Mysterious things that confuse me…
- The allure of Mark Ruffalo. I dunno, he kinda reminds me of those caveman guys from the Geico commercials. I just don’t get it (sorry, Mark! I loved you in The Avengers!).
- Cat allegiance. Tabs loves me, Tabs loves me not. One day he’s following me from room to room and baking enough biscuits on my tum to feed a small kitty army; the next, I’m not even worth a glance and a meow. How rude!
- The new limited edition Dior Diorshow Waterproof Liner in Turquoise ($29) from the summer 2012 Croisette Collection.
The color of this intense crystal blue twist-up liner, with its flecks of tiny teal glitter, looks like it was inspired by a crystal-clear tropical bay.
It’s really cute! When I swatch it on the back of my hand, a single swipe delivers long-wearing, rich color that lasts through rigorous rubbing and several hand washings, and even though the formula is a little on the dry side, it still applies smoothly…at least on the back of my hand.
Based on the swatch, I was sure Turquoise would see a lot of use this summer, and I expected to fall in love with it after the very first swipe along my upper and lower lash lines. Unfortunately, it likes the back of my hand quite a bit better than my eyes.
Weird!
The first layer skips and tugs along my lash lines and looks pretty patchy on my eyes, but I can even out the color if I keep applying layers (between 4-5).
I thought this was also strange: it’s not nearly as durable or waterproof on my eyes as it is on my hands. I had a bad allergy attack the other day — watery eyes, sneezing, the whole nine yards — and after touching my eyes a few times that afternoon (I know I shouldn’t have, but I couldn’t resist), most of the liner had disappeared. Odd, considering how well the swatch withstood the few times I washed my hands.
For me, Turquoise is like a guy who looks good on paper, but you just don’t have any sparks with him when you go out on a date.
I love how it performs on the back of my hand…so if that ever comes in style, I’ll know exactly where to go! 🙂
PRICE: $29
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Dior counters and nordstrom.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B- (a lovely summer shade, but the formula could use some adjusting)
Driven by snoring: My late-night beauty wish list
Good morning, fellow beauty lover. I had a hard time falling asleep last night (El Hub’s snoring has been out of control!), so I figured, why not surf the web for new beauty ideas?
Even though I miss my pink streaks, I do not miss the maintenance! The new Solid Extensions from Sultra at Sephora ($18 each) just might satisfy my hair color cravings.
Have you tried these yet? I’m so curious!
I also found a few new goodies from Caudalie that look intriguing, like their Divine Scented Oil for skin, hair and nails ($48), Vinosource Riche Intense Moisture Rescue Cream for very dry skin ($38), Vinsource Moisturizing Sorbet for sensitive skin ($38) and Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum ($48).
I like the idea of scented nail polishes, like this Scensational Six Fruit-Scented Nail Lacquer Kit from Sephora by OPI ($24.50). Have you given these a sniff/try?
And speaking of nails, how cute is this Kate Spade Travel Nail Polish Set ($28)? Want!
How about you? What’s on your beauty wish list these days?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Nina says
I have the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet for sensitive skin and id have to say, when I use it, it makes me feel like a million bucks. 🙂 Since it is a bit spendy, I alternate it with another awesome moisturizer by First Aid Beauty! 🙂
So. That liner is totally up my alley but … for the price, I would want it to perform fab on both the back of my hand and my upper/lower lashline. :-/ Sad that it doesnt.
Karen says
I thought of you yesterday when I went to Sephora to pick up some Caudalie lotion! I know you’re a fan of the line… besides the Sorbet and the Vinoperfect serum, what else do you like?
Nina says
I LOVE the Cleansing Water. It is probably the only cleanser that doesnt make my eyes sting, plus it smells so yummy!
The Eye and Lip Cream is also great, and I think thats going to be my next full size splurge. 🙂 Im about done with my current eye cream. 🙂
Karen says
Will add that eye/lip cream to my lust list. 🙂 Have you smelled any of the perfumes? I think I might have to grab one of those eventually too.
