MAC Casual Colour in Keep in Casual
Casual Fridays? Pish-tosh! I vote we do Casual Mondays and Tuesdays instead. 🙂
Excuse me while I put my feet up before we chat, and feel free to let down your hair. This is an informal makeup event — a very casual affair hosted by the eight new limited edition MAC Casual Colours ($20 each).
Like stretchy pants, and conversations with friends you’ve known for years, these multi-purpose lip and cheek creams are verrry comfy.
Perhaps it’s no surprise that some of them are also a little lazy when it comes to color. The differences between a few of them — Have a Lovely Day, Keep It Loose, Lazy Sunday and Relaxation — are somewhat lost on my pigmented lips and NC42 skin. With those few, lighter lasses should have better luck discerning the subtle differences between the colors.

As for wear time, it’s not bad. I get from 3-4 hours on both my lips and cheeks.
Getting to know the MAC Casual Colours
- All eight limited edition shades are neither scented nor flavored.
- I wouldn’t call them drying…but they could stand to be a little more moisturizing.
- They’re easy to apply with fingers on both lips and cheeks.
- I’d characterize the finish as somewhere between a matte and a soft sheen.
- I think they look particularly fetching on bare skin or atop tinted moisturizer, but they can look a little patchy when worn with full-coverage products like liquid and stick foundation.
PRICE: $20 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at maccosmetics.com and coming June 7 to North American MAC counters and stores; internationally, later this month
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Hope your day went well. Mine seemed to fly by, maybe because I was trying out a new time management thing with my iPhone that I heard about last weekend.
Basically, it’s like what I do for Tabs, nagging reminding him throughout the day about his different appointments and tasks, except it involves using the Reminders feature on the phone. The reminders pop up to tell me exactly when I should be starting and finishing things.
2:35PM: STOP researching ways to manufacture your very own iPhone hard case.
The truth is, I need the help when it comes to time management, because I tend to dilly dally if left to my own devices…unless they start with an ‘i’, as in iPhone. LOL!
Hopefully the incessant chirping from my phone helps to keep me on track. 🙂
Fingers crossed.
What do you do to stay on task? Do you ever use a timer, or can you recommend any productivity apps?
Marilyn says
I recommend the “errands” app for iPhone – it is a great to-do list system with reminders, sub-lists etc. It’s powerful & it’s free! It keeps me on track!
Karen says
Hi Marilyn,
Thanks for the recommendation. I’m going to look into that app today!
dani@callitbeauty says
I’m actually early excited for this collection! I have got to get my hands on Keep It Casual, Out For Fun, and Weekend Getaway!
Karen says
Hi Dani,
Sweet! Let me know if you like these.
musical says
Can you even look beyond “Our for Fun” ;).
Karen says
LOL, Musical!
Tracy says
I need that app! i am so lousy at time managing. I’ll be doing something and then all of a sudden HOURS have flown by. Going to look for something like that now so thanks for the idea.
I don’t know about these, I think there are so many better cream cheek products out there. Maybe I’ll get one to try out though!
Karen says
Hi Tracy,
Me too! I wish I had natural time management skills. It’s always such a struggle.
If you every learn of any new tips/techniques that help you please let me know. 🙂
Advah says
If I really need to get sthg done, I like the Pomodoro technique (think that’s how you spell it): set a timer for 25mins, during which you WORK, then break for 5 mins (real break, ie away from the computer, wee walk), then 25mins work, then 5 mins break… It works really well!
Karen says
Hi Advah,
Thanks for sharing that technique! I use a timer sometimes too, but I haven’t thought of breaking up the time like that. I’m going to try it today. 🙂
Advah says
Let me know how it goes! 🙂
Sunny @ Mostly Sunny says
I WANT THAT IPHONE COVER (and I don’t even have an iPhone yet! I’m sure I’ll cave in at some point though)!!!
3-4 hours on my lips would be fine, but on my cheeks? I’ll stick to my Cremeblend blush in that case. The only thing I could be bothered to touch up is my lipstick/gloss and that’s all!
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
Cremeblends are cool. I like ’em too!
Nina says
Is there no color that doesnt look awesome on you? Answer – there isnt! 🙂
Karen says
Hi Nina,
Aw, aren’t you sweet? 🙂 I do have to say I think I look kinda funky in the crazier colors, like teal lipstick LOL!
Anywho, Tabs is currently on sitting on my lap making biscuits and he says hello. I’ll have him make a few for ya. 😀
Nina says
Awww – there is nothing better than a kitty purring and baking, no? 🙂
PS – you rocked that teal lippie! 😛
Joyce says
I’m OCD and neurotic. I wish they packaged them in a tube so that it’ll be more sanitary, but I love Keep It Casual. Not sure if I’m getting it or not. Gotta check it out in store. =)
Karen says
Hi Joyce,
That’s a pretty color. Hope you like it when you see it in person.
Gina says
One tip I learned was to scoop a bit of product out with a metal cosmetic spatula, put it on the back of your hand, and apply from there. That way, you don’t get any nastiness from your fingers all over the cream product!
Emi at Project Swatch says
Out for Fun is definitely on my wishlist – so pretty!
Karen says
Hi Emi,
I think that’s my fave color out of the bunch.
Happy Tuesday!
Kim says
I think I’m naturally pretty good with time management and can’t remember ever missing a deadline (of course, now that I say that, I’ll miss 17 this week). 🙂 Since I had the boys and my brain dropped out, I do have to write a lot more down. I used to have a mind like a steel trap; now, it’s more like a sieve. HAHA!
Your stretchy pants comment made me laugh. There was some guy who tweeted to a radio station this AM that bikinis, like yoga pants, were a privilege – not a right. I had to laugh since the station is in Montreal. Home to men who wear speedos (and socks with their sandals). Dang! 🙂
Trisha says
Those are a lot more pigmented that I expected. I think I’d use them more for cheeks than lips, though. Most days, my lips go nude.
Perilously Pale says
Those shades are so purrty!
Toya says
You have no idea how much money you save me Karen (or….cost me, depending! :P) – I’m also an NC42 so anytime a collection comes out I check to see how it looks on you first! Sometimes shades that I LOVE just won’t show up for me no matter how hard I try LOL. I suspected that the shades you mentioned would be those kinds of non-shades on me and seems I was right. Which shade is your fave??
Angel says
Ohhh I think I need to get my hands on Out for Fun! Such a gorgeous colour!
Becca @ The Beauty Sample says
I REALLY need to try out that time management tip. I have the same problem, Karen! I work on my blog on a computer (obviously) and just find it SO darn easy to get sidetracked with reading beauty blogs (this is the main one), online shopping, reading the news, etc. Before I know it, it’s 8 at night and I haven’t eaten all day and I’m late to meet my boyfriend! It’s gotten bad…lol
Joanna says
Love Evening stroll very pigmented! A product that can be used in multiple ways is a plus for me.
corallista says
Keep it Casual and Out for Fun are on my list!
Genevieve says
Hey Karen!
I bought Out For Fun and it looks amazeballs on my skintone!
I am an Asian with olive skintone, and the peachy tone gives my face a great natural glow.
I never leave home without this little pot, so I’m gonna start stocking up on it!
