The year was 1999… I’d finished school and moved back in with my parental units while I looked for a job and tried to unwind.
My BFF/dancing buddy J. Money and I were also deep in our clubbing phase. I’ll never forget — it was the same thing every time we’d go out. One of our Filipino parents would ask, “Are you girls going to the disco?”
LOL!
Or, “Are you going disco-disco?”
Hearing parental units refer to “the club” as a disco… That’s just so funny. It always cracked us up. 🙂
Still, there are times when “disco” just feels like the better word, ya know? — like when it comes to Lippmann Collection’s Happy Birthday ($18), the newest addition to their permanent nail polish line.
This stuff’s so blinged out and sparkly that it would be a shame not to wear it to “the disco,” ha!
It’s all about taking glitter to the next level, with bits in a plethora of shapes, colors and sizes — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and silver.
For a full-on, eyes-rolling-to-the-back-of-the-head glitter-gasm, try three coats. 🙂
Three coats!
Two coats — when you’re in the mood for quieter glitter
So far I’ve only worn Happy Birthday by itself, but I’m guessing it would look extra festive layered beneath a polish in solid black or red.
Removing glittery nail polishes can be a major chore. This post here might help.
I bet Happy Bday makes a great gift, too. It’s aptly named, after all. Maybe with some sweet treats, a Laguna Beach: Season One DVD and one of those Sephora gift cards…
Only thing is the $18 part. That’s kinda pricey for a nail polish, but with all the various glitter shapes and sizes, it seems like a unique product. I can’t remember seeing something like it before.
Because it’s Lippmann, it’s durable, resists chipping and doesn’t contain nasty formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate.
Wearing it, I can’t help but grin and feel a little happier than I was a moment ago. I’d be even happier if it were cheaper, LOL! But C’est la vie. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+
Time for an intervention
*Ring-a-ling-a-ling!!*
Hello?
Yes, hello, Karen, this is destiny. I’m calling to tell you that you’re still on track to becoming a Crazy Cat Lady.
Oh, good. 🙂
Last night I had to do some shopping at Target. It wasn’t until I was in line at the checkout that I fully realized what I’d done. I only got a few things; in addition to some Soap and Glory products (reviews coming soon!) and a massive tub of rocky road ice cream, I’d also acquired an outfit for Tabs.
He looks so professional, doesn’t he? In his little blue tie?
Now he needs his own desk, too, and some Post-Its. Maybe also an abacus. Hmm…
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

This shade is so pretty, I would wear it on top of a creamy sky blue but every time I see chunky glitter on my nail, all I feel like doing is to to pick them out…

Hi Citrine,
Oh, that would be so pretty!

That is one of the best glitter polishes I have seen! It reminds me of a pair of shoes I have seen a while back ago by Stuart Weitzman. I love myself some bling bling nails.

Hi Amy,
Oh yah! Now that I think about it they kinda remind me a pair from Miu Miu a while back.
Christina says
I love it! I’m not a glitter girl all the time, but the bright colors are awfully persuasive…

Hi Christina,
The colors are calling your name… you must heed them!

Hi Dip,
Yes it is! You won’t be able to stop staring. 🙂
Rebecca says
What an awesome polish! I love it! I’m pretty picky about glitter polish, but this one is close to perfect.
…A cat tie? LOL, you never fail to crack me up! That reminds me of when I used to dress my cat up in doll clothes and carry him around in a basket. He hated it, despite the fact that I told him girl kitties love a cat who’s in touch with his feminine side.

Hi Rebecca,
I’m thinking that’s going to be the next step in my CCL evolution. I wonder if it would be weird if I bought him a dress from the baby section at Target… because in my mind it’s perfectly rational.
Rae says
Oh. My. God. I LOVE that!
$18 is pretty hefty for a polish, though. I wonder if I could DIY this? Might have to give it a try!!
.-= Rae’s last blog post… B to the L to the AAAAAH. =-.
Karen says
Hi Rae,
I think it’s totally DIY doable. I probably don’t have the patience to mix up the glitter and get all science experiment on it though, LOL!
gn. says
Oh yes, people may still refer “clubs” here to “disco” (pronounced with a cut ‘o’ sound)…but see, clubs here refer to the dingy, videoke/karaoke run-of-the mill ones. 😀

Hi Gn.,
YIKES! I will be sure to stay away from the clubs and head to the discos. 😉
Maggie says
That is LOVE.
But the price? HATE. 🙁
.-= Maggie’s last blog post… EOTD: Indian Ocean + Update =-.
Karen says
Hi Maggie,
It’s typical of Lippmann polishes — they usually run about $16, I think they’re charging extra for the bling on this!
Stef says
That will be one profesh kitty in that tie!
I didn’t realize he had managerial duties at MBB, but he must if he needs a tie…

