If you’re an aeronautical engineer, a NASCAR driver, a lawn bowler, a professional cycler or an Olympic swimmer, friction can be a nuisance, but if you’re a body scrub, it’s essential. I am sensing some friction between the new Nuance Salma Hayek Walnut Body Scrub ($7.99) and I; unfortunately, it’s just not the right kind.
I thought that after trying and loving my last two products from the new Nuance Salma Hayek line — the Nuance Salma Hayek Cucumber & Rosewater Dual-Phase Makeup Remover ($7.99) and Salma Hayek My Secret Super Moisturizing Body Cream ($14.99) — I was bound to like the third.
Nuance says the gentle scrub, which contains moisturizing acai and passion flower seed oils, can be used every day.
I love the warm cocoa butter scent, but it’s not enough to make up for the way this stuff looks. Two words: baby poo. And the color gets all over the shower, too (I would have posted a picture, but it was a gnarly visual).
“Take it easy,” I tried to tell myself, just like these crushed walnut shells. The shells are totally taking it easy here, despite them supposedly being the abrasive muscle behind the scrub. Problem is, the grains are so fine that I barely feel them at all. It’s almost like washing with regular old body wash.
Oh, well. Ya know what they say, right? Sometimes you feel like a walnut; sometimes you don’t. 🙂
PRICE:$7.99 for an 8-oz. bottle

I’m still laughing at this. I haven’t tried any of the other products apart from her rose balm, which I freaking love. Thanks for all of the reviews on her line!
Karen says
Isn’t that balm THE BEST? I swear it’s transforming my cuticles!
How have you been? I can’t believe summer is almost over, boo. 🙁
Jessi says
Boo, I hate non-scrubby “scrubs”. Well, I’m sorta glad I don’t need EVERYTHING from the Nuance line!
Karen says
Me too! If I’m gonna get exfoliated, it better take off at least a layer of skin, LOL!
Vonvon says
A scrub is not a scrub without any grains!
Karen says
No kidding. I wanted to be exfoliated!
Heidi says
Hmmm….. gentle scrubs are great for the face, but for the body – there better be some major grit!
Karen says
Seriously. I need the crust to be sloughed off my elbows and heels at the very minimum.

Baby poop looking scrub? Uhhh…. skip.
Karen says
Yeah…

Just like a regular body wash? So none of that Salma toughness we see on TV got into this scrub.
Karen says
NADA!
Marian says
Haaaaaa…..Karen, you’re a riot!
Karen says
Happy Monday, Marian!

Oh, shower residue is a definite deal killer. If it adds to my cleaning schedule, it’s not making it in the door! 🙂
Btw, have you tried the St. Ives Purify Exfoliating Body Wash? I gave it a whirl because our store didn’t have my Collagen/Elastin fave. I’m surprised I have any skin left (but I’m a bit of an exfoliating wimp). It seems like people who like a good scrub would like this, and there’s no residue. Just thought I’d throw that out there! 🙂
Karen says
No kidding. I can’t handle anything that increases ANY time spent cleaning in the bathroom!
I haven’t tried that body wash… is it rough like their apricot scrub?
Kim says
It seems like the grains are finer than the apricot scrub and there are more of them. The base is also less creamy. It sort of reminds me of what it would be like to scrub with fine sand.
I know you didn’t bring your laptop to bed with you, but did you catch True Blood last night? Only 2 more eps. Seems like the season went by pretty fast!

i read this post in a fever induced haze and LOL’d!
Karen says
A fever-induced haze? Oh noes! Are you feeling okay?
Swatch And Learn says
Aww…sorry to hear that you didn’t go nuts over this scrub. ;P

LOL the baby poo comparison is too funny. I love products that smells of cocoa butter. I agree that a body scrub should be grainy because I won’t feel clean and fresh if it isn’t.
Molly says
Glad I know to skip this product…I like that you included the label since I didn’t bother to check any when I saw the line in cvs.
I might try a couple now that I see they promote if the product is cruelty-free & paraben-free, 2 things I look for, or rather, I prefer the product to ‘be without’.

i completely agree with this review! I love her other 4 products I have tried: Oxygen Activated Foaming Face Wash, the serum, the rosehip lipgloss, and the day sunscreen, but this one was terribly disappointing!
I’ve tried other walnut scrubs that do the job– but this one does not! have you tried the oil mist or body wash? I am considering.
Any favorites for acne?

I tried Nuance Raw Honey Color Protect Shampoo. It took all the color out of my hair! I have used many products on my color treated hair, some of which are not intended for color treated hair. I’ve never used a product that has taken all of the color out of my hair. It was unmanageable. I’m pretty sure it was just honey in a bottle. It made my hair sticky and knotted. I recommend that no one use this product ever! It’s horrible. I’ve lost all respect for Salma Hayek. I’m pissed, now I have to buy more hair dye.
