One thing Givenchy limited edition makeup releases have never been lacking is style. Whether it’s a pan of powder embossed with an intricate floral pattern or a palette with clean, understated lines, Givenchy understands the words “special” and “fancy.”
Whenever I see Givenchy on a counter or dressing table, I’m almost guaranteed to utter “oohs” and “aahs.” Just like when Alcide bares his chest on True Blood, the visuals are just too dang good. 🙂
Performance-wise, the products may hit or miss, but they are quite capable of knocking it out of the park. When it comes to their two new Les Ombres de Lune Shadow & Light Eyes palettes ($58 each) for fall, color my smokey eyes impressed.
Each of the two new face and eye palettes comes with two powder products — a darker eyeshadow for use as a shadow or liner, and a shimmery highlighting powder for the eyes, cheeks and face. I’ve been alternating between the two of them, Les Lune Mysterieuse and Les Lune Mordoree, for the past week, and both have been fantastic for giving skin a glow and creating quick smokey eyes.
Lune Mordoree palette
- A shimmery, cool-toned lemony chiffon gold
- A cool sapphire blue with black undertones and subtle shimmer
Lune Mysterieuse palette
- A frosty neutral beige
- An ebony black with a subtle shimmer
Shoot, I thought the Velvet Eyeshadows from Benefit’s Maggie and Annie kits were soft, but these powders are even softer. They’re like snuggling with silky, blue-eyed, baby ragdoll kittens (awww).
And they’re right on point when it comes to performance, too, flawlessly blending with intense pigments, but no creasing, fading or fallout to hold them back.
Givenchy, like Chanel and Dior, demands a premium for their products, so, yes, this fabulousness does come at a hefty $58 price. Hopefully, they’re still available during the next Sephora Friends and Family sale (20% off brings the price down to $46.40).
PRICE: $58 each
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Sephora stores and Sephora.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+ (expensive, but they rise to the occasion with functional, wearable colors perfect for use all year long)
Dinner of champions!
El Hub has to work late tonight, which means I’m free to eat fro-yo for dinner (YES!) and to watch Tivo’d Golden Girls reruns.
I also have to wrap a gift for my friend’s baby shower on Saturday. Hmm… I hear Target calling. I might opt for the cute gift bag/tissue paper combo instead.
In random music news, have you been hearing more Michael McDonald than usual? Or is that just me? I think something’s afoot… It seems like every time I turn on my favorite easy listening station (“Light rock, less talk”), homeboy’s mumbling something.
I swear I can’t understand a word that man says… 🙂
Enunciate, man!
Major ups if you can decode what he’s singing (without having to Google the lyrics).
Anywho, how YOU doin’?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Larie says
I always go the “cute bag/tissue paper” route! Always! I can’t wrap presents to save my life o_O
Karen says
I don’t mind wrapping them when I have time… these days it’s just so much easier to grab a cute bag! They had some really nice ones at Target for baby showers.
Emily says
I love Golden Girls…
Karen says
Me too! Which character are you like? I’m Sophia with a touch of Rose, LOL!
shontay says
I never would’ve pegged you for a Sophia, Karen! I’m scared of you. LOL I’m a Dorothy. 🙂
terry says
maybe the lighter colours could double as highlighters to justify the price?~shrug~
Karen says
They do! I mention that a few paragraphs in…
Have you ever tried Givenchy before? They have some nice eyeshadows.
Fiona says
They’re so pretty, and I love the eye look that you created. I haven’t been watching True Blood since the hiatus… Now I want to get back to it!
Karen says
Ya need to hop on that train again, girl!
Vijaya says
It looks great on you, but it’s a pass for me. I feel like I have similar shades!
Karen says
Oh, well!
Jessi says
Yay frozen yogurt for dinner! I like to mix fresh berries in with it and sometimes granola if I’m feeling adventurous 😉
And Golden Girls is the bomb (“Thank you for being a friend…”)! It used to be my favorite show when I was a little kid. And now I realize that it was highly inappropriate for me to watch at the age and wonder who let me get away with it…
Mary says
Haha, I thought I was the only one who watched Golden Girls as a kid! And the funny thing was I always watched it when my parents and I went over to their older friend’s house. The guy would give my brother and I prunes to eat as we watched the show! It’s funny/weird when I look back now.