Tavia says
Hi Karen! As maybe you already now I’m not a fan of glitter ( makeup or nailpolish) but I can’t help loving this one. It makes me happy only looking at it and I could use it on one of those clubbing nights when most of my outfit is black. This should really look like an interesting color spot :). Can fancy nail polishes be considered accessories when all your outfit is simple? 🙂
.-= Tavia’s last blog post… Fashion Smoke makeup inspired by Too Faced Smoky eye palette =-.
Karen says
Hi Tavia,
Totally! I’d probably stay away from any other jewelry around the hand area — skip the rings and bracelets, as it might be too much bling.
MichikoFliz says
WOW! The glitter is intense! The glitter colours are well picked and I love the different glitter sizes! This is a definite must have.
Although if it’s 18 in the US, it will be hella expensive here in Australia.
Karen says
Hi MichikoFliz,
Probably. Hmm, do you know anybody headed to Hawaii? I know there’s a Nordstrom on Oahu. Chances are they probably have the shade there.
ezzie says
when i first saw that picture of the polish on your nail, i was like, whoaaaaa! that’s one crazy nail polish! i’m loving it though, it’s definatly on my WANT list (:
Karen says
Hi Ezzie,
It’s a lot of fun! You’ll be the envy of all your friends at school. 🙂
Marce says
OMG that tie!!! It reminds me…a couple of years ago when I lived in Australia we used to “dress up” my friend Annette’s cat, Ginger. Underwear, banana peels (they look cute!), etc. Poor kitty!
I’m not a fan of glitter on nails but this is awesome. Something I’d actually consider buying, if it weren’t for the price! How about doing a DIY version? I think clear nail polish and craft glitter would do the trick, what say you? 😉
.-= Marce’s last blog post… Look – Halloween!!! =-.
Karen says
Hi Marce,
Banana peels? That’s too funny. 🙂
A DIY version would be totally easy, methinks. I’d probably lay down a layer of clear polish first, sprinkle on the craft glitter, and then pop another layer on top. If you end up doing it let me know how it turns out!
lAUREN says
man after glitter like that why bother with anything else! also good luck getting that outfit on that cat

Super-fabulous glitterosity, and I love the word ‘plethora’! 😀
Can’t wait to see White-collar Tabs! LOL! Watch out, he might unionize and demand extra gravy for overtime!
Karen says
Hi Glosslizard,
It is a good word. I once used it in conjunction with the words “terry cloth tracksuit.” Try it sometime!
OMG, he’s already asking for benefits.

where can you get Lippmann products. i live in canada, so i don’t even know if it’s available here. i know the website says that they ship to US destinations only *pouts*.
have you seen their holiday 3-piece collection? the sparkly red one looks to die for *dreamily stares off*
H.
Karen says
Hi H,
The only places I know to get them are Nordstrom and the Lippmann website. I tried to look around to see if they had shipping to Canada but couldn’t find the answer. Maybe e-mail one of their customer service reps? Here’s a link to the site: Lippmann Collection.

i love it – so festive! i’ve seen some girls layer happy birthday over silver, and i think that if i pick it up, that’s the look i’m going to try first. it looked awesome that way!

Hi Kerrthamina,
Sliver layered beneath sounds pretty. I’ll have to try that.
Kate & Zena says
:giggles: Tabs is going to look so cute in that!
I’m trying to decide which sweater would put Zena in for Sunday. She will hopefully be getting blessed. Apparently, my parents’ church blessing pets. The Little Stinker outfit is out as that would be ridiculous; ditto for the Christmas sweater. So I’m stuck between two green argyles and a blue sweater. Maybe I should put her in a ribbon. I haven’t decided.
I’ve decided to take the night off for essays. I finally got rid of my stress migraine when I decided no essays for tonight. Or homework for that matter. Three days of essay writing is detrimental to my mind it seems. No mentioning choir or essays or homework. It is my night off. Whee!!!
Oh yea, I also learned a very important lesson. The Seche line and Orly Bonder do not agree with me. Seche contains toulene which feels like it’s sinking into my nails all the way down to my finger nerves. Can I say that hurt really, really, really badly? I was not a happy nail polish addict. The Bonder contains Formaldehyde resin which is bad, bad, bad for me. I’m allergic to formaldehyde in every form. I can’t wear my falsies because my falsies glue has formaldehyde in it (yep, Duo has formaldehyde). I don’t even want to know what the formaldehyde is used for in the glue.
One migraine and a good sloughing off nail polish later, I can say with absolute certainty have learned my lesson. Stick to the Borghese Presto Top Coat (or OPI Rapidry) and OPI Natural Base Coat. Apparently, my habit of reading every single label went on vacation when I saw them on sale at some random drugstore a few weeks ago. It’s 3-Free for Kate from now on.

I love this polish! I’m definitely gonna have to go grab it the next time I’m in the mall. It’s so festive; I just can’t resist 🙂 I’m gonna have to try a bunch of different shades underneath & see which ones work best. Hope you are excited for the weekend, as it’s pretty much here. This week seemed to fly right by.
Goodnight 🙂
Karen says
Hi Megan ****,
TGIF! I’m so glad the weekend’s just around the corner. Do you have any exciting plans?

it looks like a kid’s art project but not in a bad way. i’d like to try the lippman holiday set with the red, black and bronze. i think i would get more use out of them.

I need a glittery top coat (I’m sure this Lipmann one would work!). And BTW the best way to remove any polish, even glitter, is with FELT. I learned it from the YT guru Glintzy :D.
Oh and I have to mention the “Nails Night Out” thing going on soon. http://www.pitchengine.com/free-release.php?id=30363
Ashley says
OMG! -insert insane girly shrieking here- THAT IS WAY TOO CUTE!! I love how the polish looks like in the bottle AND on your nail. I want it so badly but $18!? I rarely even pay for Essie at full price nor when it’s on “sale”. I’m having trouble getting rid of all my nail polishes that have accumulated since the millenium. When I do the official dump… I think I can splurge on this sweet gem.
Hyzenthlay says
That is so cheerful . . . I may just have to get some 🙂 I’ve started using a document camera as I explain things to my students (much easier than turning my back on them to use the whiteboard) and now my nails are SO CONSPICUOUS! I put on OPI Princesses Rule last weekend, and got compliments from kiddos until it peeled. This would definitely get their attention! 🙂
My only question . . . how much of a PITA is it to get off? Glitters can be SO AWFUL!
Nora says
It looks like cupcake sprinkles!
DoDe says
WOW I love that
Karen says
Hi DoDe,
It’s an AWESOME color. I love it too!
