Today I thought, “Why don’t I review this new holiday body care collection from Laura Mercier?” not because it immediately struck me as one of the most eye-catching sets I’ve ever seen, but because, yeah, I’m wearing some crazy-@ss makeup right now (I look like a brown Baby Jane!) for testing purposes (one eye is darker than the other…), and I wasn’t ready to take pics yet. 🙂
Enter Laura Mercier’s new $60 Soufflé Body Crème Sampler Collection! — which is actually my favorite thing in my bathroom right now.
Interestingly, my bathroom has been smelling a lot like my kitchen lately…
Wait — that sentence is just not going anywhere good, LOL!
Ha! But seriously, I think that Pumpkin Body Butter from Trader Joe’s set off a food-scented chain reaction in my bathroom, because lately I haven’t wanted anything to do with any moisturizers or body products that don’t smell abso-frickin’-lutey delicious.
The set includes four scents, which I’ve been calling “flavors,” even though they’re inedible, because dayum, Gina! — if they were, I’d be spreading them on toast.
I don’t know about you, but I like smelling like a walking bakery. I want people who pass me on the street to think, “Why do I want to bite that girl’s arm?!”
(Yes, I admit it. I’ve been watching and reading too many zombie stories…)
Really, though, what I want are lotions that make me feel warm and cozy, like I’ve been baking magically delicious treats in the kitchen.
Someone else’s kitchen, I mean, because mine hasn’t seen a lot of baking lately. Just meals of questionable nutritional content. But imagine a cozy kitchen where someone’s baking holiday cookies. Like, hella cookies. So many cookies that all of your splurge points from here till next Tuesday are completely obliterated.
With the collection, you get four 4-ounce body creams, each one with a different scent, and if you’re going to get into these, you should like food fragrances with warmer notes like vanilla and amber.
There are no florals or light aromas here. The four scents are kind of heavy, but I like that more this time of year.
Now, even though I like these fragrances, that wouldn’t mean a thing if these weren’t also moisturizing, which they are, thank goodness, because my skin needs a lot of moisture in fall and winter. I’m not even going to deal with body creams, no matter how good they smell, unless they’re extremely moisturizing, like these are, thanks to ingredients like shea butter and macadamia nut oil.
I also love the fluffy consistency because it doesn’t take forever and a day to work into my skin. I apply a layer of one of these all over my body after my morning shower (even on my dry-@ss Fred Flintstone feet).
The one I’m wearing today is Ambre Vanillé, with — you guessed it — warm, cozy notes of amber and vanilla. I think it goes well with the perfumes I’ve been wearing lately, Dolce & Gabbana Intense, and Estee Lauder’s Modern Muse.
And then there’s Fresh Fig, which I think also smells amazing. You know how when you walk into an Anthropologie store, and it always smells so inviting because they’re always burning fancy, expensive candles? Well, Fresh Fig smells just like that to me. Makes me want to read and sip tea in bed all day.
And I can’t forget about Crème de Pistache, the pistachio scent. Hello, pistachio ice cream! Oh, I can’t even think about this one without food ecstasy making my eyes roll back in my head…
The last one here, Coconut Milk Souffle, is the sweetest of the bunch, and it reminds me of sweet lattes with almond milk and fresh sugar cookies.
All four of the scents linger on my skin all day long…
Being just 4-ounce jars, they’re also pretty portable, and the jars are lightweight plastic (but don’t seem cheap), so they can jostle around in your luggage without shattering.
I’ve been displaying mine on the top shelf of my bathroom cabinet because I think they’re pretty. Kind of old-timey, like something from an apothecary’s shop in a small, quaint town.
PRICE: $60 (which works out to $15 per 4-ounce jar)
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Laura Mercier counters and online

The hand cream version of this set is already on my Christmas Wish List. Now I might have to add this…

The coconut milk souffle sounds great.

I’m suddenly craving cookies and I wonder why…lol! The Coconut version sounds like heaven to me, I really do have a weak spot for coconut. For some reason I always forget about the fact that LM does some great creams and body lotions like these. I guess it’s because I’m always distracted by the make-up? ^^

Wow, those must smell delicious. I want all of them!

I LOVE the Creme de Pistache. I got the full size body butter as a free gift a couple of months ago at the Laura Mercier counter in Nordstrom and was hooked. Just bought the hand cream set to try out the other ones (plus my mom loves the almond coconut milk).