Karen says
LOL, that’s hilarious. I know this is totally uncool, but I kinda like prunes.
Karen says
Do you have an ice cream maker? I found a recipe for homemade fro yo last night and it looks like the bomb.com. I can’t wait to try it.
And haha, when I watched the Golden Girls as a kid I missed so many of the references! Now when I watch the re-runs… they’re kinda racy, LOL!
Heidi says
Beautiful shades, but that price tag — ouch!
Thanks to you I now have It Takes Two stuck in my head….
I know what you mean about enunciating during singing. Another big offender is Michael Stipe of REM. I’m a huge megafan of their music, but what in the world are the lyrics? Radio Free Europe, anyone?
Karen says
LOL… we actually played It Takes Two at my wedding. I have a special place in my heart for that song!
So TRUE re: Michael Stipe. What is the man saying?!?
dani@callitbeauty says
all the shades are GORGEOUS! still can’t get over the price, though… >.<
Karen says
I know! Givenchy isn’t exactly discount, le sigh.
Mia says
Loving Luna Mordoree, though Lume Mysterieuse would probably be better for me. The colors look so beautiful on you!
Karen says
Thanks, Mia. I hope you give these a try… they’re even more beautiful in person!
Sylvie says
Alcide is rather hairless for a werewolf 😀 that said, I think I drooled while watching the scene in the previous episode where Eric was in the lake and Alcide was there with Sookie to save him. Yummy!
Claire says
I noticed the mysteriously hairless werewolves… Not that I’m complaining, lol.
Karen says
Yes he is. I noticed a few years ago that the Twilight wolves were quite hairless too… maybe they all know a good waxer/threader? LOL!
artemis says
ahhhh eric 😀
gio says
The Lune Mordoree palette looks gorgeous! But ouch at the price!
Karen says
I know! That’s Givenchy for you, I guess.
honeylemongirl says
I love that Michael McDonald song!!! And I’m totally waiting for the blush that comes out with this collex, the four-square-looking one that looks like a mix of orange/pink/red. I hadn’t considered the eyeshadows before, but now that you’ve got me looking… 🙂
Karen says
Some of them are just okay, but these are great. Have you tried the Le Prisme Quartet ones? Those are my faves.

Lulle says
They both look amazing! I was really not fond of this collections promo pictures, but these palettes are calling my name! Both of them…
Karen says
Yes! They are really pretty once you start playing with them.
Nina says
grrrrr!!!! they are both so pretty, but again, its the side by side thing thats bugging the heckouttame!!!! :/
Karen says
You need one where the pans are separated. How about one of the Le Prisme Quartets?
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/falling-for-givenchy-le-prisme-eyeshadow-quartet-in-khaki-egerie/
Nina says
oh yuuussss!!!! those i want!
Kim says
I love the way they’ve put these colors in the pan. I especially like the color combo in Lune Mordoree (though the name reminds me of Lord of the Rings). It looks great on you, too. 🙂
I actually love that Michael McDonald song and it’s been ages since I’ve heard it. Also, awesome Rob Base reference in the title. 🙂
Glosslizard says
LOL! How about a red Yeaux Sauronee palette for lips? 😀
Kim says
HAHA! Totally. I think we’re on to something, here! 🙂
Karen says
Speaking of LOTR, I’ve always wanted a palette named “My Precious.”
I don’t mind the melody and beat of that song! It drives me nuts how he mumbles, though. What’s he singing about? I can’t make any words out in the first 30 seconds at all.
Kim says
That is so funny! It was on an old mixed tape that I really liked, which is why I think I still like it. Of course, now every time I hear the song I’ll be laughing – while thinking “mumble, mumble, mumble”. HAHA! And, I do agree, what I can make out of the lyrics makes very little sense. I think he has to mumble because if we understood what he was singing, we’d be like “What? That’s just a random string of words!”. 🙂
Chris25 says
I think these are nice, but I’d rather try out some palettes from their perm line. I like the ones that have little squares of eyeshadow, instead of the fancy patterns. Like little squares of fudge in a box. Great, now I want fudge!