Amanda says
That’s a bummer. The color looks really pretty and perfect for summer but too bad it doesn’t apply and perform well.
Karen says
Hi Amanda,
I know! I guess you can’t win ’em all.
Kim says
Happy Tuesday! I thought of you when I was kept awake by the flopping Hubs last night. Usually I’m not bothered, but this time I was. It’s like the time I told you I could easily touch my palms to the floor – and then the next week I pulled a hamstring that severely limited my flexibility. This could be a scary trend. HAHA!
I think this Dior liner would be a very fashionable way to write my notes-to-self on my hand. My Bic pen is so pedestrian. 🙂
Very with you on the Mark R comment, too. Loved Avengers and thought he was very good in it, but overall I don’t feel him (I kind of blame In the Cut for that. If you haven’t seen it, don’t!). My friend made a similar comment to me while I was gushing about Jeremy Renner, whom I like a lot and she finds creepy.
Karen says
WHAT? Jeremy Renner creepy? I totally don’t get that. He’s cute in the boy next door sort of way.
Naomi says
I had the same experience with some of the colours of the NYX slim eye pencils. Looked great in the swatch but tugged at my eyelids! I thought it was just me doing something wrong or having sensitive eyes! Good to know it wasnt just me!!!!
Karen says
Hi Naomi,
Do you have a hairdryer around? Softening the tip with a few seconds of heat might help.
Happy Tuesday!
nawi says
Hello,
My mom and I both bought this eyeliner and both have no trouble with the apply at all, stays put the whole day so I do not understand maybe you got a monday morning one lol.
thanks for posting.
Karen says
Hi Nawi,
Interesting! I’m glad to hear it was smooth and easy to apply for you. It really is a beautiful color.
Tor says
I love how you applied it! It looks classy but a teeny bit tribal (that is definitely a good thing, I’m a massive Bat for Lashes fan!). I can’t seem to get on with liner, though – my lashes get in the way, and it ends up looking chalky. I use Rimmel pencils – is it just the formula, or am I missing something in my technique?
Karen says
Hi Tor,
What type of liner are you using? I find that pencils with twist up packaging, like this one, are so much easier to apply because they’re very skinny.
Have you considered trying a gel liner like the MAC Fluidlines? That might be another way to go as well.
Tor says
I’ve got the Maybelline gel, which does seem a lot better (although it smudges a little). I can’t get the same denim blues and pearly whites, though. I’m using kohl pencils, but maybe I need to re-try using them wet in a kind of powder/cream compromise.
gio says
How disappointing! The color is so pretty!
Karen says
Yes it is!
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
Aw thats disappointing. I knew it was too good to be true though…I have a tendency to distrust most eyeliners long-wearing claims because I’ve had such terrible experiences in the past. The only one that hasn’t let me down is Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Eyes. Thank goodness they offer such a wide variety of beautiful colors!
PS: did you ever pick up the Vinoperfect serum? I just had to pick up another bottle yesterday. It’s always a little painful when I go to pay–but the results are so worth it!
Karen says
Hi Becca,
I did! I’m about halfway through the bottle. I love it for moisture, but I’m still waiting on big changes. Have you noticed a huge difference since you’ve started using it?
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
Ah how weird! I’m not the biggest fan of the texture (wish it were creamier), this shows up and lasts REALLY well on my lower lash line! Even WITHOUT a primer, it lasts all day with no fading or smudging! I don’t even have to set it with an eyeshadow!
Goes to show how different skin can be!
I’ve tried EVERYTHING on your Caudalie wish list (just got the Divine Scented Oil today so I still have to give it a thorough test. However I did sneakily spritzed some on my hands and I can tell you it 1) isn’t greasy at all! 2) leaves skin as soft as baby’s butt 3) smells insanely good.
