What can I say? Sparkly things give me grabby hands. 🙂
Unfortunately, I also feel like some flashy finishes look straight-up criminal on my eyelids… I’m all for wearing what you want, when you want, but I’m kind of at that stage in my makeup journey when super shimmery frosts, tempting as they are, highlight my fine lines a little more than I’d like.
That said, I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to say, “So long forever, sparkle and gloss! I’m living a full-time matte life.” I think I’ll always like a little glitz.
Enter the Jouer Long-Wear Creme Mousse Eyeshadows ($30 each), which came out a little earlier this fall. If you have fine lines like I do, and you crave shimmer like the Gilmore Girls crave coffee, these easy-to-use cream shadows got your back.
The crease-resistant formula keeps my fine lines from hogging the spotlight for upwards of nine hours when I use it with my trusty NARS Pro Prime. That’s exactly what happened last Saturday when I wore the plummy shade, Dusk.
These shadows are also supposed to be good for your skin, too. The formula contains marine botanical antioxidants, which, according to Jouer, are supposed to keep your lids looking firm and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
I don’t think I use the same products consistently enough to derive those kinds of benefits, and I don’t detect any skin-tastic differences in this case, but hey, man! — I’ll take all the help I can get. 🙂
New to mousse eyeshadows? Don’t fret, these are epically easy to use. They have a soft, spongy texture very similar to the Chanel Illusion d’Ombres, and they glide across skin like Tabs slides across smooth kitchen tiles. All you have to do is tap a little on your lids with a fingertip, and blend out the edges. Boom, done.
The six shimmery shades — soft golden Moonlight, champagne pink Starlight, plum Dusk, bronze Galaxy, golden slate Night Sky and charcoal navy Twilight — can be worn by themselves or as bases for other eyeshadows, and they’re all pretty neutral, neither leaning too warm nor cool, so most skin tones should be able to pull ’em off.
I like them all, but I’ve definitely been grabbing Dusk and Night Sky the most.
You can find them now in the permanent collection at Jouer counters and online for $30 each.

As a lover of puns, I adore the title of this.
I’ve never used anything by Jouer, these look lovely!
Karen says
Thank you for finding the title pun-ny, haha! 🙂
I’m surprised that you aren’t a Jouer girl. The vibe is kinda similar to Chanel, but it has more of a laid-back California chic to it.
How was your weekend? Did you do anything for Halloween?
My BFF directed and choreographed a musical (A Chorus Line), and opening night was on Saturday, so I did dinner and a show. On Sunday I went into SF for brunch with some friends. It was a busy weekend, but really fun!
Chelsea says
Sorry for the late reply! I love the look of Jouer, but no one around here sells it in person! I’ll have to order something sometime.
Your musical sounds super fun! I went to a friend’s house for a Halloween party, dressed up as an Autumn wood nymph. The rest of my weekend I spent circusing!

Night Sky and Galaxy look really pretty. But $30 for one pot is kinda pricey….That’s almost Chanel pricing.
Karen says
Jouer is actually pretty high-end, so they’re similarly priced to Chanel. 🙂 I’ve tried a lot of their makeup and find that they have quality comparable to the luxury brands like Hourglass, Chanel, etc.
Sunny says
OOO Night Sky and Galaxy look so promising! I’ll definitely have to look into them!
Karen says
Hi Sunny,
Definitely check out Night Sky. It should layer well with your olive, khaki and gold eyeshadows.
I hope you had a nice weekend. What did you and the kitties do?
Marisa says
Pretty!
I love the mousse texture!
Karen says
Hi Marisa,
I’m a fan of the mousse texture, too. It makes it really easy to blend — so great when you’re in a hurry.
Have you tried any other things from Jouer? I really like the lipsticks.

I’ve wanted to try Jouer products – forever! Perhaps this is where I should start.

Ooh so pretty!! I really want to try these but I’m pretty sure there’s no Jouer counter around my area. I’ve heard enough good things after this that I think ill order a few sight unseen. Love your hilarious craziness, Karen!

These are really beautiful. I like night sky and starlight the best. And I really appreciate that they listed all of the ingredients on their website. I will definitely give these a try. 😀

I am dying to try these! So pretty!
Marisa says
Hi Karen!
I wish I could say I have tried this line but I have Mirage from Chanel’s summer collection and I love the way that product applies!
Jenny says
$30 each? Yikes! But they do look so pretty. I love that they are more neutral tones- I wish more eye shadows were like this!
Kiss & Make-up says
Some of them look pretty similar, but I agree, Dusk and Night Sky are stunners!
Kim says
You know I’m with you on the love of shimmer (but at the age where it must be avoided). These look really nice, though. They’re super frosty in the swatch but have almost a matte frost on your lids. No doubt thanks to the lighting. 🙂
Fancie says
Night Sky, Twilight and Starlight are gorgeous!
Erin says
Dusk is stunning. I love one and done type shadows! I have a Pokemon feeling coming on… gotta catch ’em all!
Angela Bonanza says
That title! Amazing hahaha. Some of the shades are similar, but the finish on these shadows looks great!
Dee says
oooh love mousse anything! These look so pretty for a shimmery wash of colour. I love my chanel Mirage…I should expand that collection!
Amber says
These look absolutely gorgeous. I love a good shimmery and easy to blend cream shadow. 🙂

Hi Karen! I am new to this brand so am digging your reviews here. For beginner, what product would you recommend to try? I also notice they have a couple of valuable sets online, they seem good to me. What do you think?? Thank you!