Karen says
Ooh, I know your an eyeshadow gal — have you tried their Le Prisme quartets? They’re pricey, but excellent!
https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/product-reviews/falling-for-givenchy-le-prisme-eyeshadow-quartet-in-khaki-egerie/
Chris25 says
Bingo! Those are for me! 🙂
Elle says
Every time I think about Michael McDonald, I think about Paul Rudd’s line from “40 Year Old Virgin” (“If I hear ‘Yamo be there’ one more time, Yamo burn this place down”), so I start giggling like an idiot.
I haven’t tried anything by Givenchy other than their perfumes, which I love. I want to check out that palette with the colorful squares that look like candy…
Karen says
Does anybody know what he’s actually saying in that song? Is it about a guy named “Yah Mo”? Or is he saying “I’mmo be there”?
I’m so confused…
What Givenchy perfume is your fave? Mine is Irresistible (love the rose notes).
Elle says
Just reading that typed out made me LOLZ again. I think it’s “I’mmo be there”. Or maybe there is a guy out there named Yamo who is, in fact, always there.
My favorite is definitely Ange ou Demon Le Secret. It doesn’t last very long on me, but it is all sorts of yum when wear it (helps that the bf loves it too, but I liked it before I met him, so eh). I normally never finish my perfumes, but I just got this last year and I’m already down to a few last sprtizes.
Karen says
El Hub and I went to the farmers’ market and kept joking about how Yamo was supposed to be there.
“Did you hear from Yamo? He said he was gonna be there.”
“I dunno, I think it’s kind of rude that Yamo just shows up. I heard he wasn’t even invited!”
It went on for way too long.
Wait, is this the BF who’s fam you just met?
Rachel says
I really like those color combinations! I love how so many companies are making shadow/blush palettes little works of art! Too cute.
Also – On your main page I see you posing with a surfboard. Do you surf? Super cute board! What’s the length? I’m about to transition from a 6′ 8″ to a 6′ 2″.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
I do! I don’t get to do it as often as I like, though. I’ve tried surfing up here in Nor Cal, but it’s just too cold for me and I hate having to wear a wetsuit (makes me feel like a sausage). Last time I went was in November when I was in Hawaii visiting family.
Anywho, I’m a longboarder, and I’m not very good at it, LOL! I stand up, maybe do a turn or two to avoid crashing into people, and then I fall down.
Ruchita says
True Blood and kitties in one post – two of my favorite things!
Those eyeshadow colors are gorgeous! They are a bit expensive, but 20% off would be nice.
Karen says
Every little bit helps, right?
Funny that you mention the combo of True Blood and kitties. Last night El Hub and I got into a lengthy discussion about how Tabs would probably be a very successful vampire kitty, LOL!
Mary says
The colours are nice, but the price is wayyy too rich for my blood.
Karen says
Le sigh. I guess that’s Givency for you. If you like it you might want to wait for the Sephora F&F sale.
Glosslizard says
OMG, those kittens! *Squeeeeeee!*
Those palettes are lovely, I can’t deny! I really love the beige in Mysterieuse, but is it a crime that I hardly ever use black shadow? I just can’t say no to the ease of pencil liners! 😛
Karen says
I hear ya. But sometimes it’s fun… especially when it looks so pretty in the pan!
Cat lady moment: I am hell bent on a ragdoll but Tabs is not having it. Boo!
Christy says
This looks like a great item for my purse – such a multi-tasker! I would like to try 🙂
Rachel says
Funny, I like wearing a wetsuit. They make me feel cool, lol. Longboarding is awesome in Hawaii. We have family there, too. The waves are so consistant that you can cruise forever on a longbard. I also have family in Maine, and up there I go for a shortie because the waves are chopy, so it’s a good opportunity to work on turns, etc. Thanks for sharing!
Marian says
Those are very pretty but I can’t justify that price for 2 eyeshadows.
Jen W says
I hear Michael Mcdonald ALL the time, only because it’s a fav of my ex 🙂 I can never understand what he’s singing either.
The packaging looks so gorgeous, and the colours just fab, but given that I would need much more than those two colours to create a done look I think I’ll pass given the $$ price tag.