Go ahead Karen! The Vinosource line isn’t a “fancy” one. It doesn’t promise to be anti-aging or anything along that line. However, if you want a hydrating serum/lotion that works, you can find something in this range for your skin type!
Karen says
Interesting! Glad to hear the pencil’s working for you. 🙂
Tara says
Okay, I read this study that says that 15 mins a day of loud, lusty singing helps to diminish snoring. My sister snores and I told her about it, but I’m not sure if she tried it. Maybe you and your husband can do some sing alongs before bedtime!
Karen says
LOL, Tara!
I dunno… I doubt I could get El Hub to try that.
Jen says
Aww, I actually really like Mark Ruffalo! For me, it’s his voice. It’s soft and soothing. 🙂
My beauty wish list: the Becca blush in Bolero, Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush in Tipsy, and the Body Shop Honey Bronzer, mostly because it has a honeycomb pattern on it. Hey, I never said I was practical. 😛
Karen says
Hi Jen,
Great wish list! Becca’s blushes are AMAZING. Have you tried any of them?
Katherine G says
I haven’t tried the Dior Show eyeliners (I went to Sephora today and was dismayed that my previous fave Dior Show mascara seemed to have gone up $5 in price), and that one’s pretty, so it’s a shame it didn’t work out well for you. So far my favorite eyeliners are the UD 24/7 ones. The lighter ones, like Woodstock, need a few layers to make an impact, but they do well on the waterline and stay put all day, as well as remove easily when I am ready to remove them. For drugstore eyeliners, I like this L’Oreal one in Carbon Black that looks like the UD liners and goes on like them. For wear time, it’s almost as long and a good buy for a simple black liner.
I was thrilled to discover a new Sephora palette (the Sephora shopping bag one) that cost $24 and is packed with eyeshadows, lip glosses, and bronzers and blushes. It will be great for travel, since it has a good array of choices. I also came out with the UD eye shadows in Woodstock and ACDC. Looking forward to pairing those with some different shades and wearing them alone. ACDC looks to be very versatile, and hey, it’s named after one of my fave bands!
Karen says
Hi Katherine,
Oooh, please, PLEASE tell me you’ve tried UD’s 24/7 in Bourbon. It’s my favorite UD pencil of all time.

Quick, what’s your favorite ACDC song? Don’t over think it; go with your gut. Mine is You Shook Me All Night Long.
Maria says
OMG Mark R, Jerremy R and James McCavoy are my dorky man crushes. I love them. It’s strictly a nerdy guy attraction but it’s strong!
Karen says
Hi Maria,
So, totally with you on Jeremy Renner. I totally get that. Did you see him in Hurt Locker? He was excellent in that movie.
Chelsea says
That color is gorgeous on you, shame that the formula didn’t work.
Cats are very finicky, but I love my Jiji anyway!
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
Cats are like the divas of the animal world. 🙂
I just want Tabs to love me, wah!
Reena says
Awesome! all these make up colors are fit for all seasons. So divine=) It makes me jealous to see them on the model! I want one! Very nice choice of make up colors. I’ve seen a lot of this from runway models. Keep on posting. Loving it!
Karen says
Thanks!
Iram says
It looks utterly fabulous on you Karen! 🙂
I’m really really lusting over this even though you said it’s not the most pigmented on the eyes but I think that would make it good for everyday wear no?
Might just buy it because it’s turquoise and it’s Dior 😛
xo
Karen says
Thanks Iram!
Yes, the sheerer color would make this easily wearable for day. You could do a thin line along the upper lash line and add lots of mascara or false lashes. That would be really, really pretty.
Vonvon says
Oh no! I just bought thus the same day as this post. But of course, I had bought it before I read this. I swatched it in-store and it’s just sooooo lovely and wouldn’t budge….. Fingers crossed, I will get some use out of it anyways.
nawi says
Hi Vonvon, I would not worry I bought this as well and love it have no problems at all with it and its smudge proof on me what says something because normally even waterproof eyeliners are not! Hope you love it as well!
