If all the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players…that’s a hella big stage. Should be plenty room for everyone to share the spotlight.
Oh, but before I go on, can I get a couple minutes to check my makeup? Because I don’t want to go out there with lipstick on my teeth. 🙂
And another thing, before my moment in the spotlight, 1) I hope I’m not wearing clothes that make me look like a pint-sized linebacker (a reoccurring theme in my life), and 2) I hope I am wearing makeup that mixes sassy neutrals with something bright, like the new JK Jemma Kidd On Location Palette in In the Spotlight ($25).
My wish for you: I hope you get your time to shine, and when it comes, I hope it’s doing something you care deeply for.
Jemma sprinkles a couple of fun brights into this mostly neutral palette of pieces for eyes and cheeks, and it’s all about flexibility. You can keep the look casual by incorporating a nude lip, like I’m doing in the pic above, or go for something brighter like the face shot down below.
Swatches from the left: Cream eye primer, gray eyeshadow, purple eyeshadow, taupe eyeshadow, beige highlighter, teal eyeshadow, peach blush
The palette’s sheer purple and teal give a little kick to the more staple shades in shimmery taupe and gray. You could wear them with your favorite primer, or layer them on top of the included creamy, cool-toned beige eyeshadow base.
Like most of Jemma’s palette eyeshadows (the ones I’ve tried), these benefit from a little extra TLC. Before snapping these pics, to get the colors as punchy as I wanted them, I used between three and six layers.
Anticipate some moderate fallout, too. I dealt with some beneath my eyes and on the tops of my cheeks.
What you get…
- A cream eye primer
- Gray eyeshadow
- Purple eyeshadow
- Taupe eyeshadow
- Shimmery beige highlighter
- Teal eyeshadow
- Creamy peach blush
Both of the cheek/face products, the blush and highlighter, give a radiant glow to my skin that lasts for a solid six hours (yay!), but keeping the products apart in the palette hasn’t been easy, since they’re all so close together (boo).
I like being In the Spotlight with these shades, but the cream product’s proximity to the powders in the palette and the shadows’ moderate fallout makes ’em a bit of a bear.
Still, I do like JK Jemma Kidd’s products… Might be worth taking a look at it anyway.

Hi Maggie,
It’s a romper from Anthropologie by Leifsdottir. I’ll try to post an outfit of the day with it soon… gotta shave my legs first, LOL!
How was your Thursday? Good, I hope.
Audrey says
WOW. Is that the romper from Anthropologie that you posted about a while ago? That is GORGEOUS.

Hi Audrey,
Yeah, I broke down and got it. It’s a fun little outfit, and I like that I don’t have to match pants with a shirt, LOL!

You always look so nice in those eyeshadow colors! Jealousssss. I just can’t pull off blues and am iffy with purples. And that sweatshirt is so adorable. Wonder if they have a dog lovers one too?
Karen says
Hi Liz,
I know how it is to have a hard time with certain colors. Reddish eyeshadow give me grief!
As for the sweatshirt, I think for that particular store it’s just the cat one, but I’m sure you can find one with a similar sentiment for dog ladies on etsy.

I heart Cat Vs Human, her comics are so cute! I’ve seriously forwarded or texted like half of them to my girlfriend, like “omg this is totally my/our life!” or “hehe, aren’t cats so funny!!” and she’s like “yes, babe, wonderful, another cat text…” lol. She’s more of a dog person, but me and my Daphne are converting her 🙂
Karen says
It is a hard job but somebody’s gotta do it! I’m sure Daphne is working her magic. 😉
Have you seen this one? It’s the story of my life.
