Wave from the Endless Summer collection. I also have the green one, and I like it but it’s more of a novelty piece than the other three which are standout everyday colors. I haven’t used the saint and sinner collection at all, though I’ve heard great things, just haven’t gotten there.

I’ve always been a bit scared of black lipstick, but this is pretty wearable! I love the subtle sparkle too!
Karen says
Totally wearable. You could rock this!
Kiss & Make-up says
That doesn’t look half bad! I only have one Lipstick Queen lippie, the green one, Frog Prince. Goes on pink.
Karen says
Yeah, it’s pretty, especially with the gold glitter!
Jane says
Maybe in my late 20’s I could’ve rocked that look, but it’s way too edgy for me now. It does look good on you, however, especially with the bangs. I have been meaning to compliment you on them.
Karen says
Thanks, Jane! The bangs are getting a little unruly (I need to get them trimmed soon) but I like them for now.
What did you guys do for the long weekend? We stuck close to home and recovered. I’ve been exhausted lately!
Kim says
Oooh, I like it. Of course, I’m a Black Honey fan (after all these years) so that’s no surprise. I’m not sure about the gold glitter but it seems subtle. As usual, I can’t go by what looks good on you, since everything does. HAHA! Happy Wednesday, btw. I hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend. I took an extra day to I could send the kiddos off on their first day of school. It’s their last year before High School. 🙁
Karen says
Wait, WHAT?! I can’t deal with them going to high school. SERIOUSLY. I was just chatting with a friend of mine who also has kids and were were like, “Where does the time go?” I swear I blink and years pass.
Next thing you know they’ll be going to college, OMG!
Indya says
This looks A LOT better than I thought it would!
Karen says
Yeah, it’s surprisingly wearable!
Erin says
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Karen says
LOL!
