I’m really looking forward to going to Las Vegas tomorrow because 1) it’s for Photoshop World! — and I can’t wait to get my learnins’ on; 2) I am absolutely, positively certain that this will be the trip I finally win a mega-zillion-dollar jackpot (gotta think positive); and 3) I’m not even stressing about packing tonight.
Much.
I’m not even stressing about packing, much. 🙂 Fortunately, it helps that I never fully unpacked my luggage after Kauai. Plus, ever since the Kaleidoscope Face Kit in Flawless from Le Métier de Beauté entered my life, makeup packing has gotten noticeably easier.
Like Optimus Prime, this road-ready, incredibly pricey four-pan face palette transforms. Each of its pans swivels out — WOOSH! — and then pops out from the bottom, so you can replace them when you’re finished.
Le Metier de Beaute’s Flawless Face Kaleidoscope Face Kit
The kit includes…
- Classic Flawless Face Finish Translucent — a colorless, yellowish beige powder
- Highlighter in Whisper — a pearlescent light peach highlighter
- Radiance Powder Rouge in Echo — a warm pinky peach blush with a golden sheen
- Le Metier Bronzer — a warm golden brown with flecks of golden glitter (although the glitter doesn’t really show up on my face when I wear it)
Reasons to toot-toot, beep-beep!
This kit has what it takes to create, dare I say it, flawless skin.
It’s redonk how expensive it is, but man! — it’s got the goods. Le Metier de Beaute probably could have called it anti-aging because I swear it takes a few years off. The powders are just so finely milled that they don’t look fake or heavy at all on my skin, not even close up.
When I do the bronzer, blush, highlighter and face powder combo, all four of them sit atop my trusty MAC Face+ Body, and my skin looks fresh and polished with a pretty glow. Not overly made up.
Things you should know
One pretty big caveat: if you need heavy-duty oil control, and/or prefer flat matte finishes, you may want to mix in something like MAC Blot with the face powder, or use an oil-control foundation, because while the powder that comes with the kit keeps the shine on my dry areas under wraps, it gives up the ghost on the oiliest areas of my forehead after 2-3 hours. I’m not too upset because I actually like a dewy finish when I wear this, but if you don’t, it’s something to consider.
Also, since this kit’s colors lean warm, it may not be ideal for super cool skin tones. That, and the colors may not register their best on darker divas.
Who might love it?
Since Flawless costs a small fortune, you want to make sure it fits you like a glove. Do you only need a little help with oil control? Do you have warm-toned light or medium skin? If you answered yes twice, it might be a good fit. Absolutely, it’s crazy expensive, but you do get four flexible products you could wear daily for different looks. I wouldn’t be surprised if you hit pan on all four pieces in the kit. They’re that wearable.
PRICE: $95 (!)

MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A-
I found Alaska!
Last night I finished John Green’s Looking for Alaska, and I’m happy to report that I loved it.
It was refreshing to read a young adult novel that didn’t feature vampires, battles to the death, zombies or love triangles (although I like those too, haha!). It’s bittersweet and beautifully written. Definitely add it to your reading list.
And now the fun part! — finding a new book to read on the plane tomorrow. Here are the books you recommended to me last week. I’m gonna pick one from here…
- The Cutting Season, by Attica Locke, recommended by LC
- The Ocean at the End of the Lane, by Neil Gaiman, recommended by Jacque
- Before I Go to Sleep, by S.J. Watson, recommended by Angel L
- How to Talk to a Widower, by Jonathan Tropper, also recommended by Angel L
- This Is Where I Leave You, by Jonathan Tropper, another rec from Angel
I can’t decide. I’ll probably just close my eyes and pick one.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

This looks stunning on you! I’m torn, because I really don’t need any of those items on their own, but as a set it just seems so perfect.

It looks really good, but not the fit for me I think.

Reading Ocean at the End of the Lane now! Just started it last week. It was recommended to me as well, but admittedly I did want to get it for the book cover alone (I’m a cover designer myself). I’m always judging books by their covers and this one is gorgeous. It’s a good read so far too!

Have you read The Cuckoo’s Calling? I give it an A+!

I LOVE LMdB! I haven’t seen many reviews on this product, and I’ve glossed over it in the past. But maaan, do I want it now. You look absolutely stunning, Karen! 🙂

Oh, and I’m so glad you liked Looking for Alaska! It’s my favorite John Green by far. If you’re still looking for more book recs, I suggest “Mr Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore” by Robin Sloan though “This is Where I Leave You” is a good one.

Ii’m reading Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto, It’s quite something! But now I’m really after IT by Alexa Chung (not sure that should be called “literature” though) 😛

I’ve never heard about this book, must look it up (anything about Alaska gets my year tingling, man I love the place).
Have you tried The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall-Smith? I really love this slim volumes for travel. Not overly taxing and fun, AND you learn some fascinating bits of practical info. The Philosophy Club series is also good.
LMdB will continue to be a wish list for now. For when I win some kind of a lottery.

Looking so cute and gorge, and dare I say indeed younger, in that photo where you hold the mirror! This is going on my wish list.

The shades do look like they’d work for a lot of complexions! I wish the oil control was better though.

I love your top too, Karen! Where is it from?

You look so radiant Karen! The blush almost looks like a dupe for Nar’s Orgasm blush. I heard that the quality of these products was fab, so I’d like to try something from the brand but I’m not sure what? Hmmm… 🙂
